Welcome to the RTMT Place!

This board is dedicated to everything concerning Road Top Mass Transit, including what it is, how to use it, what future plans for it are, etc.  Participation is encouraged on all levels, including making suggestions, contributing to RTMT, testing new versions of RTMT, or joining the RTMT Team.  (A separate thread below has more details on this last option.)  The RTMT Place is also the place to come with all questions about RTMT.

What is RTMT?

Road Top Mass Transit is just what it says it is.  It's mass transit stations that are directly situated on a road surface, instead of one or more separate squares.  You have undoubtedly noticed that the standard bus and subway stations that come with the game are disproportionately large.  (It's no exaggeration to say that they're as big as a house!)  In contrast, RTMT stations are built to the scale of the game, and therefore can easily fit on the side of a road.  For those people who want their cities and towns to look as realistic as possible, this is extremely helpful.

Why Use RTMT Stations?

Here is a brief summary of the main advantages of using RTMT stations:

  • They look much more realistic than the standard, in-game stations.
  • They take up no additional space on the map.  This gives you more room for buildings or other costructions.  For larger roads such as avenues, even more space is saved.
  • By avoiding the use of single-square stations, you avoid ending up with various awkward-shaped zones.
  • New stations can easily be added without disturbing your existing construction.  Or, whole configurations of stations can be changed.
  • Installation options let you match your station capacities to your traffic simulator.
  • Bus, subway, and combination stations are available for streets, roads, one-way roads, avenues, and avenues containing Ground Light Rail.
  • RTMT includes GLR-in-avenue stations, with or without bus or subway stations in combination.  This gives you exceptional flexibility when designing your GLR network.
  • Matching roadside stations are also included, so that you can maintain a consistent look throughout your city.
  • Station props and textures are highly customizable, letting you choose the look you want for your city.
  • You can even develop your own station props and textures as plug-ins, for exactly the look you want.

About RTMT

The first two versions of RTMT were created by Darkmatter, Teirusu and CJMarshall (CJM).  Cogeo took up the project from here, and made extensive improvements and additions in versions 3.00 and 3.50; at this point, the current RTMT is largely his work.  The two editions of the current version 3.50 of this package (EXE and ZIP) have well over 30,000 downloads on the STEX; they were later made available here on the LEX, and you can get the EXE package (easier to install) here and the ZIP version (useful for advanced users) here.  Cogeo has branched out into other areas of SC4 development, and unfortunately no longer has time to continue working on RTMT.  I volunteered to take over the development and maintenance of this project, and he has handed it off to me.  Thus the initiation of this board, and the new developments that will be coming.  Keep an eye out here to see what we're up to, and don't hesitate to contribute or make suggestions.
