Flammability Settings for Buildings and Props

Hi all,

Could someone please help me with this?

The flammability and max fire stage properties can be set for both the building and prop exemplars.

But while it's quite obvious what they are for in buildings, what's the point of setting them in props? Some props in simcity_1.dat do have them set, some others not. The Plugin Manager does set them too.

What happens if you set flammability for a prop to a value higher than that of the building exemplar? Will the lot have a greater chance of catching fire? Also there is a property named "Prop Destroys Lot", which according to properties.xml is by default "True"; I haven't seen a simple example of a prop exempar with this property set to "False". So what will happen if you set to "False"? The prop will be burned but the lot will stay?

Also what's the case with buildings displaying no model? This is a quite common modding technique, for making "families" for ploppable lots: the building displays no model, and a set of props (prop-family) is used in its place (these props usually have the "Query as Main Building" property set to "True"). What about the fire effect ("drawing" of the flames)? Is it affected by the building's box (gray rectangle) no matter if the building actually displays a model or not, or instead it depends on the actual building model (LODShell)? In the former case it may be a good technique to make the building's Occupant Size equal to that of the props.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Nobody replied, so... tested and found! Here are the results:

- Both buildings and props with the flammability properties set can initiate a fire or ignited by a fire in a lot, building or prop located just next. Otherwise they don't catch a fire, even if the player starts a fire "disaster" him/herself.
- If the "Prop Destroys Lot" property is set to "True" (or not set all - default=true) the prop will destroy the whole lot, otherwise it will burn and disappear, until it reaches its max fire stage - unless it sets afire the lot's building or another prop (which will destroy the lot).
- The fire effect does depend on the LODshell!
- If a lot is destroyed, burnt rubble appears only on the area occupied by the main building's (gray) rectangle.
- There is a little problrem with some tree props: their fire stage is too low (1), and if set afire (say by a building or prop nearby) they will destroy the whole too early (before a fire engine can reach). As a result the lot can be burnt much earlier than the lotmaker intended.
