All I can say is... holy cow! You definitely have a knack for industry. Superb.

thundercrack83

Well, the railyard and the port look simply incredible, my friend! I love those garbage docks, especially! I've used them a few times myself. Great work!

kimcar

&apls &apls Very realistic. You did a super job . Great details too. BTW Thanks for the invitation

Like the RR layout, especially the large yard. The docks are nice too, and overall it looks like a busy port area.
Great work  &apls

Nisha, You know, I have always wandered what "Holy Cow" meant.   ???  But , thanks anyways, I think.
thundercrack83, Thanks, I'm glad you like it.  Those garbage docks by peg are awesome.  I think I use them in all my cities.  ;)
kimcar, thanks for the comment.  It means alot, because, realism is what I am going for.  As for the invite, no prob.
Ennedi, thank you also.  The peninsula wasn't planned.  It just kinda happened and when I was done I liked it, so it stayed.
tooheys, Thanks, I'm trying to make it very busy and dirty looking.  We'll see how it turns out in the next couple of updates, I think.  ;)
RickD, wecome to my humbe MD.  As for stealing, let's just say you are learning and going to use this knowledge to your own benifit. hehehe

This month I am trying do as many special things as I can think of.  Even after this update, I have lots more things up my sleeve.
So check this out.

Bridges may be classified by how the four forces of tension, compression, bending and shear are distributed through their structure. Most bridges will employ all of the principal forces to some degree, but only a few will predominate. The separation of forces may be quite clear. In a suspension or cable-stayed span, the elements in tension are distinct in shape and placement. In other cases the forces may be distributed among a large number of members, as in a truss, or not clearly discernible to a casual observer as in a box beam. Bridges can also be classified by their lineage, which is shown as the vertical axis on the diagram to the right.
Here are some examples of these types of bridges.

Arch Bridge.....Megane-bashi, the "Eyeglasses bridge"

Bascule bridge......Unknown

Brunel Truss bridge or lenticular truss......The Royal Albert Bridge, crosses the River Tamar in Saltash, viewed from Saltash railway station.

Cable stayed bridge, over the Chang Jiang (Yangtze) river at the downstream approach to the Gezhouba Dam locks.
This is a triple tower bridge with the central tower higher and supporting longer spans of the bridge.

Cantilever bridge......Forth Bridge, Firth of Forth, Edinburgh.

Cantilever spar cable-stayed bridge........Alamillo's bridge (Seville)

Clapper bridge.....Tarr Steps, Exmoor, Somerset, England.

Compression arch suspended-deck bridge..........Sydney Harbor Bridge.

Curling bridge.........????

Drawbridge.......Fort Ticonderoga, Fort Ticonderoga, Essex County, NY. Drawbridge to demilune. After 1933.

The floating walkway and public dock of the Eastbank Esplanade on the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon. The Rose Garden Arena is at the top and the Steel Bridge is to the left.

Folding bridge.......Nederlands

The top bridge is a plate girder bridge, while the bottom bridge is a concrete girder bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Lift bridge.....????

U.S. 9th Army crossing the Rhine River. Wallach. M2, steel treadway, pontoon bridge.

Rolling bascule bridge.......Pegasus Bridge.

segmental bridge on 17th Street Bridge (AIA) over the Intercoastal Waterway in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida (Under Construction)

Self-anchored suspension bridge.........San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge eastern span.

Side-spar cable-stayed bridge............ Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Simple Suspension Bridge.......Capilano Bridge, North Vancouver, British Columbia.

Step-stone bridge......Tea Garden of San Francisco's Golden Gate Park.

Stressed ribbon bridge............????

Swing bridge......????

Tied arch bridge(Bowstring bridge)..........Pittsburgh skyline daytime.jpg showing only the Fort Pitt Bridge.

Tilt bridge..........Gateshead Millenium Bridge.

Truss bridge.......Seaboard Air Line Railway. Located near the village of Willow, Florida. Abandoned.

Tubular bridge.......The Conwy Railway Bridge.

Vierendeel bridge at Grammene, Belgium.

Aqueduct.........Pont du Gard

I hope you enjoy the pictures of bridges from all over the world.

Ah, what an awesome MD!

Bridges are always fascinating. Thanks for that great overview, Rooker.
Btw where exactly in holland is that folding bridge? I'm really curious about that topsail schooner.

Ennedi

Robin, that's a fantastic collection of bridges!  &apls &apls &apls

And your choice is brilliant, some of these bridges are extremely unusual and interesting
And it is a great inspiration for both MD makers and Bridge Engineers!

The best things come into being in such way  :D

theyre nice, especially the gateshead bridge. the conwy bridge is very nice too, although they are all good.

sandokan

Wow! These bridges are really amazing! It was like a little world tour, and you showed us very interesting concepts!
Thanks for the pics.

And it's my first reply to your excellent MD. I'm stunned on how you depict the industrial areas and docks. Your approach to SC4 is very realistic (it doesn't seem to be SC4, it's like flying in helicopter over a real industrial area of some big city...)

You have great skills, Rooker... thanks for sharing it with us!

thundercrack83

Excellent update on the bridges, my friend! I learned a lot! And I think the Stoney Creek Bridge was my favorite. I can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve!

Nisha

Ohhh, what a wonderful variety of bridges. Bridges are truly marvels of engineering. I can't wait for your update.  :)
I actually have a pic of my husband on the Capilano bridge in Vancouver and he often wears his 'I survived the Capilano Bridge' shirt. :D

Holy cow... no idea what it means but I generally exclaim it when I'm surprised, pleasantly in this case. Somewhere in my mind it is connected to sacred cows but that is quite a stretch. Wikipedia enlightens further.
