hey Dustin, great pictures of Washington my friend, they're some good angles there and nice caption of the city, but a real shame for the rain and the storm. As for me, I'm a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates who was in the past at the Three River Region errr sorry, stadium.  :P
As for the LOT, good choice to take the Capital's metro sign for Marathon, I guess it goes really well with the city style who looks like Washington.
Take care,
-Arthur.

Hi Dustin!

Like Art, you offer us great photos of Washington. I'm fascinated of Washington DC, and America, beacause it's so huge!! Did you know that the "Maison Blanche" (as we call it in France) is a reproduction of a french castle? And did you know that the architect of it was a french too? And did you also know that the original color of the White House is yellow? Because there was a fire in the 18th century I believe, and they repaint the house in white. And after, they called that the White House...
So, I'm impressed by the size of the Capitol. I thought it was more little. Because the "Palais Bourbon" in France (the palace where the deputies are), is very little than that! $%Grinno$% But we've got a little land, so little buildings... ;D It's damage that you didn't see the "Blériot XI" in this museum, this is the first plane which crossed the Channel islands in 1909. We spoke about that in France on the 25th july (date of my birthday $%Grinno$%).
So, I hope you spent a good moment in Washington, and I wait for you in my french country ;D

Guillaume, you french friend; ;)

Hey Dustin,
Great pics.  It is sometimes reall cool to see pics of other cities, even if it's just to compare familiar and unfamiliar sites with your own city.  I like to see how different cities differ.  The street name is kind of funny. ::)
As for the LOT...you say small....well at 8x4 isn't small in any of my books.
Did you see my hidden message last post?  I'm guessing not.
Anyways....have a great first day at work.

nice, you had fun it sounds like, I am going to school at mercersburg academy  ;D

As part of my ongoing mission to stop being a lurker, I must post here to tell you how much I've enjoyed reading and learning from your MD.

You're city is spectacular.  The thought you put into everything, and your attention to detail is just amazing.  I love the way you've shown us what you're doing as you experiment with the Lot Editor, and it's inspired me to try to do more with it.  And you're map making tutorial helped me make my first street map for my city.

I wanted to give you a bit more information on the Portland neighborhood that inspired your diagonal section (did you ever come up with a name for it?).  I live in a suburb of Portland, and used to live 2 blocks from that neighborhood.

The neighborhood itself is called Ladd's Addition, and, according to wikipedia, "The neighborhood is known in Portland for its diagonal street pattern, which contrasts markedly with the regular grid of the surrounding areas. This unconventional street layout can be disorienting to drivers."  I can vouch for that!  It can be disorienting to walkers as well.  It's a great little neighborhood, with rose gardens (Portland is the Rose City after all) in the squares.  You can learn more about it here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladd%27s_Addition

Thanks for your great MD, and I look forward to future developments.

That is a nice Metro sign. I hope you release it, as it brings memories of when I visited Washington... (I used the metro quite a lot).

bat

Nice work on that sign there!
And looking forward to more...

Looks like you had a great trip to D.C., Dustin.  Wondering how we wound up with Gagarin's space suit.

I've been following this MD for quite a while now, and have only just gotten around to commenting...!

Some great pictures of DC there. The Metro posts will certainly fit in nicely with Marathon's stations. :)

calibanX

That was a great presentation of your pics from D.C. Very entertaining I must say. I'm looking forward to seeing your inspiration turn up in Marathon.

Take care.

Arthur (art128): Thank you so much, Arthur!

Guillaume (Sciurus): Hello, my friend! Thanks for the so much wonderful information! I learned a lot that I didn't know before! I hope to see you here again soon, Guillaume! Take care!

Robin (rooker1): Hi, Robin! I'm glad you liked the pictures from Washington, my friend! It was a great trip, minus the heat, of course. It's always fantastic to have you hear, my friend! Hope all is well!

Ryan (carkid1998): Thank you, Ryan, for such great comments!

Alex (Driftmaster07): Thanks, Alex!

kimcar: Thank you so much, my friend!

rdrdrdrd: Thanks! Good luck at the Mercersburg Academy, too—I've been around that area on my travels down Interstate 81. It's a nice area!

hooha47: Hello! Welcome to Marathon, my friend! I'm so glad you chose here to ease out of lurking...or should I say "bust out" with all the fantastic information you gave us! Thank you very much for that, it makes using that area so much better, knowing the background behind it. I hope that you'll come visit again here soon! You're always welcome!

citycapitalizer: Thanks! The DC Metro Signs are not mine though, they were made by scipio and can be found over on the STEX. Hope that helps!

bat: Thank you, my friend!

David (dedgren): Hi, David! You got 1950, eh? It doesn't matter what number you get here, it's always great to have you! I was a bit curious about how we got Yuri Gagarin's suit, as well. I guess diplomacy really does go a long way! Take care, my friend, and don't be a stranger!

Albus of Garaway: Hello! Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting—it's always great when we have newcomers! Hope to see you again soon!

Geoff (calibanX): Thank you, Geoff! I'm glad you enjoyed the pictures, my friend!

Marius (M4346): Hi, M! I did have a great time. Washington is such a very unique city and I hadn't been there for quite a while, so it was great to see things again. I'd like to get back when I have more time to spend there...and when it's not so hot! Take care, my friend!

Luke (Luke09): Thank you so much, Luke!

Alex (Driftmaster07): Sorry to hear that you're having some computer troubles, Alex! But don't worry, my friend—Marathon will be here when you get back! We'll miss you here, and await your return! Good luck!

Well, the new job is going quite well for me in the first three days! We've been doing a lot of training so far, and I've learned a lot that not only did I not know before, but also will be very helpful in trying to help the kids that I'll be working with. Overall, I'm just taking things one day at a time!

Back to Marathon, though...the real reason we're here! I've been slowly working with our diagonal park area (thanks to such a great and informative post by our new friend hooha47)!

Here's where we are now...

The idea that I am working with is that on the north end of the park area, following the split Commonwealth Avenue, there will be the central commercial-like area as shown so far. On the southern end, it will transition from commercial-like areas as it is now into more residential as we move south towards the edge of tile and beyond. There is still a lot of work to be done, but as a concept, I think (hope!) it will work well.

Also, as you can see, there's another square—a diamond, actually!—to the northeast of the park area. I'm not sure where I'll go with that yet, but I like the network with it in there!

Finally...

...we'll be there soon! Thanks for all the support, my friends!

In a bit!
