Well, this is a long overdue comment on a well-deserved promotion.  I've just browsed back several pages of this MD (to where I left off earlier in the summer) and I'm very impressed with everything you've built in your cities and shared with us.  Great job!
You're telling me I get to be home for more than 12 months?

Snaper

I am sorry Travis, I thought of having left a comment at the time of my last passage over your MD  &ops

Update time...

@bat, thanks!

@Strechnitz, thanks! And yes, they're certainly called teasers for a reason...  ;)

@meinhosen, thank you! Good to see you're still around.  :)

@Snaper, thanks! No worries, sometimes, my MD is easy to miss. :P

@SA, Thank you!  :)

We'll get started near where we left off last update, in the southern part of the suburban city Mortonville. This will be a 2 or 3 part update,
so there's much more to come. We'll have a look at some residential areas today, and a nearby large cemetery...

The southern border of Mortonville- across it is the town of Cranberry Center, which we saw last update...

A mid to low wealth neighborhood. Cul-de-sacs are very common in this part of the country...

Oops, this is almost the same as the previous pic- I really need to pay more attention when taking pictures...

Another angle...

A slightly newer neighborhood, with a small pond visible...

Even more tree-lined streets...

A look at the entrance of the Phillipsburg County Cemetery...

A small lake in the middle of the cemetery...

A close-up...

A Veterans Memorial on a hilltop...

Another close-up...

Paths wind their way through the cemetery...

A quiet night...

The north end of the cemetery...

Another leafy neighborhood...

An overview...

That's all for now- region shots will come next update. Speaking of which, we'll get to see some suburban offices and shopping centers,
so stay tuned!

Later.

Fantastic cemetery, Travis! Also great looking residential areas near it!

rooker1

Super work on the cemetery.  Very big and yet still very realistic.  I like it.

A much different approach than normal to building that cemetery - its pure hugeness is rather blinding in scope.

Really nice suburbia too... reminds me that I've spent too much time in SC4 foresting rural areas and need to get back  to the old suburban and small-town sprawl soon.  School starts on the 27th, though...and things look rather serious this year.

Whatever.  Excellent update as always here.

Nooo, PP, you had to bring up school next week! :(   I still have to read a 245 page book :angrymore:

Anyways, how are you so good Travis?  I mean, this stuff is amazing

urban

Another great Cemetary, but I have to say I don't like the fall trees, but that's a matter of taste I guess.
Anyway, I love your work with the dense (green) trees as well.

probably the best tropical forests Pat Riot

emilin

That's a fantastic cemetary! The sheer size of it makes it look very realistic, but the layout and compostion makes it even better. &apls

It's time for an update...

@Dustin, thanks, my friend!  :)

@Pat, as always, thanks Pat.  ;D

@bat, thanks bat!

@Aaron, Thank you! Indeed, I probably went overboard on the size of that cemetery, but I got my inspiration from Arlington National Cemetery, which goes on for miles and miles. (I think, it sure seemed that way when I was there. ::) ) As for school, I just started High School a week ago; doesn't actually seem that bad- yet.  :P

Anyway, thanks for dropping by.

@Sean, wow, thanks! Actually, I guess it's the benefit of having played this game for a long time- and custom content and knowing how to put it to use is a big factor, in my opinion. Anyway, thanks for visiting, and good luck on that book.  ;)

@David, Thank you! I don't blame you for not liking the fall trees- they don't have too many in the tropics.  $%Grinno$%

@Emil, Thank you too! Indeed, I found it interesting trying to find a balance between the two.  :)

On to the update...

Today we'll look at some more of that city- shopping centers, office parks, even a local mall.

For once, we'll start with an overview...

This is Riverside Drive/SR-72 at the intersection with Kimball Rd...

Moving south, we see a church right off Riverside Dr, nearby is the Midlands Railroad...

Now moving northward on the railroad, we can see the entrance to Mortonville Station at the top...

Another angle...

To the west a bit, we see Kimball High School and its campus...

A close-up on the football field. *Note* Those football fields were made by Chris Adams, who has asked me to prepare them for release.
Thus, they are not yet available, but they could be sometime in the near future...

A look at Mortonville Station, with two trains pulling in from opposite directions...

Moving east along Kimball Rd, we see the Mortonville Mall. It is the smaller of two malls in Phillipsburg County...

A supermarket and a strip mall...

Continuing east, we see an office building and a radio tower. The interchange between SR-72 and I-18 is partly visible in the upper right...

A night shot...

From left to right: Best Western Hotel; Mortonville City Hall; Mortonville Medical & Fire Depts.

Another angle. At the lower left you see the I-18 tunnel, which connects to Newburn on the opposite side of the river...

A quiet night in the neighborhood...

The bridge landing of Kimball Rd, now 2-lanes, as it crosses the San Maureen River, which joins the Flag River a short distance downstream...

That does it for today, folks. I have a special update planned for September 3rd, which, if you didn't already know, is the six-month anniversary of this MD. I might see you before then, but I'm not spilling the beans about what I have planned just yet. It's up to you to speculate.  ;D

Later.

thundercrack83

Outstanding update, Travis! I love the football and baseball fields at the school. I can't wait until they're released! Riverside Drive looks fantastic, too! Can't wait to see more!

Ennedi

I missed the previous update and I must say the cemetery is really impressive

Excellent update, I especially like the first picture (general composition and feeling), and the seashore is perfect!  &apls
Also baseball fields and stadium are great!
It's a great pleasure to visit your MD :)

As for school, I just started High School a week ago; doesn't actually seem that bad- yet.  :P

Are you a freshman?

If you are, don't stress about all the crap they say freshmen get in high school.  For the most part, it's only the teachers who make freshman's lives hell.  I had an astronomy teacher in my junior year that was like that and it screwed up my freshman friend's chances of doing well in that class...

Anyway... great great great representations of Mid-Atlantic suburbia here; it sort of represents what I saw when I drove down I-95 from Rhode Island to North Carolina four times and what I saw from the air when I flew into Washington-Dulles in June.  It's just that balance between excessive sprawl like there is in the South and Yankee compactness of the North.

There's no question that those fields should be released in the near future - they're infinitely more realistic than the Maxis ones and are in a far more realistic scale than most other ones I've seen on the Net.

Travis

In a moment of absent-mindness, I forgot the updated region shot. While I'm here, guess I'll do the replies too...

@Dustin, Thanks! Indeed, when those football fields are released, they'll be a hit.  :)

@Adam, thank you! Especially glad you like that river shore, it wasn't easy to make. Come to think of it, nothing is easy to make anymore...  $%Grinno$% Thanks for dropping by, my friend.  :)

@Aaron, indeed, I'm a freshman.  :-[ Actually- neither teachers nor students have been any problem to me; as a matter of fact my teachers are
just as nice as my middle school teachers, with one exception, of course.  &sly I do have high hopes for this year, though.

Anyway, I did the best I could at not letting any Florida elements slip into my building style- I been staying down here for almost a year.
I try to base it on New York/Philadelphia area sprawl, though I'm not sure how accurate I was. I'm actually toying with the idea of a Jersey Shore
loose re-creation, although I don't know if there's enough BAT's available for it to be feasible. Whatever I decide, that's way down the line.
I do hope to get those football fields released soon- the pack will include 5x3, no stands, 5x4, with stands, 6x4 (real size) w/o stands, 6x5 w/stands,
two versions with a track, and a small stadium that will be released separately. Oh, and thanks for putting my MD in your signature, right up
there with two of my three favorite MD's; the other being yours.  ;)
Anyhow, thanks for visiting.

@Everyone, Here's the promised region view, as of today. If you notice, I've begun fine terraforming of the region- something I initially skipped because of my hurry to begin developing the region.

Remember to mark September 3rd on your calendar- you don't want to miss this one, the 6th Month Anniversary Special. ()stsfd()

Lets try to push this over to a new page if we can; I don't think we want 100 or so images on the same page...

;)

Later.

rooker1

Very nice region shot.  100 images....wow, I can't wait for this.  6th month anniv.  sounds very interesting.
