Tiny scratches preventing me from installing game.

Guy, I was installing the game into my new computer when it said that it couldn't get ep1.dat from the media. I then took disc 2 out and noticed it had for small dot like scratches on it.


Is there a way to fix this?

i'd clean off the disc. There are some retailers (many movie-rental places) that have disc-cleaning machines, that you can use for a small fee. I'd try that.

BTW, if you get it to work, i'd suggest making an image of the disc then running that instead. No disc needed.

Hey David I think you would be better off just going to Wal*Mart and buying a new CD... I think the cost is around at the most $ 15.00...

what's odd is I can still play the game on my laptop.


they both have Vista on them, if that means anything.

why don't you try re-installing on the laptop that works, or a different computer. If it works its a computer problem.

Copy the install folder from the laptop to the main computer over the network(or via a USB-stick of sufficient size). Sc4 doesn't need to be installed, its possible to run from the "Sim City 4.exe" in the "~/Sim City 4/Apps/" folder.

However if the disk is broken you will want a replacement, I do believe you can request one from EA, but it might just be a hassle. It's probably easier to go down to the local store and buy a deluxe-copy. There cheap now.

It can run on your laptop because the scratches are not located where the game is looking for the protection.
