UPDATE 85 G

"Ten Rocks"

Friday, June 23rd, 1967, John arrived early at the office again. Two days have passed since scientists, historians, the army, an University team from Lakestead, the National Television and many others, almost everyone around, have been around the rocks for the whole afternoon and evening, studying, filming and almost turning over the Ten Rocks site in Ganoga. This morning at 10 AM,  John has an appointment with a commissioner from the Federal Administration Office in Lakestead in his office. He wants to be prepared since the comissioner will present the new plan for the Wimmer road to the coast through the dark forest and also give him the latest findings about the Ten Rocks. It only took 24 hours for the new plan to make, something Gabber would have never dreamed of.

Mike arrived a couple minutes later and both were waiting with a coffee in the meeting room at Gabber's office in downtown Access Center. Mike closed the open windows to avoid the sound of the big constructionsite nearby disturbing their discussion with the officials.

85.12

Three people arrived at the time exact of the appointment and all five sat down at the big round office table lightened by the morning sun.
<<"Mr Gabber", the darkblue suited official started," I can imagine that you are surprised to hear that new the plan for the Road to the coast is already made, but we would like to make it a priority for the road to be finished by the end of the year as we have planned before. Now you know that it is very important for us to finish the road before Christmas. The find of these ten rocks surely has disturbed the works and plans a little, I can imagine, but I hope that you will continue as soon as possible without any further delay."
" Oh, surprised I surely am, I thought that it would take at least a month, so I have re-positioned all my workers. Never thought that the goverment would actually be capable of hurrying things." Gabber said with a sarcastic smile. John doesn't like officials and folks that wear ties all the time. We know this from an earlier incident.
The man went through his papers in his document on the table looking for the right page which he handed over to John.
" This is the official demand and order for the detour and here are the plans." And the representive in the darkblue suit handed over some small pages to Gabber.

85.13

Mike and John looked at each other, then looked at this small page. John not being sure what is going on here, asks: "That's it? I mean, that is the whole new plan for the road? Those two inches on paper??"
"Yes Mr Gabber, the road will be tossed over for 25 yards only and a length of 180 yards, continuing only for the length of these rocks and come back to its original path." The Transportation department has decided not to alter the route too much since nothing really important was found at the site."
"And the rocks? These rocks aren't important?" Mike added.
"Well, the rocks will stay as they are, they will be fenced in a little just to keep off the curious and the commission of Simland's history will take it from there. I'm not in the position to say or not to say if they are important or not. Besides, I have not seen them yet."
"You mean to tell me that they aren't going to cut off the whole area like they did in West River?" Mike had to add.
"What is in West River?" another of the three official visitors in the black suit asked with a seemingly serious face. Mike didn't like that fellow as soon as he opened his mouth and John was able to read it on his face instantly. John grabbed Mike by the arm and gave him his serious and authority look of his, meaning to just shut up!
"Well, the porolium and those skullrocks ruins , they surely seem to be important, the whole place is fenced in and guarded." now Mike was wondering how come that the first site became a real forteresse and this site only of small interest, while swallowing his *need to *kill* that fellow*.
The blacksuited official, older of age than the others explained very shortly why the army is there.
"The army has cut off the area because it was decided that a permanent base would be very practical at this site, not interfering with the artifacts of the historical find. The Porolium is under control also. That the army stayed there is just a matter of coincidence"
"The ten rocks are a great and a very important find, or that is what the historians and scientists say sofar," the first official in the blue suit cut in", but of no interest to the army nor the government itself. What is important is that the historical site is preserved and protected from the public and that the Wimmer road to the coast will be finished by December 31st this year at the latest." A silent 10 seconds of looking at each other over the round table, probably to see their facial reactions, then he continued, "It will probably be classified as an official historical site, just the same as the ruins of the city that Mr Gabber's son found near the Mighty Rive, and then it will be studied by the commission of Simland's history and origins."
"Wait a minute, what city ruins you are talking about?," John jumped in being very confused and wondering how come that they knew about his city in the Ganoga Wilderness.
"Please let me present myself Mr gabber", the young man in the darkgrey suit on the windowside jumped into the conversation. " My name is Willard Deforge, I am from the Commision of Simland's History. We have seen the pictures that we seized from the Access Tribune that were brought there by your son yesterday to be published in tomorrow's edition, but fortunetly we arrived in time, not to alarm the population with another mystery that they will start like the West River Story, nor to begin again unneccessary rumours before we can explain it in better and more truthfully means. You must have heard it from your son by now?" he said while looking directly at John and waiting for an answer.
Mike really looked worried by now and his nervosity could be felt while he looked at John who said: "I haven't seen my son since two days, he's supposed to be home in Bluebay while I have been at my cottage in Grasslake for the whole week. How did you find out that he had taken some pictures of some old ruins during his trip through the wilderness".
"We already knew about the ruins for a few years, it's just that your son and his group rediscovered it for the second time and since it is not really proofed or cleared up yet what it actually is and means to the population, the government would like to keep it quiet until the sites are studied and classified as historical finds. We wait until an access road will be built. Don't worry, and as we told your son, the credit of discovering the ruins will go entirely to your son's group once it is officially announced.">>

John and Mike were left speechless. The converstation continued with several more questions from John and Mike for the rest of the morning, but only half of them were clearly explained. Before the officials left, the man in the darkblue suit handed over another document with a demand to build another road around the Stoke mountains to access the ruins in Stoke Creek, which John has. Once they left, Mike, the secretary and John talked the matter over a lunch at Barby's Biergarten in Access and of course including a few cold beers to rinse the events of the morning.

85.14

So, we will leave John and Mike figure out and digest what they just learned from the offcials from the Lakestead Administration Office. Meanwhile we will have a look at the new revised plan of the wimmer road to the coast. As we can see, changes are minor, leaving the ten rocks site just on the side of the road.
85.15

Also here is the plan for the new road that will lead to the ruins of the old city that the Ganoga Boys discovered, another road contract for Gabber Inc. John decided that it will be his son Charly, now almost 18 years old, that will help Mike to plan, execute it and supervise the project. Charly took of a few months off from his studies before going to the Lakestead University in September.

Here is a picture of the "downtown" Access Center as it is today.

That's it for this episode of the Ten Rocks.

I have decided to take a break now. Too many things in real life, a lot of work, beautiful weather and the MFP1 (Modern Farm Props) Projects are taking a lot of my time these days. There's also the decrease in this MD's interest from the readers, but I guess during the summer, many of You hopefully enjoy the outdoors and fresh air.

I will though surely come back to the Winding River Project once the colder (and wetter) weather installs itself, which could be possibly be in September or October 2012. (Promissed!!!) I guess you all understand and I positively hope that you will come back when the the Valley continues to develop (with new Nexis BATs) and action becomes intenser. (Remember that Mike, a former special division soldier of the second worldwar, is planning to hit the armybase later this fall to find out once and for all what really is going on there).

I wish you a beautiful summer and great happenings for you all and make sure you come back later. Meanwhile you can see me in the FrankU and Nexis CO-OP Thread and in my BAT-thread of Nexis Works for the rest of summer.

Wouldn't call it a slowdown in interest on my part so much as a upturn in workload in RL. Still enjoying the ride too, so I'll keep an eye out for the next update.

Well. I'm glad there's still some folks interested, even a lurker showed up. lol  (...welcome btw)

There's an update, or let's say some reminding facts of the story coming up near the second week of November. That's about the time that I will find peace and quiet from all the things I am busy with at the moment.

I am a few weeks late, but now I am back. I had a VERY busy summer and fall, like never seen before and this kept me from the internet, although I took a small peak almost every day or so.

Glad to see quite a few folks still interested in this MD, wo, some of you that I haven't seen around for quite a while.
I will be more regular from now on, at least until late spring.

First of all, let's have a little "backdraft" of the story, just to give us back some memories back and help us to continue the story in the right path.

<<  The story is about some Sims that have become the builders of the Winding River Region within Simland. Simland is (let's think of it as..) an imaginary Nation somewhere in between Canada and the US or something like this. Aborigins were people that arrived from northern Europe, sometime 5 or even 6 thousand years ago, but they almost completely disappeared before the modern Europeans arrived on the continent. Today Sims are descendants form several mixed cultures, who came with the first Europeans building up the 14 regions to a fast growing nation. The regions can be seen on the Simland Map below.

The Winding River Region is the center of the story, although we will sometimes travel through other existing regions in Simlandand jumping from one to another (jumper), all depending where the story brings us to. The story started when the Gabber Company received the job to connect Highway 15 from Sandon with Highway 30 from Beecherfalls through the wilderness of the Winding River Valley and where a small community installed itself after the highway and the highway's access road jointed. This was the beginning of Access Junction. It grew with the years and finally became Access Center. Later some other small communities appeared on the map, such as Grasslake, Phlox, Fingerlake, Valmore and Holland Falls. While Access Center was growing a lot faster than the other communities, it finally swallowed up a few such as Valmore and Grasslake that became an official part of Access Center.
We are, at the moment, in 1967 and the highway is not yet finished, but it should reach the end of the region withing the next year. Meanwhile other roads have been added and/or are about to be added to the region.>>

The story also includes a quite a few "characters" (which I have called so), some of them sponsered by our regular Readers. I have added some of them.
Let's re-visit these "characters" now, just for the fun of it and to remember who and what they are and present in the story.

- The Gabber Family, the most important Sims in the story. Here are John Gabber (58), his wife Mary Moondall (51) and their children, John Jr (27), Vera (25), Melody-Ann (22), William (19),aka Billy and Charly (17), the last which is also the story teller together with me. Then there is John's brother Gary (54), who is the CEO of the Gabber Ltd,and his wife Jackie Melhorn (47) and their son Edward (17), then the Gabber father Henry (79), the founder of the company in early 20th century and his wife Marlene, which lately died at the age of 75.

- Mike Allheimer (56) is the General Foreman of Gabber Constructions and John's best friend since WW II, where both were specially trained fighterpilots, his wife Liza van Hove (51).

- Rundi Sterling (65) is the multi-millionaire in the story, an aborigin that owns almost a third of the region's lands, who is also a vivd collector of ....real live castles. His wife is Tyla (51) and they have 8 children. He is in Finance and Banking.

- Joe Bean (46) was and still is the first Editor and founder of the local newspaper "The Access Tribune".

- Steven Bartlett (31) is the second mayor of Access Center since 1963 and he is in his second manditory.

Other characters are:

Ouff, I hope I haven't forgotten anyone......
And of course some other characters of mine that appear and disappear with time.

Now, as you can see, there's quite a few characters, actually there are more than 65,  which I will have to remember with all what they did, where they came from and what they'll be doing in the coming years in the Valley of the Winding River. But I have made some small notes on paper that I keep close by (better not loose those), for when ever I need to be reminded. ;)

Some of these will disappear within a short time, because I will keep only keep those who have still their "Master" around once in a while. I guess some SC4D members have gone during summer and changed their past-time to something else by now. But maybe when a few are gone and some new vivid readers appear, I might create new characters for whatever they wish for.

These "Characters" have shaped and formed the region sofar and will continue to do so, their influence is great and who knows....anything can happen.

Meanwhile. I will keep this MD going from where it stopped, the Ten Rocks in the Venus County, where the Gabbers started a small shortcut road to the eastcoast right through the well known and unmapped Dark Forest area and suddenl;y arrived onto a ....mysterious big roch formation, maybe thousand of years old. This area is close to the Dark Forest region.

tenrocks.....

So, let's be entertained.....
Please read the last two or three updates to get back into the story.
I will be back within a week, now that I can relax again for a few months. I just love winter for this here in Canada. ;)

Hope to see most of you (all) back and also see some new faces and readers.

Fantastic to see you back, Fred. I remember reading the Winding River Project a long time ago, probably when it had just started, but I wasn't very active as a member back then (if at all). I still need to get through most of the thread, which by flicking through it I know will be worth it.

One note, on the region picture: it looks like imageshack has resized it to 800px wide. I should recommend majhost.com for large pictures - it's quite good.

Very surprising to see you back, i like how you included that to "refresh" our memories.

This has always been one of my favorites and it was amazing to see you come back after all that time. :)
