Introduction

Here are a few pictures from around the Bordertown Region.

I have already planted trees and the like on the map:

For the basic 'barebones' of the region, I have taken the pallette and inspiration from Temperate Eastern Australia.

Everything on the map was hand-placed (there isn't an Australian Tree Controller in existence that I know of) - thank goodness it is a small map with only medium tiles  ::)

I have used the following to create what you see:

* Missouri Breaks Terrain Mod
* Windjammer and Gizmo Water mod (tweaked in the reader to stop the intense transperancy)
* Jeronij's Eucalypts (Big, Clump and White varieties) placed first
* Maxis God mode trees for some understory growth - yes even Maxis lollipop trees have their purpose; in this case, it is their inherent dusky colours which make them suitable for a bushland setting
* Dusktroopers Water Pecan and water trees - good understory trees similar to bankias, wattles etc)
* CPs Burnt lodgepoles - very similar to the native casurinas and allocasurinas - a very primitive form of tree similar to a pine
* Assorted grasses and wildflowers from ALNs beautiful series
* CPs/Jeronij et al rocks

And, once I start building, Northern hemisphere trees will be planted and interspersed with the native bushland - just like here in Australia

Hand-placed?  :o Wow. That looks amazing, and this version of the GRV II looks far different than the others.

Nice work Matt, I like it, a lot. &apls

Trees?    ???

My recollection from watching the movies 'Mad Max' and 'Thunderdome' was that Australia looked like this. I think that MrB should dock some frist round points from your score for Fibbery.  :D

definite fibbery :P

insane efforts on the treeplanting, one of the most realistic forest palettes i have ever seen in game.... if this is an indictation of things to come, dang man.... (as a side note we going to see any more BAT's from my favourite creator.....) (couldn't resist that sorry :P)

cannot wait for this shindig to get started....
NAM + CAM + RAM + SAM, that's how I roll....

Hm.....Coming in strong as I see. Excellent choice of a combination of terrain, water, rock and treemods. It looks so.....australian. Good start and Good luck with your version of BORDERTOWN. I am sure it will be interesting to follow you. ;)

Now we know who's going to be in the last place. Doubt you'll have the nerve to destroy such a beautiful natural landscape to build a city on it  :P

Thought about entering.... now I got seconds thoughts ........

Hand placed?  You might have said nothing and no one would ever have known because it was so well done.  The two closeups are so good that I wonder how you ever plan on marring such a jewel that you've (thus far) created.
You're telling me I get to be home for more than 12 months?

this years competition is going to be fierce.... real fierce...

newsimaddict

oh dear oh dear...and i'd already begun planting my eucalyptus trees in my region.

I feel so...2nd hand in ideas...  ;)

Beautiful region - it looks just like the river that runs parallel to my folk's farm. Definately looking forward to seeing more!

mattb325

Oops - it appears I have caused a stir.... ()what()  $%Grinno$%

Actually, to place the trees isn't too laborious an excercise, given that these are mostly large LOD trees in family clumps of approximately 5 per click, so they can cover a reasonably wide area with relatively few props.

The maxis trees (in god mode) are then used to fill in the gaps between the eucalypt trees so that the whole scene looks full.

The hardest part is the burnt lodgepoles which occupy the understories - these require quite a lot of clicking to get move between the juvenile forms and the final ones pictured.

I rarely spend more than 30-45 minutes per tile, and even then I am largely holding the mouse and waving my hand around like a lunatic  :D

But, thankyou all for the lovely comments  ;D - as for winning, well, there are many challenges ahead yet and the list of competitors has some truly fine city builders  ;)

I was the only one who finished all the challenges so there was no competition. Here - well I am up against some of the best landscapers in SC4. ::)

I want to learn your skills, when I do that the result doesn't look that nice  :D

Hey Matt, I see we are going to have a problem. I drink tooheys  :D

Nice work with the landscaping, looks great with plenty of detail.

Before too many sims move in though, you better invest in a rescue chopper. I can see a bushwalker or two going missing  ;).

I'm really looking forward to see how this comes along.
