The ore rail
When the railroad was built its main purpose was to transport ore from the mining cities in the regions north of the Bordertown area to steel mills and seaports in Bordertown area and further south. Nowadays the railroad is used for both passanger and goods transport. Southwards from Bordertown the railroad runs along the coast to cities further south. As the trains usually are very heavy, fully loaded with ore and the differencies in height from the mining cities to Bordertown are large, trains get very hard to stop, even with full breaks on. Engineers found a solution for this by making the rail slightly curved, so that some of the kinetic energy of the train is always used to change direction instead of going straight forward. The last of these curves can be seen in the picture above, where the rail runs at the side of a hill. The bridges over Vespucci River have a clearance below of 21.0m.


C10 - Continental Route 10 or Columbia Route 10
C10 is part of the international C-road network which is a numbering system for roads in the continent of Columbia. The total lenght for C10 is 1260 km including 13km in the Bordertown area. C10 runs through all major cities on the east coast in Columbia. Most of C10's stretching through the Bordertown area are old. Parts of the road's stretching dates back from the mid 1700s, mainly those parts that runs just beside the rivers. Roads along the rivers were cleared during that era for horses that towed boats and barges. Bridges over Vespucci River are built where construction cost and road length ratio was lowest, other factors considered were environmental impact and aesthetics. Clearance below the bridge are 21.6m.

Now that you posted your pictures, you are not allowed to change anything anymore. We made copies and judge the originals only.

We also will not make any comments in this thread besides the judging once it is finished by Wednesday next week, but we will make useful and friendly comments in your regular thread of GRV. Points will be given 3 to 4 days after the challenge is finished and will be posted in the Pointage Sheet.
Also your points only together with an explanation and comments why we gave you these points, will be posted here at the end of this challenge.

Man, I wish I could just go out and ski for the weekend. :P

But nice job here! Some good points were made as to your choices. I'm also kinda curious to see how Tile A/D was handled.

First of all let us congratulate You. You have made it through the first Mayor's test.
On the picture below, circles with letters will indicate what was important
in your region for this challenge. If we say we don't like or we like, it doesn't mean that it's the same for others. We are judging to our lknowledge and what would be the most logical thing to do in our opinion, remember this.

A.  well thought over crossing of the river, a little more expensive than usual but surely more helpful for the traffic.
B.  For rails this is about the worst place to start. Mountains cost money for railbuilding and therefor to be avoided. Not a good idea.
C.  We like the way the road follows the river.
D.  Bad idea and very expensive for the budget to have built 6 bridges in the same spot, that is almost as bad as building a tunnel when you can easily contour the mountain.
E.  Good choice to cross.

We were going to give you only a total of 5 because of the 6 bridge crossing, but because the rest of the rails and roads (on the southern part of the region) are almost perfect, we decided that you earned your 6 points afterall, which is fairly good. Congratulations and good luck with the next challenge. Very nice pictures!
