Is it possible to have the Maxis landfill 'buildings' (garbage piles) as props or overlay textures?  It actually looks pretty good for an industrial piles of compost.

Also, how do you change the query of a prop (not building)?

Quite possible, and very simple in the "X Tool"...
So simple, that I just had to extract them into a small prop pack.

I've enclosed it (BSC Props - RippleJet Rubbish.dat) to this post.
If needed, feel free to include it in your upload. Do not change its filename if you do though.

The minimal prop pack contains 5 props, all ingame landfill piles of garbage.
I've also made a prop family for them, 0xB5C000AB - RippleJet's Rubbish.

At some stage this small prop pack will be included in BSC MEGA Props Misc 03.
Whenever that pack is ready, a Cleanitol file will be included that will make sure "BSC Props - RippleJet Rubbish.dat" is removed.

A prop must have a User Visible Name Key in order for the hover query to function properly.
Read more about it in section D of Names and descriptions of buildings and props.

@RippleJet: It's definitely good that someone has compiled these as props, finally! Having examined the landfills in the past, I do have some few suggestions though:
- These props/models are not the same, there are special tiles, middle, inner corner, side and corner, with a capacity (and maintenance cost) of 100%, 75%, 50% and 25% respectively. There is also a special tile with minimal garbage, looking like flat soiled ground. That is these need to be placed in some specific order, for the heaps to look like heaps, and not be ended abruptly. The smallest possible heap is 2x2 tiles, consisting of 4 "corner" models. Could you please add such short descriptions in the exemplar names, to make these easier to use by lotmakers?
- As these need to be placed in a specific manner, I think the prop-famlily makes no sense, and should rather have to be removed. Placing them randomly will result in an odd look.
- I see that the Is Ground Model property has been set to True. Could you reconsider this? You won't get any worthy shadow for these, only the shadow may cause an ugly "jaggies" effect around the base, or even the "grille" effect. I have used this technique (setting Is Ground Model to false) for quite a few low-height and wide or long models, in some cases they look much better this way. Sorry, haven't tested these ingame, this is just from my experience.
- Also, the Orient To Slope property is set to False. Maxis landfills really aren't looking good on slopes, and maybe setting it to True might be preferable (for tesing, Park lots typically don't flatten the ground, they just "sit" on the terrain).

@Amtrak7: For these to look right, you have firstly to pick the correct models/props, as explained above, and secondly line them up exactly. This might be a little tricky to do in LE, but there is a technique that can help. For each prop:
- Drag it to the corner of the lot, as far as it can go, using the MOUSE.
- While holding the Shift key pressed, move the prop to the desired place using the arrow keys of your keyboard. This moves the prop in steps of 1m.
- Repeat the above for all props you wish to use - it will be easy to line them up exactly this way.
- Once all the props are lined up, you can select them all together (surround them in a rectangle) and moved to the desired place again all together.

I have tried to find the ladfill bug (resulting in abnormally shaped garbage heaps and "immortal" landfills), but with no success. It looks like being hardcoded in the game, and it's buggy. Pitty, it used to work correctly in SC3000.

Cogeo, thanks for pointing out how to do rubbish! :) ::) $%Grinno$%

...and a diagonal (two opposite inner corners). :)

Yes, I added that one now. :)

Now I've called them:

  • Landfill - Emtpy
  • Landfill - Middle
  • Landfill - Side
  • Landfill - Corner
  • Landfill - Inner Corner
  • Landfill - Diagonal

Agreed! I only saw the corner lot was different at first, but after rotating them I started to see what they were... :)

Reconsidered, and agreed again! :)

Now they're tilting on slopes as well! :)

Amtrak7 and Cogeo, I haven't tested these in LE and the game myself, so I'd appreciate if you could give me some more feedback if needed.
Thanks! :)

Pat

Yeah, I gave them a small flammability, between 0 (for the empty tile) and 10 (for the middle, full tile) :)
