Hello every body ! I open the discussion in the TSC forum to show you my project, the 1 Place Ville-Marie, a building of Montreal.

And in the BAT

To finished it, I must do the lights and it take me a lot of time  $%Grinno$%

Excellent start..I like the subtle nightlights on the ground floor...but I would some reflection mapping into the glass roof material, it looks too clear both day and night.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it

Antoine

the glass in the roof look clean because it's a discotheque ;) but it have changed a lot

Before you get crazy with the windows, make a quick search at ST's Omnibus. There is a tutorial somewhere there where you can find some hints about making reallistic windows nightlighting in an easy way.

I really like the overall look of the model. Indeed  &apls

I was referring to another tutorial, which explains how to deal with plain windows, like the ones in your building. Well, I guess these are plain windows ( single panels that you will light individually.

Unfortuantely, after half an hour of searching without success, I cant find that tutorial  &mmm¡

I like the lighting so far. Very well done

Thanks for comms !

Wow thanks to have searched it  ()stsfd() and no problem, I'll try to do good things ^^

QuoteI think the texture on the skyscraper walls needs a slight gradient and a color tone added (maybe silvery blue, peach, or very light brown or yellow) since grey/white textures on BATs always seem to make buildings look unfinished or untextured, which I think is just a nasty side effect of the gmax lighting rig. For example, the slightly tan texture you used on the base of the skyscraper (the lobby part) looks much better. Also, I know the windows look black in the RL picture of the building you posted, but black windows don't look too good in SC4. Maybe a reflective bluish texture would look better? Finally, add some dirt and weathering to the roof texture so it won't look so flat.

for grey textures, it's because of the real building  &mmm and I'll change the glasses black, good idea  ;) for the roof, I haven't a lot of texture  &mmm

Now this is exciting. Whenever I think of Montreal this is the buidling that comes to mind. It's very unique and very distinctive icon for the city in its own kind of bleak modernist kind of way. As a Canadian I'm delighted to see a building I recognize heading for Sim City.

Now I think Marcszar has some excellent advice and I agree with most of it, but I do have a slightly different take. I think your building could use some dirtying and gradients and such, the windows probably shouldn't be pitch black and the roof definitely needs some more weathering (Marcszar is bang on there), but I wouldn't wander too far from the real life building's grey by adding too strong a colour tone. It's just too iconic to make it some other colour. Changing the shade slightly is one thing, but going with a new colour for the sake of what Maxis gave us isn't something I would advise. I would probably just darken the grey since the shade you have now will probably appear too bright in Sim City (Sim City generally lightens everything).

marcszar : for the wall I prefer to do it grey, like the reality, because it's particular of this
building  ;) but for the roof, the screen you change is very good ! But I am a noob in photophiltre  &mmm can you explain me what is the things to do have the different textures ?

And I cannot change the windows, because there are 8320 windows to change ^^

Once more I'm impressed by your rise as BATer , Antoine.... &apls
To BAT is like to speak chinese for me so I will not give you criticisms or advices .
But this BAT invite me to suggest you another BAT ; "Le 1250 Boulevard René-Lévesque" , Ville-Marie too ...
This buiding has been already done by a certain crazydannah in 2004 at Simcity.ea.com (.....yes !  ;D ) but it looks currently unachieved .
Link to the real building : http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=112402 , enlarge pictures and you'll find another link for an entire set of pictures ....

For crazydannah's work at Simcity.ea.com you have to Login before to search for "crazydannah" or "Grand Retail Tower"
Have a look , I'm sure it would be a success on the STEX ... ;)
