My goodness. What an excellent beginning. Makes me think of my own MD that has stalled for months now...hehe.... Good luck with this!! Will be watching with great interest and envy!!

knapp

It's really fantastic, what you're doing here!  &apls &apls
I just can't get enough of that, being a fan of the European history. The Roman camp is very well organized, so I think the indigenes will get serious problems if they try to defnd themselves. Unfortunately, even the best willing governement is sometimes involved in a war. It could be so simple, if men would show more will to live in peace...

But I admire your skills at the BAT. This is very awesome. (I know, I repeat, but I can't stop saying it  ;) )

Hei Gjermund!

I found the way to this CJ just now and must say this is spectacular stuff...
It will be very interesting to see how this develops as time passes.
Congratulations to your OSIM-award, it is well deserved!

Bobbi -  Thanks for your comment

Schulmanator – I am glad you like the ancient look, has been a lot of work to get it this far.

Kimcar – Thanks a lot.

Fabian – Oh, yes I will keep going for quite some time still, thanks for stopping by.

Earthquake – I am quite pleased with my Roman camp as well, but of course there is always room for improvements.

Tomas Neto – Thanks for visiting Andau.

Thingfishs – Well, the new update has just been posted. And no problem with your comment earlier, I think we both have the same idea even without or with a wink. Hope to see your winery released soon.

Jason – Yes, you could say the Romans are bringing nothing but trouble to the people of this region. Hira – they are preparing as best they can.

Djvandrake – Julius Caesar is of course the most prominent Roman we know today. Even after 2000 years his name are known by most people in the Western world. And his story is quite fascinating, so no wonder.

Battlecat – Thanks for your comment. So far all buildings and a lot of the props are of my own making. The flora and fauna are by other makers, as you might recognize I am using a lot cp's stuff, both props and textures.

Stijn – That is good to hear, hope you will enjoy the Roman advances.

Bernhard – Yes, I do know I am crazy in pursuing this project, but as long as I have fun doing it, it really does not matter. Still a few updates before the Romans are truly settled in this area.

JB – Thanks for stopping by and I hope I will see you here more often.

Geoff – Of course the Romans will pillage and plunder, the Batavians are the first to notice this behaviour by the their new occupation force.

Dragonsbay – I really think it is a pity you have not continued on your MD, it did start out very well. If there is anything you need just let me know.

Knapp – Well, then we both have a keen interest in European history. As you can see in this update, the natives do not stand much of a chance against such an well organized enemy. Wars have been a big part of human history, conflict seems to be a more constant than anything else.

Swesim – Thanks a lot for stopping by, I hope you will enjoy the MD as it continues through the centuries.
Og du skriver bedre norsk enn det jeg kan. :D

Update 5 The conquest of the Batavian Homelands

In the late spring of 57 BC, the Roman armies are on the march again. Unfortunately for the Batavians the ships sailing up the Rhine is the first part of the force arriving in Andica. The ships have been split up and each village are confronted with landings of Roman troops. The main settlement at Dornick is completely overrun by the Roman soldiers, although the Batavians are courageous in defending their homeland, the results are the same everywhere along the river; any Batavian resistance is crushed without mercy.

After the landing at Dornick the Romans are burning and pillaging their way through the village.

An overview of the results of the first part of the Roman invasion along the Rhine

Here is a map with the movements of the Romans and the defences of the different tribes during the
summer of 57 BC.
Caesar is closing in on Hira with two legions.

Next update should follow soon.

2010.8.14 - I can get on the Internet at home.:)

Swesim

Hei igjen!

Hvordan fikk du soldatene til å sitte oppå hestene, er det egne props?
Ellers veldig intressant å se hvordan Romerne tar seg fem gjennom byene.
Vi sees i neste update!

How did you get those soldiers up on the horsebacks, is it your own props?
It was interesting to see how those Romans made their way through those poor villages.
See you in the next update!

DebussyMan

Poor Batavians, but then again, few have what it takes to sand up to mighty Rome  &mmm

Can't wait until the next update...  :)

Very cool update!  The locals are pretty much out of luck for fighting off the romans!

Tomas Neto

Wow, your style of presenting the updates is strikingly different and fantastic!!! I like very much, and another great update!!!  &apls

calibanX

Yesss!! Those Batavians had it coming. How dare they stand in the way of enlightened Roman progress. Now those ugly dirt roads will be beautifully paved in stone. Worth the price paid I say.

Carry on.

Schulmanator – Indeed they are moving fast now

Bobbi – Thanks for your comment

Swesim – The soldiers are props, and I simply put them together with the horses from Ripptide prop packs in the LotEditor. Raising them a bit and you get the illusion of Romans riding horses.

Debussyman – The Batavians were a bit unlucky and unprepared, they did not know the Romans would be sailing up the river on boats. They were expecting an attack from the south.

Battlecat – Best advice at the moment would be: If you can't beat them, join them. :D

Tomas Neto – Thanks a lot, I am glad you like it.

Geoff – The Batavians were just in the wrong spot at the wrong time, and they will survive this. It looks worse than it actually is, only the villages along the river where hit this bad. The inland areas are not that affected by the attack (yet)  $%#Ninj2

Kimcar – thanks, the effects were not that difficult to do, nice of you to leave a comment.

Teaser update 6
It has been a busy time at work, and little time for Simcity, but I have managed to do some smaller things for the next update. So far there have been only Roman soldiers, but as we are preparing for the battle of Hira we need some barbarians too.
And here they are moving towards the Romans who are passing over the Elsenborner ridge as we speak.

adroman

Simply wonderful!

Andau certainly has some history  ;)

Are those soldiers and horses Mayor Mode Ploppables or yours? ... they look fantastic!

Havva good one,
Adrian.
737s, Air Force, Australia... what next?

Schulmanator

I am jealous of your quality custom BATs. Very nice!  %BUd%
