Update 17

Today we are going upriver from Estuarium to one of the Imperial Estates created after the pacification of this area by Julius Caesar. After his extermination of the tribes of the Eburones and their allies the Menapians large areas along the Es river were kept for the Imperial family. This lands have now passed over to the ruling Emperor Octavius.
The Praetorian Rivus is developing and running these estates, a reward he has received after a long and successful military career.
Rivus has built himself a large villa at Asarum. The village is depending on the villa and its owners as all land here is part of the estate.

An overview of the villa and and the village

Zooming in on the villa

The back of the villa

A farm with sheep and horses, also part of the villa estate

Wonderful update (as always)
How much history lessons would you have for us?

RickD

Excellent work once again. ;)
Reading your MD always reminds me of a teacher I had in fourth grade. He was obsessed with roman history. He took us to all the places in the area where once a roman road or a villa rustica had been. Unfortunately a few piles of rubble was all there was to see.  %wrd But he passed a bit of his interest on to me nevertheless. ;)

A lot of nice new pictures of this village! Looking forward to more from your great work.

Very nice-looking villa and village! I especially enjoyed the horse and other animals  ;D   Great job giving the area a historic, Roman feel!

metarvo

I recognize Trolca's dirt streets there, but it also looks like you have a custom SAM set in use as well.  It must be functional; I don't think you plopped all of those farms and houses.  I really like the way your farms are fenced off.  I feel like this clearly defines the property lines.  The history is a nice touch, too.  Good work, Gjermund!

I am impressed with how the lot turned out!     Yeah, I've had to focus on schoolwork for the semester, and that means no time for SC4.

I'm interested to know how you make your farm fields, some without an anchor building.  Do you bulldoze/plop over the building, or plop the entire farm?

A short but oh so sweet update.

I love how you use all these custom BATS, and you make it so your MD comes to life.

Tomas Neto: Thank you

Scirius: You are right about the home made mod, these are textures from Cyccledog that I have adapted to use as streets.

Ernst: I have just started. We still have some 2000 years to go :D

RickD: I am probably obsessed indeed, not only by Roman history, but by history in general. I have a bit pity on you though having to go through looking at piles of rubble in your childhood.  :D Still he managed to get you interested so he must have done something right. :)

Bat: Thanks a lot

Noahclem: Thanks for stopping by and only smell of manure in the streets of Andau for now :D

Metarvo:Indeed those are Trolca's dirtroads supplemented with some of my own. The streets are from cyccledog also adapted to use instead of the normal maxis streets. All residentials/commercials/industrials are growing as in the normal game. Thanks for noticing the fencing it takes such a long time to do detailing like that, I always only do some parts. ;)

Schulmanator: Thanks for visiting

Kergelen: Thanks a lot, I can always share if you are interested.

Sumwonyuno: The farms are mostly made with invisible buildings and I use the same crops to cover up the area where there normally would be a barn. All farms are growing by themselves.

Kelis: Thanks a lot for commenting.

Nedalezz: Thanks for your very kind comment.

Update 18

We have now moved forward to 10 AD, the famous battle of Teutoburger forest took place in 9 AD.
In this battle three Roman legions led by the senator Publius Quinctilius Varus were defeated by the tribes living to the east of the Rhine. This has been a serious set-back for the Romans and all military and civil settlements on the east bank have been abandoned.
The strip of land along the Rhine are now organized into three military "provinces". The lower Rhine has its main headquarters at Ara Bromia and the commander Tiberius has three full legions to his disposal in this area. These legions have very recently been brought here to replace the ones that were lost during the battle of Teutoburger forest.

Legion V Alaudae is stationed at Castra Vetera, a military camp that was built by Drusus (adopted son of Augustus) in 11 BC.  Drusus died already in 9 BC after falling off his horse during a campaign on the east side of the Rhine.
This Castra will be the staging point for new campaigns to the east lead this time by Tiberius.

First is the overview of the camp, its river port and vicus.

Here we have an overview of the camp itself with the different buildings like they were called by the Romans. In its layout and buildings this camp is typical in the way the Romans planned their military installations. I have done a little interpretation of the different maps and plans I have seen of forts from this period, but it is fairly accurate.

Centuriae – the barracks to house the infantry and centurions
Principia – administrative-, assembly and religious building containing the standards of the legion
Praetorium – home of the command officer and his family
Tribuni/Tribunus/ Praefectus/Centurion – homes of the higher officers and their families
Horrea – granaries
Valetudinarium – hospital
Fabricae – workshops
Refectorium – refectory and bakery
Armamentaria – armoury

This is the principia at Castra Vetera. It is a basilica type building with a courtyard and the legions standards are kept in the sacellum here. This room is on the main axis of the building, facing not just the entrance to the principia but also the main entrance to the fort.

The parade ground in front of the principia

The praetorium with a large courtyard garden and pool. The private rooms of the commanding officer are at the back of the complex.

The Via Praetoria

Homes of the fort tribune and the fort prefect.

The valetudinarium. The hospital have ranges of single rooms organized along a corridor or the central courtyard.

The fabricae producing and maintaining all equipment except the weaponry.

The armamentaria producing and maintaining the legions weaponry

The refectorium with grain mills, a bakery and a mess hall.

Hope you enjoy this update.
