HI, :)

I have a request map.

The Natural park of Lubéron, France.

some screen of region :

A rather ambiguous request, but please could I have:

1. An area that has a very little population and infrastructure in either Wyoming or South Dakota.
2. An area that's roughly 40km x 40km.
3. An area that's as flat as possible (which considering the location I'm asking for, I use the word flat loosely).

Idea is that I want to start a CJ based on a real life area that is currently almost uninhabited.

G'Day Devotees,

We finally see the wet season arriving with a drop in temperatures and about 12 or 13 inches of rain this week so there wasn't much to outside. I thought I'd crank up the map-o-matic and see how she was feeling. Good by the looks of things and so another grab bag of beauties are here for your pleasure.

Welcome back David, long time no hear. Thanks mate and I'm glad you are appreciating them. The poor old girl does smoke up a bit here and there but I keep an extinguisher handy for any unexpected fires.  :D

Thanks Izi, Yep Antwerpen was a pretty big job. Not as big as Vester's monster or Turku though and they should be finished in a couple of weeks.

and welcome back Namspopof, I can certainly make you a map of Lubéron. About 2or 3 weeks probably.

G'Day Francism89 and welcome to you. It's your lucky day I found a joint in South Dakota that pretty much fits your gig.

And for today's show we have...

rummage, rummage, rummage... This courtesy of a request by Subfly09, Thanks mate.

Tainan is 45.056km x 45.056km.

Tainan has been rotated 12 degrees counter-clockwise to align the grid.

Of course there is an un-rotated version for the stex.

Tainan is 53.248km x 57.344km.

Also a little larger.

And next poking it's head from the box is courtesy of a request from Cogeo, thanks mate.

Thessaloniki is 28.672km x 28.672km.

There must be a few old pots around these parts.

Along for the ride courtesy of Eugenelavery is this, Thanks mate.

Malé is 40.96km x 65.536km.

I hope you have a seaworthy canoe!

This next map is courtesy of a request from Luca.coelho, thanks mate.

Vitoria is 53.248km x 49.152km.

Some more Brasilian loveliness.

Thanks to Wmmangus for for this next request, thanks mate.

Nikumaroro is 8.192km x 8.192km.

Is this more Pacific Paradise?

And last for this week is courtesy of Francism89, thanks mate.

Enning is 40.96km x 40.96km.

It's pretty lonely around these parts.

These and other maps can be found on a lex or stex near you.

And so it is said, that's your lot for now.
Thanks for looking and have a great day.

Cheers

You have the procedure down to a science. The rivers of the Tainan region snake way back into the countryside. I like that region and I think I'll grab it while it's hot.

Thank you for your efforts.

Could I trouble you for a 28.672km x 28.672km map centered halfway between Cathlamet, WA and Skamokawa, WA (USA)? (If my measurements in Google Earth are correct, the center point would be at 46°14'11.95"N, 123°25'12.7"W. I hope this is helpful to you.)

Many thanks in advance!

Feel brand new. Be inspired.

I checked the Thessaloniki map, and it's really awesome!!!

I have some questions to make though:
- You mentioned that you have used both DEM and satellite data. What exactly "satellite data" stands for? Can you combine these with DEM, esp if they are from a different source? I mean, do they coincide exactly?
- How did you make water? I guess you must have some sort of "water mask", and use Terraformer (or some other tool or technique) to set water depth (increasing as you get away from the coast). Are you using any ready-made data, or "draw" them manually, or maybe combine the two methods, ie mark all -32K elevations (no data) as water and make local corrections manually? There are sites with bathymetric data, however the previous question applies here too, ie can they be combined well with DEM? In the map I can even see irrigation/drainage canals, and I'm really curious if there are such data available.

Thanks again!

G'Day Devotees,

Hmm, first up while I have finished a few maps I have not yet rendered them for piccies. I was away earlier in the month and rest assured the next post will have a show'n tell attached.
I have added a few observations to to my thread in the Sim City 4 Devotion Tools/Custom Content Creation Tools/SC4 Terraformer forum concerning ram  and module sizes etc.

G'Day Jim welcome back. Thankyou for your kind words, I hope you do enjoy playing on Tainan and It's Hot

Thanks FrancisM89, You're welcome mate.

No worries Mr Stark. I have Lisbon almost complete. Did you get mapper and terraformer working ok? If not pm me and we can sort it out.

G'day Woodb3kmaster and welcome. Surely, surely a map of that is also no probs. In fact it too is almost complete ;<). It was very helpful, thankyou.

No probs Willy, you're wlcome. Thanks mate. I hope you put a flag up.

Thanks Cogeo, You are welcome too.

The satellite data are the images from google maps. You will notice if I make a dry map I only quote dem data. I use the sat pics to lasso all the water. Its' size doesn't matter the larger the better, I normally go with images showing the scale of 200m. Sometimes it takes 70 or 80 of these pics stitched together in ps, but mostly in the range of 40 to 50.

Once I have lassoed the water I paint it a very water loving colour like 0c0b09. This equals about 247.8m in the 16bit grey palette. I then paste that layer on to a very highlighted (stretched) dem. Usually it is 4 to 6 times larger in area and so use transform to shrink it down to size. Most shrink to fit with scale but sometimes the images are well googled (bent) and I need to then use warp (this is why the dem needs to be stretched so I can see where it's supposed to go. If I have to use warp also then it changes the colour to something that equals 257m so I use the change colour command setting the output to -5 this makes it equal to 246.8m.I then make various layers of that water and change the colour finally reaching 020202.

I use terraformer very little for the actual map construction, only to set elevations and to make the .SC4M file unless the map is too big in which case I use mapper to make the .SC4M file.

I have often thought of using bathymetry, the data is quite coarse about 30minutes but that is okay. It is the coastlines that is the problem. Like the shapefiles available for dem the coastal and river delineation to put it bluntly is piss poor. I could bang out 10 maps a day with no water but it is the water that makes a map. For example the Archangel'sk map is really quite flat, I think about 47m offhand But the river system there is just phenominal and there is no easy way to capture the detail than by hand (mouse)

As for your last question the irrigation ditches, off the photos

I do not use google earth just google maps in the browser. Aside from the maps there are satellite photos and topographic maps. It is by far the best resource for making maps bar the dem data.

Cheers

Cool Namspopof, your map is one I have finished but not rendered yet so will be out shortly. Thanks.

Odd no show, oh well them's the breaks.

Thanks for looking and have a great day.

You maps look cool! And the Antwerp region looks very good  I see that Bergen op Zoom also is include in that map :) that nice, because there are no good maps of The Netherlands. So i prefer this one for my new region.

But if i can do a request for a new map of The Netherlands, I would like to have a map of this part of the country.

The province Brabant whit the provincial capital city 's-Hertogenbosch.

Hi Dob'

This is this specific point I have to experiment  &idea

My technique is a bit different as I scale each satellite photo on my "dry map". I wonder if this difference makes my "photo layer" less detailled...

Hips !

I got the Antwerp map working perfectly. when  i was following your instructions i mistakenly moved the mapper from my desktop to my secret folder, causing me to panic when i  could not find it. i thought that maybe i had did something wrong but its resolved now. thanks dobb

P.S.: Lisbon's almost done! yahoo!  $%Grinno$%

Dob,

I love your maps, but have one in particular that I would like to request. MallowTheCloud released this map back in 2006, but it was a bit smaller than what I wanted, so I figured I'd ask to see if you might be able to make it. It's southwestern Washington State (US). The lat/lon are:
NW Pt. - Lat N 46° 49' 55.2458", Lon W 124° 8' 9.2212"
SW Pt. - Lat N 46° 13' 59.8455", Lon W 124° 8' 9.2212"
NE Pt. - Lat N 46° 49' 55.2458", Lon W 123° 2' 19.0869"
SE Pt. - Lat N 46° 13' 59.8455", Lon W 123° 2' 19.0869"
My one weird request is, could you completely rotate it 180° so that the ocean is on the east side of the region? I'd like to make it an east coast city in the US.

I've attached a satellite map from Google of the region, lat/lon point to lat/lon point.

Thanks in advance if you take this on! :)

Would be nice to include some of Astoria, OR on this map as well, so that we can have the bridge connection to oregon.  Just my suggestion  ;)
