It seems like Cascadia is literally falling apart at the seams. With tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, huge cracks down the middle of streets, many of the people there must have thought it was the end of the world. Your history was still entertaining, though! :P About some of the CC you used, in the first and third pictures, I noticed that the SLR and an avenue go under the trans-Canadian highway using some sort of FLUP. Did you download that or is it in the NAM Version 30? Thanks and can't wait for your next update!

Those pictures of the mountain and especially the caldera are marvelous! I love it!

nbvc: Thanks!

Tomas (Tomas Neto): Thanks my friend!

i_love_lamp: lol, glad you liked that ;D

Nego: All the events I've written happen over a 60 year period, so the events are only mildly frequent ;D As for the underpass, it's available on the STEX, and I'd link you, but it's down again (Oh no! The llamas have gotten into the broccoli again! Hang on while we sort this out!)

Jason (Albus of Garaway): Thanks! I enjoyed making them!

Matthijs (MrMAvE94): Thanks!

The Pacific Republic of Cascadia

The Pacific Republic Of Cascadia (Cascadia) was established on February 1st, 1959 by Robert Holmes, a Cascadian Union activist in the years leading up to the Cascadian Revolution. It's government is considered a 'federal democratic constitutional parliament'. It is made up of mainly left-wing liberalists, and advocates for the protection of the environment and the free rights if it's citizens. With the capital in Vancouver, Cascadia is split into 5 provinces, 2 overseas territories, and a federal district. Each province is divided into regional districts, which has control in areas not governed by municipal councils.

Each municipality is given a designation of city (pop. > 10 000), town (pop. > 5 000), district municipality (>800 ha and 5 people/ha), or village (pop. < 2 500). Special designations are also given on a case by case basis (Resort Municipality of Whistler, Indian Municipality of Sechelt, Island Municipality of Bowen).

The Fraser District is not a part of any province, and contains the Regional District of Metro Vancouver, which in turn consists of 27 municipalities, ranging from the Village of Anmore (pop. 2067) to the City of Surrey (pop. 567,986).

In the years directly after World War II, Soviet-American animosities came to a head, especially after the Alaskan missile crisis in 1952. At the same time, Cascadian separatism came to a peak. Throughout the 40s and 50s, Cascadian nationalism grew, and when a referendum was laughed out of Washington, the Cascadian Union took matters into their own hands. Despite being designated a terrorist organization by the government, the leader of the union, Robert Holmes, was approached by the Soviet Union, who wanted to tear their rival nation,  the US, apart. The Soviets had light terms, and Holmes agreed to an alliance in case of war. On May 1, the Soviets and the Cascadian Union coordinated a series of attacks, which started the Cascadian Revolution, and lasted until June 24. The Treaty of Vancouver only came into existence because of the reluctance of US President Nixon to deal with the twin catastrophes of the Alaskan earthquake and Lassen Peak eruption. On Feb 1, 1959, the Pacific Republic of Cascadia was created, and recognized by all sovereign states. In September of that same year, Cascadia joined the United Nations.

Cascadia's participation in the Vietnam War was indirect, as many US citizens evaded the draft by moving to Cascadia and Canada. During the First Mexican Civil War, Cascadia sent troops to Mexico City, to contain the rioting. After the break up of major ally, the Soviet Union in 1991-4, Cascadia turned to it's former enemy and re-established ties with the US. The following decade of technological enhancement brought about the Digital Age in 2000, in which most households had at least one computer. After the secession of Yucatán, Chiapas, and Rio Grande in the Second Mexican Civil War, Cascadian emissaries were sent to each new country to help set up fair, democratic elections and enforce the temporary government. In 2008, with the declaration of independence of Kosovo, Cascadia was one of the few recognized to recognize the struggling nation.

During the Second American Civil War, Cascadia remained a neutral country, mainly watching as it's neighbour tore itself apart. After 16 years of violence, what was left of the Union severed ties with the rebellious West, including a bewildered Cascadia. As the fledgling countries of California and Great Plains struggled to remain independent during the later years of the War, Cascadia sent ambassadors to the respective capitals, where they helped setup temporary governments that would, after a period of time, be able to function without Cascade aid. When the war concluded, Cascadia was among the US, California, Great Plains, Canada and several more important countries during the peace talks.

For the past 76 years, Cascadia has had a thriving economy, often coming out of recessions with little more than a dent. Remaining dependent on it's own resources, mainly timber, water, and oil (which was found in 1967 in the province of Stikine). Cascadia is home to many major corporations, such as Apple, Microsoft, Starbucks, Amazon and Nike. under PM Selders, Cascadia became the world's fastest growing economy, with an unemployment percentage of only 2%. In a survey done by Reuters in 2009, in front of the upcoming bicentennial, 89% of Cascadian citizens surveyed said they felt more Cascadian than American, or Canadian. Last year, the same survey was conducted, and this time 99% said they identified with Cascadians.

Ah, February 9th, a fresh start in school with the grades all at 100% and new courses to keep me busy. As I've mentioned several times in CSGchat and in this UB/MD, I've got an easy semester that I can just coast along (compared to last semester, ugh....). Drama, Earth Science, French, and Social Studies are what I've got this time around, and i find all of them easy (OK, mebbe not French, I'll need to try in that class...) Anyways, I know that none of you care but where else am I gonna write this? :P
Anyways, with the rambling aside, today's update brings us to the Vancouver suburb known as Burnaby (not a recreation by any means). I had time yesterday, so I whipped up the CBD, and after an hour or so, I decided to do a mosaic. I know you missed them a lot, I haven't shown one since what, November? So anyways, here's today's update! As always, click each image for a larger version.

38-01
In centre left we have the Burnaby Police Dept (BPD) headquarters, which has Cascadia's second best Crime Lab, only behind the Cascadian Secret Intelligence Agency (CSIA). Centre-right is the Burton Condominiums, one of the best spots to live in Burnaby.

38-02
On the right is Trendon Avenue, which skirts Simpson Canal, a diverted river that serves as a fast transportation route for logs and kayakers. The Grand Burnaby Cathedral looms behind the Emerald Towers, home of the most expensive homes in Burnaby, arguably the whole of Fraser DIstrict.

38-03
Ah, a mosaic! How refreshing! All the way from Simpson Canal to Latimer Lake Regional Park, which contains trails, small rides, and a botanical garden.

February 10, 2011: The results of the South Sudan referendum are a success. The new nation will be created on July 9.

May 1, 2011: The East African federalization referendum falls through after Kenya votes 'No'. Another referendum is scheduled for May 2015.

July 2011: Serbia invades Kosovo. Kosovans fight back honourably, and succeed in repelling the Serbians back over the. UN intervenes in favour of Kosovo, and in the Treaty of Pristina, Serbia is forced to recognize the Republic of Kosovo, and withdraw all forces in a 2 kilometre radius from the border. The Treaty is immediately followed by a flurry of nations announcing their recognition of Kosovo. By August 3, all 195 sovereign states and all ten unrecognized countries recognize Kosovo.

July 9, 2011: The Republic of South Sudan officially comes into existence.

December 13-24, 2011: Chechnyan rebels declares independence. Russia immediately sends forces to stamp out the rebellion, and is beaten back by determined Chechnyans. After 3 weeks of guerilla warfare, the Chechyan rebels are crushed under the sheer numbers of the Russian forces.

December 31, 2011: The New Year's celebrations in Times Square end in a grisly manner when a suicide bomber detonates 14 kg of C4 in the middle of the crowd. over 700 people are killed, and hundreds more are injured. US President Barack Obama makes a nationwide announcement stepping up anti-terror tactics, and the construction of a new prison in American Samoa for terrorists.

May 5, 2012: Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic settles the dispute with Morocco. SADR cedes the land under it's control as long as Western Sahara remains autonomous, with a referendum on independence in 2015.

September 3, 2012 - July 4, 2013: Afghani Civil War. Only one month after the US withdraws from Afghanistan, the country is dissolved into over a dozen factions, and fighting begins anew. The UN refrains from deploying troops to this war.

November 7, 2012: In the 2012 US Presidential election, Haley Barbour wins, pledging to decrease the unemployment rate and to abolish the draft.

December 22, 2012: The world continues existing.

September 1, 2013: US President Barbour proposes a bill to abolish the draft. It is declined after a 5:1 vote. (I don't know American politics, feel free to PM me with a possible result)

May-July 2015: The second referendum on East African federalization succeeds. All five member nations federalize into the Federation of East Africa (FEA). The new nation quickly becomes plagued with riots protesting the federalization, and the new government can't cope with the rioting so soon after the referendum, and East Africa collapses into chaos. Tribal factions quickly establish control in the east, while Congolese forces take advantage of the confusions and invade the western states. The UN is forced to intervene on behalf of the FEA, and begins the reestablishment process of the Federation.

July 3, 2016: UN forces finish their withdrawal from East Africa, leaving behind a nation held together by their fear of returning to chaos. Canadian & Cascadian soldiers remain behind to help keep the peace on bases that will remain until 2020.

March 30, 2017 - July 17, 2025: Third Congo War begins. The government collapses when a terrorist attack levels the city of Kinshasa amongst heavy use of artillery and demolition. The nation is split into three factions: the democrats, the federalists, and the extremists. Guerrilla fighting continues is prominent until 2023, when the UN finally sends forces to try to stabilize the area. By the Treaty of Sangui, the situation has stabilized, resulting in the creation of two new nations, the Congolese Republic of Africa (CRA), and the Democratic Federation of East Congo (DFEC).

July 1, 2017: Hong Kong gains independence from China.

September 30, 2018 - December 29, 2034: South American Drug War. Drug cartels in South America start crumbling due to increased government raids. Many cartels take to terrorist acts in an attempt to dissuade any further raids. Government raids increase in number and frequency through out the 2020s and by 2033, most cartels have been eradicated, or have become more invisible than before. The Drug War ends with the death of Yuan Igualo, the leader of the Calaveras Rojas in December of 2034.

September 12, 2019: The Olympic Plaza is competed in Dubai, which contains underground tracks for each event in the Summer Olympics, and an aboveground portion containing each event that couldn't go underground (Baseball, football, etc.)

December 25, 2019: A 9.9 earthquake rips through the San Andreas fault, causing major damage in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. The quake is felt as far as New York, where windows rattled and church bells ring. The ensuing tsunami reaches a height of 35 metres (115 feet) and sweeping 5.4 kilometres inland. The epicentre is located as just offshore Santa Monica. Many term this quake 'The Big One'. It is the strongest earthquake ever recorded.

November 7, 2020: The results of the 2020 presidential election are announced, as Barack Obama is elected to a second term, the first president to be elected to a second, non-consecutive term since Cleveland.

Hope you guys enjoyed this little update, I'll try to have more soon!

Great update! All of the buildings in Burnaby look fantastic! I liked reading the history, too. My favorite part was when the world continued existing. :D The only thing that wouldn't happen would be the suicide bombing in Times Square as vehicles aren't allowed in Times Square on New Years. In fact, they can't even get anywhere near Times Square as everything is blocked off. Other then that, I liked it! &apls Great Job and can't wait for the next update!
