Nice update, canyonjumper! All of your ponds, rivers, lakes, and streams look fantastic! Your mosaic looks great, too. That's also a nice little campground you've got there. I can't wait for your next update! :)

Battlecat

Fantastic!  Love your use of those ponds and streams!

Raphael (RickD): Thanks Raphael!

djvandrake: Thanks alot DJ! I hope to set it a lot higher in the future ;D

Jayster: Thanks! I thought it turned out pretty good :)

Tomas (Tomas Neto): Thanks my friend ;D

Andrew (cubby420): Robbery :P Guess it's only fair, I jacked some ideas from your MD too ;D Thanks Andrew!

Marshall (marsh): Strange in what way? Thanks ;D

Kevin (Kevin1a): Thanks! I modeled the RHW-2 after what I see on my yearly trips to my grandparents' place in Quesnel. And yes, those trips are usually in the summer, where we fish and camp (which is why I thought of a campground ;D )

Will (penguin007): Thank you! I like to take inspiration from what I see around me on my trips around BC.

Scott (Scott1964): Thanks Scott!

metasmurf: Thanks! I'll try to get more of Balch Springs into future updates ;D

Nego: Thanks Nego! I worked hard on those ;D

Battlecat: Thanks Battlecat!

And I'm back for the 35th update of Cascadia! Today we return to civilization, only instead of Cloverdale, we have the suburban town of Surrey, Fraser. People around the Lower Mainland know where I got this name from :) Surrey is still a work in progress, so I'll show you what I've got. On with the pics! As with every update recently, larger pics can be accessed by clicking the pic

35-01
First off, a small mosaic of Elm Avenue, the main North-South thoroughfare through Surrey. Mas71's walls, FLuPs, and the NWM play a major part of this scene. Also, most of those houses are grown, something I haven't done in a while. Only the stubborn lots were plopped.

35-02
Surrey Heights Secondary School (SHSS), serving grades 8-12, is the largest school in the area. The Fleetwood Greenbelt starts here. It's the path off to the side of SHSS.

35-03
The SPD station, and a view of Fleetwood Plaza, along Elm Avenue.

35-04
The under-construction part of the Fleetwood Trail. As you can see, the trail is built, but nothing's been built around it yet.

June 17, 1958: 19 workers perish when the Second Narrows Bridge in Vancouver collapses during construction.

May 18, 1980: Mount St. Helens erupts in Pacifica, at 8:32 AM (PDT), causing 57 deaths and $3.54 billion CSD in damage. Widely regarded as a success in warning, geologists had the area cleared except for those who refused steadfastly, and the geologists themselves, including David Johnson, who perished in the pyroclastic flow.

April 1, 1982: As an April Fool's joke, a group of UBC students TP some facilities around the campus, then spray-painted 'UBC was here' on several benches in Pacific Spirit Regional Park.

September 1, 1990: An 5.6 earthquake on the island of La Palma, in the Canaries, sets the American East Coast on edge, as a large slab of the western flank of the island slips 5 metres towards the Atlantic.

January 1996: A Near-Earth Object (NEO) makes a close pass to the moon, missing it by just over 600 000 kilometres.

March 1, 1997: Voters decide to split the province of Columbia in two. The provinces of Stikine and Fraser are created.

December 2-17, 1998: A large blizzard engulfs Cascadia. Temperatures well below -15°C are recorded. Power is lost throughout the country, and many people freeze to death, as gasoline generators sold out hours before the storm arrived. Forests are flattened as winds exceeding 60 km/h are recorded in Stikine and Fraser.

June 21, 1999: An EF2 tornado touches down outside Vernon, Fraser. Residents are thrown off guard, and many perish in the ensuing chaos. The trail of destruction is 780 metres long, with the damage estimated in the $1 million range.

July-September, 2003: Wildfires spread throughout Fraser, Pacifica and Oregon. Widespread damage is estimated around $1.6 billion. The executive retreat on Tilote Lake is threatened, and the Prime Minister and family is evacuated to Vancouver.

October 4, 2005: Activity resumes on Mount St. Helens, creating a new lava dome, and several steam eruptions.

April 23. 2006: A Cascadian Humvee explodes after being hit with friendly fire from 2 USAF F-16s. Public outcry in Cascadia as the news makes top story on the CABC's 5 o'clock broadcast.

July 1, 2006: Cascadian troops are withdrawn from Afghanistan. PM Forte calls the war a "waste of taxpayer's time and money".

January 31, 2011: The 2010 census results are published, with the City of Surrey overtaking Vancouver as the largest city in Fraser. Plans to expand the Trans-Cascadian Highway to a second branch along Okanagan Lake are given the go-ahead, with the Village of Armstrong becoming the terminus for the new Highway 1A.

July 2, 2012: The TATWS (Trans-Atlantic Tsunami Warning System) is deployed as a system of buoys, sending constant measurements back to Washington, D.C.

April 1, 2014: FEMA designates a 'safe zone' from tsunamis on the East Coast, 25 miles (40 km) inland.

December 31, 2016: 5:56 AM WET. During a pneumo-magmatic eruption of the Cumbre Vieja vent on La Palma, the loose flank from the 1990 earthquake becomes freed, and slides 345 metres into the Atlantic Ocean. The resulting splash wave is 624 metres high. The TATWS detects the resulting tsunami, and predicts a 6:56 AM (EST) on the American East Coast. Warning systems along the Eastern Seaboard are set in motion, and most people area able to evacuate to the designated 'safe zone', 25 miles (40 km) inland. The first tsunami struck the US at 7:01 AM, EST, and the second and third waves hit at 7:23 and 7:37 AM respectively. The first wave was 201 feet high (61 metres), the second 225 feet (69 metres, and the third 302 feet (92 metres). Towns all along the East coast are either wiped off the map, or severely damages. Major cities have their streets swept clean, and the bottom floors of most buildings are gutted. Most notably, Central Park in Manhattan is reduced to a muddy mass of tree trunks and concrete. The death toll was 516 943, and over $56 billion (USD) in damage was caused.

And there you have it, Cascadia's newest update :) See you guys in 13 days, on December 12th, for Cascadia's

&dance  ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! &dance

I really like how that bike lane turned out!  And the terraced transition between the lowland and highland!  Where did you scare up that street tunnel entrance in the first picture?  Is it part of the FLUPS mod?

Interesting future history there!  I'm impressed that there was so little loss of life in the Tsunami considering how densely populated the East Coast is.  Sounds like that safe zone was pretty effective!

Tomas Neto

Wow, on December 12 will be the birthday of your MD, that amazes!!! Jordan my friend, fantastic city, an amazing suburbs!!! Great work!!!   &apls &apls

kassarc16

You have got to tell me where to get the trees on the Ave-2! Great pictures!

io_bg

I like the way you've built the bike lane, it fits perfectly! And great usage of Diggis' ponds on the previous page! Can't wait to see what you've in store for Cascadia's first anniversary!

Wow, nice update! Great use of the MAVE-2 fillers.

nbvc

Nice update. Great work with the Flups and roads.

RickD

I like the idea with the trail. And the first picture, the avenue, the walls, the road and houses on the plateau ... wow it looks gorgeus.  &apls

scott1964

Looking good. Which street textures did you are you using in 35-1?  :)

Kevin1a

Looks good.  Even though other people already said it, I really like the use of FLUPS.  I never thought of using the tunnel entrance with the 1x3 entrance like that.  Now all I have to do is wait for a 3x3 diagonal entrance that twists 90degrees like a corkscrew, and I'll be able to successfully model the railroad underpasses near my grandmothers house in Germany.

I also like how well the trails fit into the surrounding area.  Does Cascadia have a lot of bicycle commuters, or is it mostly recreational?

calibanX

I love the idea of the Fleetwood Greenbelt Jordan. I'm curious to see where it leads.

Battlecat: Thanks BC! Glad you like the transition, it is indeed part of the FLuPs mod ;D And yes, the evacuation zone the Americans had in place was very effective.

Tomas (Tomas Neto): Thanks Tomas! Glad you enjoyed the past year ;D

kassarc16: I sent you a PM ;D For everyone else, this thread is a great place to look ;D

Ioan (io_bg): Thanks Ioan! You'll see where the bike lane leads in a week or so, but for now, you can see what I got ready for the anniversary!

Robin (Rooker1): Thanks Robin!

Ryan (Haljackey): Thanks Ryan!

nbvc: Thanks! Glad you liked it!

Raphael (RickD): Thanks Raphael! Glad you enjoyed the various elements ;D

Scott (scott1969): Thanks Scott! I'm not using a street mod in that picture, could you be referring to the Ave-2 along the central road in the pic?

Kevin (Kevin1a): Thanks Kevin! Bicycles are encouraged for shorter distances, like 1-5 kilometres, so there are lots of greenbelts and greenways through Cascadia.

Geoff (calibanX): Thanks Geoff! You'll know next week or so ;D

Will (penguin007): Thanks Will! Glad you thought so ;D

Well, today is Cascadia's first anniversary! Hard to believe I've been updating for this long already ;D So for something different, I made a video recapping the last year, from Lakesyde to Surrey, from grown towns to plopped cities, from rural to urban. This was my first youtube video, and I can't figure out the BBCode for it :'( So I'm just gonna post the link, and you guys can watch it ;D You guys are why I keep updating, and if it wasn't for you, Cascadia would have evolved differently from what you guys all know. So thank you, and I look forward to another year's anniversary! Here's the video!

                 Your friend,
                                 Jordan

Congratulations on the 1st anniversary, Jordan.  &apls

Coming to that point means you definitely have left rookie state in MDing! ;) Which is confirmed by what you are showing - I like what you did with the Ave 2! :) Good work with the trails. Nice idea with the bridge even though it's abit short for that setup. Love the lake - are this diggis' replacement lots for PEG pond kit?

Take care my friend!

Bernhard

noahclem

Very nice Ave-2s and bike paths! Glenni's eyecandy bridge looks nice as does the on-slope street FLUP. Congrats on your 1-year anniversary

peter007

Congrats on your anniversary. I hope that many years will come in the future

Yan077

Happy birthday Jordan !
Go for another year of splendid updates
