Yes, that's right! If you've got a map of any kind, we'd like to see 'em! Subway maps, city maps, even hand-drawn maps...if you've made 'em, share 'em!
Here's some of my (quite old) hand-drawn work (I have to link them because they're rather large):
Map of Sea City (http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b99/JetWarrior/MapofSeaCity.jpg)
Map of Castilla Island (http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b99/JetWarrior/MapofCastillaIsland.jpg)
(Heh heh...if you look hard enough, you can tell in which game I first made Sea City ;D). Also, if you look closely enough, you can see that there's another map on the back of the Castilla Island one. That's a map of a town called Practice, so named because it's based off of the practice map of the original SimCity for Super Nintendo. I may show that one later...;))
And here's one map I've created from an SC3KU city (called Fordville)-
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb99%2FJetWarrior%2FSimCity%25204%2520Pics%2FMapofFordville.jpg&hash=2d58edb843c0a62fa40f02eac5ca5a2f5d2c68d6)
That will help guide me as I create this region in SC4 (called Condor Valley, which is where Fordville lies)-
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi17.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb99%2FJetWarrior%2FSimCity%25204%2520Pics%2FCondorValleyFull2.jpg&hash=81b86f4dd9de35578fedc5b8e702dc0c395454f6)
Willow Bay is basically the main body of water for my country, and it's the same large body of water in everything I've ever shown from SC4, including in this post. (P. S. I had a country map as well, but I've lost it.)
Alright, enough from me. Let's see your best stuff !
Hmm, should I? ;D
This map's of Brackenfell, Ensenada. Click on the thumbnail to enlarge.

Updated version. :P Now, that's a-bumped this topic back up to the top...
Awesome!
Awesome!!
Awesome!!!
Unbelievable map, SA! Really nice job!
(And for those who are wondering, the star at Fifteenth and Spring is a Police Station ;))
Oh, snap! Now I have to redo my maps again. ;D
You set the standards, SA! &apls
And the most impressive part is actually how much improvement that can be seen in that last map as compaired to the earlier ones. I didn't think it was possible for you to improve what I saw as pretty much perfect... I was wrong.
Damn SA thats an amazing map you made there

Everybody always finds ways to improve. I'm no different. ;)
Plus, I forgot some things in that map, and I'm working on the NW quadrant right now... :P
Fantastic looking maps, Masochist and SA!
are you using illustrator SA? if so, could you post a quick tutorial on how you go about making the maps? thanks!

Here's a massive hand drawn map I did for playing Dungeons and dragons. It's original size is 29"x29" in size and was a real pain to scan properly, so it doesn't exactly line up when piecing the parts together. The map is still unfinished and I've been working on it off and on for the past 7 years. I started with a pencil outline, then used various ink pens and Crayola markers to color in. I've yet to drop all the names I've created for this map, but do use ultra fine .001 tip ink pens to write in river names, towns and small bodies of water as small as newspaper text. I really wish I could turn this monster into a map for SC4.......
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg329.imageshack.us%2Fimg329%2F7638%2Fdragonspine02qq7.th.jpg&hash=1ef4a2d642690a2a5c04ca1c3e8d3b4ea905d114) (http://img329.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dragonspine02qq7.jpg)
that map is huge! if you are planning in doing this for sc4, count whit me if you want help in making this map ;) you know how i use to make maps ;D
You know, it is possible to import that into SC4.
The first thing you gotta keep in mind is the scale... choose one that you feel is appropriate, and stick to it. Second thing, just trace over what you've drawn in Photoshop, and work your magic!
It'll be a good project, converting it into SC4 :P
Unfortunately, I don't have any kind of imaging program except Paint and we all know how simplistic that is.....if that map was to be turned into a map for SC4, I think because of it's size, it would have to be done in sections, or the game would never be able to load it....it's just way to big.
Man that map is sooo wicked i cant wait to get ahold of it.....

You could always send me a copy of the map and I just trace it into a format that can be read by SC4Terraformer... then send it back to you for you to work your magic on it.
It'd probably have to be cut up into sections, yes...
Great maps! SA, yours always amaze me.
Here's a population density map I made for my city.

Ps. I just realized it says ass if you don't read it carefully.
Cool maps everyone! SA you probably know how much I love your ones so I'll keep shut... Blade, That monster of a map is quite amazing. I must put some of my hand drawn ones... I've got draws full of fantasy ones like that, street maps, transit maps... you name it!
Hey everyone, after my mid-sessional exams today, I decided I would get down to business and back to SC4. I'm going to start a new region, and I'm going to start by developing a massive airport. Of course, this airport had to be properly planned first so I started on this, it's not finished yet, but I have plenty of spare time atm (pic is a link to the fullsize 8000x7000 image):
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi7.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy251%2Ffreedo50%2FSC4D%2520Random%2FSchipolRecreationLayout_Un_Thb.gif&hash=0be9a5007b2b1ec132e5a6d5c16d13839f97a586) (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/freedo50/672098lRecreationLayout_Un.gif)
Brownie for anyone who can tell me which airport it's based on.

this is a somewhat crude map of my region of Bevelle:

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol ofcourse!
that's easy to tell ;)
i can also clearly see that's not finished. it misses big parts of the terminals, hangars and freight buildings.
Like to see it build ()stsfd()
Hey Tommiej, well done on that one, I should have guessed on of our resident Netherlanders would get it ;) The brownie's on it's way! I also have an update for you, I have no lectures this week (YAY) so, I have spent most of the rest of today finishing it off. Here it is (click for the full 7000*8000 pic):
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi7.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fy251%2Ffreedo50%2FSC4D%2520Random%2FSchipolRecreationLayout_Thb.png&hash=e5ebac0be5648500715b106468c6cc863170ce67) (http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/freedo50/SC4D%20Random/SchipolRecreationLayout.png)
I think it might take a while to build :)
Fred
Nice update on your map! it looks very nice and it's a really good representation of the real deal. I'm just missing the 'A5' highway that runs in between 18R and 19 in your map (18R and 18C in RL). it's a highway that was simultaneously build with the new, fifth runway 'The Polderbaan', to ease the traffic flow on the 'A4'. check google earth and you'll see what i mean. ;)
i also think that it cost a lot of time to build it! but it's worth the effort
Nice maps, though it came close to crashing my Firefox... LOL.
You got some nice maps there!... Espacially the Airport Maps and the Pop Density look great!
Here's one I drew quite some time back, and the project of that nation is for now cancelled...

Fixed it :)
Sorry about that SA, I didn't realise those images would cause problems, changed them to proper thumbnails now.
Tommiej: I don't think I'm gonna add that one in, although I don't know for certain. After all that planning I think I'm gonna let the rest of it just develop.
Fred
Much better, it won't crash or do unspeakable things to Firefox... LOL. :P
okay.. it's just for pure realism.. but without it's also going to be amazing!
looking forward for pics!
A quickie i made earlier in Illustrator. It's completely fictional, not even based on any of my cities. Still unfinished, obviously missing a ton of names, etc. The Purple and Yelow Lines are supposed to be GLR/E-rail so, that's why I simulated the tracks. Notice the GLR goes over the river and the subway lines go under it. It also indicates conncection to ferries and the airport express. in the future it will indicate heavy rail connections as well as Park 'n Ride stations. hopw you guys like it!

(By the way, mrtnrln, that's a really nice map, especially considering it's your first one!)
Ta, Masochist. :P

noticed the route numbers, is that a busway map?
from your experience did it actually work in the game, or did you do it for eye-candy?
Believe it or not, it did actually work... provided it was the quickest route. Sometimes the buses had a tendency to use the avenues that ran parallel to the busway in Greater Midlands, though.
In some of the busier sections, the busway is very well used. Especially over the Brackenfell-Southbank bridge (between Regal and Southbank :P) - that is most definitely the quickest way.
Most intersections are grade-separated, it's very rare that there are traffic lights on the route.
mrtnrln that is a wicked map!!! WOW!!!!!!!! SA you done it again, where you bored again lol.... Wicked mapping again and btw will we ever see a return of Whitefall per say??? Also what in the world does TA stand for lol....

It's a begininig of large Reden map.
pat: Ta as in "thanks". :P
I did that map last year... I just didn't get around to showing it here, that's all. We may see a return of Whitefall... maybe. :P But I will be looking for a challenge, though. Remember the Slope City experiment Jeroni did last year? I'll definitely be taking that a lot further here. :P
szymcar: That map's very nice. :P The only problem I have with it, though, is the big fat brown borders. ;)
Oh yeah, before I forget:

LoL SA TA... Nice map there and I guess that answers my other question too :D I do remember that challenge Jeroni did last year and I look forward to seeing you take it up...

Wow! How did you do that, M4346? That's Suberb!
Would've worked better if you had filled in that dark blue patch of water with the lighter blue, though. :P
But hey, that looks awesome.
mrtnrln, that was created from a montage of every single... freaking... tile... on that map. :P
I didn't fill it in because that would distort reality. :P
Aha! That's a lot of work.
I've created a map of an area I've been working on. It's not much, it's just single medium-tile, but anyway, it's a start ;)
That's the area:

Nice &apls &apls
How do you do these things ???
although it seems small and not much work, I'm betting that it is a lot of work
A really good map and wonderful work on that area there, szarkoz! Nice!

Wonderful work on these new maps there, @ both!! They are looking nice!
This thread has been neglected for too long.
This is the latest version of my Nyhaven MetroRail map. Click on it to view the full-size image. For those of you who follow my MD, this map is actually a window into the future: it includes additions to the NMR system that I won't show in updates for quite some time.

Decided to share the three maps I've made for quads in my region. The first quad map took me a while (lots of trial and error), but the other two came together a bit faster. I then put together a Region Overview map to which each of the three quads' maps is linked (and I can add more as I make them). The region overview map is 1280x1792, and comprised of 256x256 tiles, 5 wide by 7 high. The quad maps are linked to the completed tiles. Each quad's image is 2048x2304. Click the button below to be taken to the Region Overview map page (hosted externally). I'll post here and in my MD when updates to the region map and individual quad maps are posted!

Great map variation everyone!
I've been messing around on Inkscape...started off wanting to do a basic road map, then onto a little bit of terrain...then onto urban build up. This is what I ended up with...

If you click the image below for a larger version, you can see part of my city centre area. The map is 100% accurate to ingame, and covers 2 medium tiles and 2 small tiles (i am working on the missing lower left, before expanding the map). If you pay some attention to the underground map i posted recently, you'll see several stations on the map (Aneurin Court, Veneer Road, Kinightsbridge, etc)

It's certainly worth seeing full-size. I'm actually British and this is my first attempt at an American city so hopefuly someone can tell me if I've done a realistic job.
Done in the style of Google Maps it took 9 hours to complete to this level and since I haven't finished the city I haven't yet finished the map.
gingerblokey,
Not bad at all. Looks very "American". The only thing I would add is a couple of streets cutting through the city at some different angle. Most US cities have some street , road , avenue or highway that messes up the entire grid system. LOL
---Gaston
gingerblokey- very impressive work  i can't believe how realistic it looks i don't think you can get any more realistic as a typical american city. fantastic job!

That's the subway map for the above city.
Great map of your transit system gingerblokey
I only doubt if the non free transfer stations would work in real life. It seems that you can easily transfer for free if you take a few more stations ;)
There's one slight mistake in your map - the "D" in the circle next to Sheridan Place/11th Street should be an "E". :)
Very nice maps Gingerblokey. I think, however that you spelled Barack Obama wrong on your highway. Otherwise, that roadmap was AMAZING and the train line map was so realistic, could've been from a real city.

I've spent a while working on the T Trolly line in my American city since as it all runs on GLR-in road the game tends to crash a bit if you make a mistake. Anyway I got it finished and made this map for it.

Well, finally I've finished the Metro Mosman map. Actually is not finished, only the lines and station names are. It's still missing the "Key to lines" and some additional data on the leaflet, but as that has been a work of a lot of months, I want to show it now. Good job with your first map. I personally think that if you throw away the to scale part of the map, it could look better.
Really? Hmmm, I think I'll try that. :)

I'm still working on it. The western end of the green line is the airport.
I like it so far.... a lot. What program do you use, if you don't mind my asking.
I used Gimp to make the map. Paths Tool for the lines, and I copypasted the station circles.
The font is Metro DF, the one used for the Mexico City Subway.

Hi all. This is my first improvisation with Lake Onoke region (He was recently presented in LEX). This is variant of Russian development (maybe occupation?:) ) of the region in northern climate: Kazaki on horses, Fortresses and little villages.
The first map created in 1900. She displayed villages and the city-fortress Meglin. Second map is a satellite image, that imprinting in 1983 modern development of the region with the notation of the local infrastructure.

Hi!

Well, I'm not sure if I'm in the right place...
Recently I tried to map the region I come from: Oldenburger Münsterland (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldenburger_M%C3%BCnsterland), which consists of the District of Vechta and the District of Cloppenburg...
Since the whole region would be way to big for SC4, I decided to map the south-eastern part of it with SRTM data (that means almost the full District of Vechta and some parts of the District of Cloppenburg):
I still need to load the region, but I will say more towards the end of this post:

On the bottom right you can spot a small lake, the Dümmer (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%BCmmer).
Unfortunately I was not able to get it on my map, because the average depth is 1.5 meters.... causing the lake to be a flat area.
I'd love to release that map somehow, since it is my first scaled region ever, but I am not able to, if I don't get the Dümmer to appear... any suggestions?
Fabian :)
What about making the Dümmer a bit less shallow with SC4Terraformer, so it will show up in the map?

or loading the greyscale into photoshop, and lowering the white on the lake to make it deeper that way.

Concourse A is an International Terminal (one of the many).
Concourse B is also International but is only operated by American Airlines.
Concourse C is the regional terminal.
Lufthansa owns all of Concourse D.
Concourse E only handles flight within the US.
Concourse F is one of the unique terminals. It handles most of the Latin American flights.
Concourse G handles most of the Asian flights.
Concourse H is an all-European terminal.
Concourse I handles ALL African flights in the entire airport.
Concourse J is owned entirely by Quantas, which means it handles all Australian and most Oceanian flights.
Even though its not on here, Concourse K (In Terminal 2) is the cargo terminal.
Well, I'll be posting more soon!

My offering for you...needs a little bit more of a fiddle but on the whole it doesn't look to bad?
Decided to do a small referencal map of one of my citys local train line 2. This is actually my third transit map, but in my opinion the first good enough to share here ;D It's not a loop even though it starts and ends in the same place, it just does this U-type of movement :)

Nice simplistic map you have there Ciuu! So if you need to get from Rantarata to the airport, you have to transfer at Sinijavari Railway Station?

Yeah, but actually you should transfer to T2 as it goes much more closer to the airport than L2/L2A and runs much more frequently. ;D It's kinda weird that is goes the U-movement but as i basically merged two of my railways which both started from railway station and ended at the other side of the river it came to be like this. Perhaps it could also be a loop, have to think about it. :)

Another offering; yellow and grey seems to be the preferred choice of branding for the Bradford tram network. I may have to tweek the typeface for the "Bradford 1" Shopping Centre as it doesn't quite come out on a jpeg file.
EDIT: CIUU96: Just out of interest on your map, surely the line has a train running in both directions? If not then your network has some dead mileage unless the train ends up on the same platform it left... ??? Sorry...I take a railway module at uni &Thk/(

@CraigKingOfIreland:
Great map. Looks very clean. I am just a bit confused by your coloring of the station markings when two lines run parallel. When they only have the color of one line does that mean that only that one line stops there and the other one drives through?
For example, doesn't the blue line stop at Killbarack, Raheny, Harmonstown, ... (stations colored green, not blue)?

The green line in the DART, Dublin's electricfied urban commuter rail that stops at all stations. The blue line is the less frequent, outer suburban Commuter so only stops at several stations (the ones with white, black-bordered boxes) to allow transfers to the more local DART network. Both of these services run on the same heavy rail track as intercity trains (:
Ah ok, that makes sense. Thanks. :)
Sorry for the double post but I thought I'd show my transit map. My first one, by the way. I am still learning how to use Inkscape efficently.
This is the GLR network in my MD "Santa Barbara County":

Let me know what you think. :)
@RickD: Good for you first one (: Can I make a few suggestions though?
- Don't have the names of the GLR stops going over the SBlink line as they're both black and it's not very pleasing to the eye. Same with the dotted line around the centre of town.
- I think some of the other colours don't work great either. The main background is a bit strong, maybe lean a little more towards white on the spectrum? Also think the two lines might look better in slightly off-colour red and blue instead of the solid, strong ones you have now.
- Also not crazy on the black dotes for stations.
- Lastly, I think the names would be a bit confusing/overwhelming for passengers. I don't know what it's like in real cities with trams and roads numbered instead of named, but things like "N5 Ave/E5 St" seem a bit much for stop names to me.
Generally a pretty good job though (:

I've been working long and hard on a GoogleMaps styled map for my cities. I'm almost finished with my central city tile, please note it's still a WIP as I have yet to add the outlines on the streets. The height of the map is equivalent to one large city tile. I had to trim the width in order to fit 1024px. The scale at the bottom left is accurate.

I downloaded inkscape but I found it easier to use photoshop as I have experience with that, than try to learn inkscape! I couldn't even draw a straight line in inkscape
Thank you all your comments!
@riiga, I've tried making a "satellite" view by skewing the region pic, but the tall buildings kind of takeaway from the effect. I think that technique works well for rural/low density areas.
@SimRisu, I'm glad you like the map! There's still more work to be done... I'm somewhat of a perfectionist.
@thefunktopus, I also use Photoshop for my maps. I've tried using Illustrator and Inkscape, but I'm no good with them. I'm sure it would be easier if I knew the programs better, but at this point I also can't seem to draw a straight line.
@RickD, thanks for the comment, it never really occurred to me to mark the tunnels. I checked out Manhattan with Google Maps to see what they do. Here is what I came up with...

Selles...in Inkscape if you press the # key then the grid will appear. The line draw tool normally sticks to the grid, thus giving you straight lines!

That is an impressive map. And it is very well designed and structured. I am amazed at how much information you packed into it. It must have been difficult to arrange and group all the icons and texts so that they do not overlap.
The only issue I see is where when two mainlaines merge only one color continues. In the top right corner just east of Baldwin for example:
The blue line merges with the black line. On first glance it looks like the blue line would terminate there. But when checking the symbols on the following stations I can see that the "R" train actually continues. But on other parts of the map you use multiple lines.
It is not a big problem but I was a bit irritated by it.
That is an awesome map Swordmaster. It must have taken you quite awhile to get everything in place.

Thanks, sir. Very thoughtful comment there! The three colors represent three different rail companies owning the track, but they have trackage rights over most of each other's lines, too. So the commuter trains like the one you mentioned continue over the other company's lines. There's some different construction standards depending on the company. The red lines, for instance, are freight lines with minimal slopes. The blue lines, owned by the commuter railway, has much steeper slopes.
Cheers,

Thanks, sir. Very thoughtful comment there! The three colors represent three different rail companies owning the track, but they have trackage rights over most of each other's lines, too. So the commuter trains like the one you mentioned continue over the other company's lines. There's some different construction standards depending on the company. The red lines, for instance, are freight lines with minimal slopes. The blue lines, owned by the commuter railway, has much steeper slopes.
Cheers,
Willy
Ah, I see. This totally makes sense from an organizational point of view. I was reading the map from a passenger point of view. As a rider on the train I do not care who owns the track. I just want to see where my train goes. So this is just two different approaches to organizing the map.

This monstrosity is a planning map for my own use, not a map to be used by sims, but I decided to put it up. Light blue is water, brown is hilly areas, light green is parks, although the straight light green lines mark city tile borders. Darker blue is commercial, darker green is residential, and dark gold/brown is industrial. Orange is, as you can probably tell, freeway, yellow is main arterals, and black is all other streets.
Over the years of Paradise having a cj, I've drawn a lot of maps, trying to plan the capital. Recently I decided to see what these routes would look all together, so I made this. The black dotted lines are tile boundaries, for an idea of the scale of the plans.

The first proposal for the future highway system in my region "Empire Bay":

SH = Simnation Highway
ER = Empire Route
dotted lines = ferry connection
Regional road planning... nice ;D
But do all roads go underwater? Do those dashed lines show tunnels?
Those dashed lines mean a ferry connection. ;)
Nice map, Rick!
Whack!... I see now :D Quite a lot of them.

Yep, it is inspired by trip through Norway last year. There are also a lot of ferry connections.
They will get upgraded to bridges or tunnels when the region grows.
Great maps guys &apls
@Swordmaster: That map looked like it took a very long time to create. Great job
Hes about a fourth of my city's full subway system. A larger map is coming later and this part of my city has the highest concentration of Subways.

That subway system is amazing Josh.
Here is a map of my American CJ region, Ignore the bird part, it's an inside joke :P

Hoping this comes out ok!
Nothing of what you see has been built yet...
Very nice and clean map. I like the separate map for the city centre.
Great map wallasey &apls Supermetro....does that mean something other than Featherstall's usual buses? I look forward to seeing how the area develops
Thanks both!
I prefer to try and keep public transport maps as clean as possible, if only to make a network look simple to navigate around if one is unfamiliar with the system in place!
Rick, I almost added a panel advising which station is best for getting to central attractions like museums, art galleries and shopping centres, following the Sheffield principle on its maps.
Noahclem, thanks mate! I was aiming to be ingenuitive by merging the name of the tram systems in Birmingham and Manchester (Metro / Metrolink) with that of Sheffield (Supertram)...I hope it works!
As far as a bus system is concerned, I may look into replicating this (http://www.networkwestmidlands.com/web/FILES/BrieleyHill.pdf) once everything PC wise is back to normal! Having a few technical issues at the moment which means I can't build anything!
I'll keep you posted!
wallasey: Great map!
Heres another map in my city. This system is smaller than ATTA.
This map is inspired by alittle bit of the PATCO and the PATH

Nice maps everyone.
Josh, are you a professional? Those maps are looking too good. &apls
Cheers
Willy
Josh6: Very professional and clean looking! :)
Here's one from me: It's my MD region's highway expansion plan, referred to as HDHIP.

Construction has begun on Hwy. 82 - experimenting with FARHW.
sim_link: Thanks! Nice map, I'm really digging how you made that logo
Swordmaster: Haha Thanks! I wish I got paid for this
By the way, I finished the other map. You can see it here

Josh: Do you have another link? That one leads to an awfully small pic.
Did I show this one here? Guess not...

As the image is 20,000 pixels long, I would suggest caution on clicking that link.

That is one very cool diagram. Especially the interchanges with the other freeways are quite something. You tempt me to go over at ST and look at your CJ.
Cheers
Willy
Willy: Thanks! I plan on doing all the major freeways eventually. I encourage you to come over, I won't bite. :P
I can't yet compete with the awesome maps shown here lately. But I am working on it. :P

A Google style street map of my MD's central tile.
RickD: I think your MD is ideal for making such a map ::) Lots of details, interesting planning method, a nice historical touch... I might reuse some of your tricks if you don't mind ;)
I use this map for a little project of mine: combining different medium-sized regions into one large area:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdl.dropbox.com%2Fu%2F6697138%2FSC4%2F20120820_land-02.png&hash=398c226bdbccade57f2706cdba5d1fbdbb4607f1) (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6697138/SC4/20120820_land-02.png)
The idea is that the remote area Achterland, part of a (Dutch-speaking - hence those names) country so far called "Simland", consists of the following regions:
- Groot-Azedam (16x21), the metropolitan area of the provincial capital Azedam (currently housing a modest ~600.000 inhabitants);
- Goudkust (16x16), a Riviera-ish gulf coast (yet to be developed);
- Greddal (16x20), the sparsely populated valley of a river that will get industrialised eventually (under construction);
- Vallin, a ski resort region (yet to be made - no idea where I should begin ::)).
Two countries are neighbouring: "Ausland" and "Anderland"
These regions share city tiles at their borders. When these tiles are copied and pasted from region folder to region folder (using the exact same city names), tiles in one region can get updated according to developments in neighbouring regions. These overviews could give you an idea of how it works:
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdl.dropbox.com%2Fu%2F6697138%2FSC4%2F20120811_Achterland-02.png&hash=222f4664398bfa3fbe7cb4d77f2c4dd01c657d46) (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6697138/SC4/20120811_Achterland-02.png) (https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdl.dropbox.com%2Fu%2F6697138%2FSC4%2Finpassing_goudkust_plat.png&hash=62ac8a08b4b426ac57dc35e5769244732d3153bd) (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6697138/SC4/inpassing_goudkust_plat.png)
Yes, I use complex city sizes ;)
Other neighbouring regions/provinces could be added, even regions made by others, although agreements have to be made on who plays which border city. Although the terraforming has been a nerve-wrecking hobby... ???
Very interesting concept! I don't think I've seen that before.
Cheers
Willy
That is an amazing project! Would you be able to keep us updated on your progress? It would be interesting to see how the various tiles and regions interact with each other!
Awesome concept up there &apls
Heres my city's Regional Rail map (ATTA). Its not finished but I'm just uploading it now because I don't know how much time I'll get to work on it with school and all.

great map! &apls
Thank you guys! And I like the NYC style of your map,
josh6! Did I spot that right? ;)

I have considered starting a journal about this project, though I would not frequently update the story due to my busy study programme. However, I could use this topic, and/or the "Show us your region" thread, to give some updates sometimes... I try to let the regions develop 'naturally', which takes some time...
I will keep you updated as soon as I am making any progress! ;) One fun aspect of the concept is that others could join the project by merging new regions, however, it may be far too soon for such experiments... I like to keep having the overview on terraforming and culture and such ::)
Nice maps you all have made. Just a couple questions
1. Which programs did you use to create the maps?
2. How do you get them to post on this website?
I might have asked this awhile back and can not find the answer I was given. It might have been on Simtropolis or on SC4Devotions don't remember which one sorry.
Deanva, have a look at both Inkscape and GIMP. The former is a vector-based editor, the latter is raster-based. These are used most often because they're free and decent.
As for posting here, you need to upload your image to an external hosting site like photobucket, and then link the address of the picture back here between the [ img ] [/ img ] tags.
Cheers
Willy
Thanks Swordmaster.
Still a work in progress. Making a map of the fictional city of Portsmouth using OCAD.

Awesome!!! You can make that (almost) an exact reality in cities xl!!!
Eh I've been lurking too long. I made a skewed, almost-true-to-scale map, which is unusual for me, because I usually stylize them. If you look at the names, you can probably guess the city of inspiration. ;)

Welcome to Varadenna City.
This is my map of public transport.
Sweet maps cookies & Lucky99 ! &apls
And you both do realize this makes us want to see pics of the actual cities and/or regions, right?! ;)
Thanks! The city and region isn't as complete as I'd like, but I may make a map of the commuter rail/national rail system.
Just a small map I did quickly this afternoon. It shows the two subway lines (Red and Green) and the suburban railway line. (blue)
Double post... ::)
As I finished my region (updates incoming, of course) I decided to try making a map of the transport and principal infrastructures. It's far from finished yet, I'll add things like parks, police station, hospitals, schools ect. For the moment only roads, railways, subways, the airport, elevation levels and water are done.
Here it is (well partially)! This is usually what I do; remove most non straight lines, simplify geometry, and keep the focus on mapping the Rail System, not necessarily the terrain.

Resized the picture. Arthur/Moderator
Great map! Though we definitely need actual game pics for reference. :P
Your map is good too Arthur, looking forward to the finished version. :)
I'll oblige a little, here's a snapshot of a part of Baskerville Downtown and nearby neighborhoods. The loop portion of the Rapid on the map posted earlier serves Downtown, which is very dense, hence the need for the Rapid loop. There's actually a streetcar service to serve a new waterfront development that I have to add to the map now.
I'll probably update that map and make one for the highway system, too, eventually. :p
(https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FkfivOVW.png&hash=1b24f9afa7ded6858a8da2c9a0d7c2ccae190640)
Ok so this is actually the Metro map for a CitiesXL city of mine, but eh, here it is:

It's very stylized, more so than many of my maps.
