U for me. although the o looks good to

First, let me say that the development so far is great. I'm not sure if dorm life is having any effect (or what dorm life actually means aside from living at the college) but it looks like you're keeping up with both pretty well so far. I don't recall having seen you do an O-shaped building yet, so that might be good for something new, but I have never really liked that look personally (like that's a reason to knock a style) even though it has been used by a number of buildings. The U-shape would get my vote but I'll be interested to see which way you go with it. Make those monkeys earn their keep. Take it easy.

Leo:  Thanks dude!  I'll keep an eye out for you...

Pat Riot:  Thanks for your opinion!

Matt:  Thank you!  Dorm life just means that it is my temporary home now instead of the hotel.  It didn't really change much of anything though.  I haven't done an O shaped building... and I'm still considering it, despite what this update may look like.

Mightygoose:  Thanks for the vote!  I agree with your reasoning, and it is a compelling reason to go that route... I'm just still not sure if it's the right look for this one or not.

Pat:  Thanks... you're no help whatsoever!   :D  (That is completely untrue... but I think you'd start to worry if I didn't pick every now and then...)

Well, so far I'm sticking with the U shape... although that honestly doesn't mean much just yet.  I spent a LOT of time just sorting out the circular stairwell, which I thought was just such a great feature on this building.  Unfortunately, much of the detail gets lost at this size, but I still like the look of it.  I also roughed in the interior light well, just to get an idea of the layout.

At this point, I'm still not completely sure that I'll end up with the U... despite how it looks right now.  Keeping the O shape really wouldn't cut off much of that stairwell anyway... and it would save a lot of modeling for other areas.  It would also be truer to the real building... so it still might end up that way.  I guess I'll know for sure when I start putting that back wall together! ;)

Wow such improvements  &apls

You have been busy and personally I'd prefer the O in stead of th U.
As you say you would still have some of the details.
Either way it will fit in well whatever you choose

Maybe throw a sunroof on it like its a lobby? Or you can call an audible on the whole building and say that its a hotel, then throw a pool in there, or the sunroof over a pool (A hotel I stayed at in Chicago had an indoor pool like that).

Maybe two versions of the building? The O and the U? Anyways, it looks great, and with summer coming up, I'll actually be able to use your great work! By the by, who said you could use dude, dude? Dude is my thing, my schtick as Dangerfield would say. No respect I tell ya', no respect. Later . . . dude . . .

Or, you could be really brave, and make a half blown up wall  :D It looks great, if your looking for a different design you could always do a U-O hybrid, with the first 5 floors being O and the last 5 being U. Its your call (with lynn doyle" on CNN)

How about a really long o shaped building, that has the entrance duplicated on the center of each facade.  It would probably be something like a 3x6/6x3.  You'd be able to see more of the light court, but would still not need to model that blue roof.

Also, three tiles deep can be a strange block to zone.  You'd have to have 1x1s and 1x2s on the rest of the block, and it probably wouldn't form a good looking wall to wall street wall.  With a 6x3/3x6, it would take up the entire block, and you wouldn't have that problem.  The facade could potentially be too busy, but I think that would depend on how it looks after it's textured.

Either way, the building is looking really good so far.  :)

How about something like this?

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it

Pat

Lee did you whip that up or did you just merely photoshop it???  Jon you know what that is soo very true there and I was beginning to wonder what has happening lol... It does look good but I stinks Lee might be unto sumtin there???

Hi! Great work you are doing here.
I have a questions wonder if you may help me...
The issues concerns the LOT of your SWAN Majestic building/lot (CS$$$8_6x3_The Swan Majestic.SC4Lot)
For some reason I don't get the normal query window for 6x3 Grow lot When I hover the query tool over it I do have normal brief description, but once I click on it nothing happens.
I've opened the lot in iLive Reader, but I just don't know what should be done to fix this problem. The Lot Exemplar does seem to have Query Exemplar in it...
From what I can see this is a CAMeLot - it has Cam occupant groups in there...

M4346

If it is a CAMeLOT you will need the CAM Essentials for the queries to show up. Do you have them? I believe they are included in the latest editions of the BSC Essential Files -> Click!

Well, I've got it working.
And to be honest am a bit upset over the entire ordeal.
To get query window working I had to download the 5Mb (6,21mb in Plugin folder) prop pack, despite the fact that I don't need anything else from there. I think it is a bit excessive.

Also when I finally got the coveted query window to work here is what I saw:

tell me if that is a reasonable way of presenting information?
The buildings are excellent (both Swan and particularly Citizen, although I think night lighting isn't on the level of modeling there) but the query window and push of the rather fat dependency package that basically contain no true dependencies is a bit upsetting...

I hope you woldn't take this as a personal or any other attack... but I think it is an issue worth looking into...

callagrafx

Please, please, please do not start another tirade against dependencies...the BSC essentials file is required by nearly all BSC uploads, so it's hardly a worthless download for the vast majority who use BSC work on a regular basis.  If everyone were to include all query graphics in their uploads, their files would be even bigger and the combination thereof would be much much bigger...by sharing a common file it keeps the plugin folder size down and easier to manage, especially when the Essentials file is updated.

This thread's being watched and any spiral towards a flamefest aimed at CAM or dependencies will be dealt in the appropriate manner  %BUd%
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it

You can probably open the the files in iLive and start deleting things.  There's also a query tutorial around here somewhere (I think it might be on the LEX) that would teach you how to delete what you want removed.  It would also teach you how to revert the entire query back to one of Maxises standard ones which would actually be very easy.  It could also mean the elimination of that dependency all together.

SimFox

Jason:
Well, I have found out the process (reverting to Maxis default query) by myself already. Downloading huge dependency file and then spending tons of time deleting content from it - it is kind off silly, don't you think so? I just don't understand the proinciple of putting together some of the packs. And seriously doubt the need of huge varieties of most of the props.

Cal:
Goodness Gracious Me! Will you ever learn to read message before starting writing angry reply?
Where did I mentioned the BSC Essentials. So let's just drop it. Anyway I wasn't really asking you, my question was addressed to JBSimio. If you don't even care to read message why do you bother to write?

I believe the policy is straight and simple: if you don't like it, don't download it or modify it yourself -MOD EDIT-. All content here is released, as far as I know, on a take it as is or leave it basis.

I think this is quite uncalled for and the BSC dependency debate has been worn by now.

Although I may agree, lets keep this civil by not adding comments we dont need to see on this site. - JP
