I was checking all NAM bridges recently and I think there is something that all bridge makers should keep in mind.

SimCity4 displays models differently on bridges than on lots.  If you do not want your bridge models to look pale and washed out, you should make all your textures about 30% darker, than the textures you use for lot models.

Very beautiful bridge there...

May I ask that is there any way to build double bridge for trains or road?
E.g:

-gardenwong: As I recall, there has been some research done on this. Visually, there is little problem with it. The problem seems to be that the network gets congested too quickly. Though there have been some developments in multi-transit tiles, I'm not sure if any further research has gone into the bridge part of things. Jeronij has released the TsingMa bridge which was designed for cars and trains on the same bridge, but I believe it only works for road at the moment. I know some people around here may be better able to answer your question, but that is what I know so far. You can check out this thread at ST. It discusses what all went into the project. A number of the pictures seem to be missing, but it still is full of good information. I hope that answered your question.

As far as I'm aware (but I'm not positive) the only way to get bridges directly next to each other is to have them on a lot. This was the technique behind the diagonal bridges if I remember. I could be wrong though, so I hope someone with more knowledge about that might be able to offer some insight. I'll keep lookinng into it though.

here is a preview of a bridge ive been working on today. textures arn't final.
feedback and any ideas are welcomed  :)

The overall design is very nice  .
Technically, the pylons should extend as long as possible to the -Z axis. The bridge should allow as much as possible depth between its start and its end. Also, dont forget about the start /end piece  ;D  ;)

It looks like you're off to a great start. As Jeronij already mentioned, extend the base of the pillars a bit to account for its use on a higher span. Otherwise you can use the game base, but that might not look as good. I think a more definative start/end piece would work well here. Let us know when you get ready to put this in-game and we'll work with some IDs for you.

Bighead99, that looks very good!   As Jeroni said, the support pylons need to go down much more.   I suggest that they go down at least 100m.   Some of the Maxis bridge pylons go down more than 700m.   They need to go down this far because they will be visible if the bridge is built far above the level of the water or if it is on land.

The end piece should also go down a similar distance.

progress...

i'm comtemplating adding a wider arch in the middle. originaly i'd planned to have the starter piece with a graident.
any suggestions?

thanks for the replys. and i will add around 100m to the depth.
i also noticed a slight texture glitch when i rotated the starter piece.

there is one small difference between the two pics. what is it?

JoeST

very nice looking bridge there :)

couldnt spot the difference tho :( lol

Progress looks pretty good there. As far as the difference between the pics goes, it looks like that second support on the right hangs down a bit more in the 2nd pic than the 1st (but that may just be my eyes playingn tricks). It looks like you are getting there. Let us know when you add that extra depth and when you think you are ready to start modding it, and we'll look into some IDs.

That looks really good, bighead99. Try to adjust the UVW Map, so that bricks gets bigger.

superhands

well, i'd say the bridge is just about completed.

That bridge looks awesome.

Heh, that looks great, love the texturing job.  Particularly the start piece supports(it's a shame we'll never see most of that in game &mmm).  On the two pics above it looks like some or all the textures are lighter in the second one?

Also I noticed that you were able to mirror the starter pieces by the looks of the textures, are you modeling it in Max?

bat

Really nice work on that bridge there, bighead99!
It's looking wonderful!
