Happy first anniversary, Paul!

And what a wonderful video to celebrate it, my friend! And, it seems that, by no means, is "the ride" over!

Can't wait to see what your second year has in store for us!

Take care!

And what a ride it is, Paul! Omigosh, so many memories and so many favorites here. Each video is better than the last, and the last one was hard to top but you did it! Now I have an anniversary video to come back and watch again and again.

Later...

Wow, Paul! Now that is a perfect example of how much someone can improve, even when they are already great! I seem to have come to West End at the perfect time, because I now know what I've missed. It seems I have a Diary to read this upcoming weekend...!

JBSimio

Incredible video, Paul!     &apls   Happy Anniversary and all that other good stuff, too.  It has indeed been a great ride so far.  I'd ask if we're there yet, but I'd prefer to keep riding for a bit longer if it's all the same to you.  ;)

Once again, I missed a few updates... but I've been instructed not to apologize for that anymore, so I won't.  I really like how Dean came together.  It blends in very well with the surrounding areas.  I also like the region views a lot.  I'm very impressed with the constant back and forth from urban areas into farm land.  It makes for a very interesting look.

I'll be waiting for the next one (I think I finally have the time to do that again for a while!)

Dean is just great.
I always love to do little towns and all. You can micromanage it much more than a larger city, however the later has its beauty too.
There is nothing special in Dean and this is the best of it. Only the Qumma River ending there. Two bridges and the town.

Looks average, average West End town, and average here means a lot, as I think creating an average small town which looks definitely great is definitely hard to be done too.

Happy 1st anniversary my friend. The video was an excellent trip back in time. It really shows how your style has changed and developed and it looks good. Congratulations on your first year, and here's to (hopefully) many more to come.

I sure did enjoy the ride.  It was great to see some of the places that I missed out on first time round.  And who is that song by?  Great music.

Looking forward to the next 12 months.

That video is excellent, paroch! Congrats on one year of WEST END! &apls
Looking forward to more in the second year of WEST END!! ;)

Can't remember if I've ever posted here, but I should start! I like the village of Dean; it has a quaint, cozy feel to it. The transition from plop water to in-game water is fantastic; that must've taken quite a bit of time and patience. Very nice work!

You mean it's been one year since I started to teach you (well tried) that the world was flat  $%Grinno$%

You've come a long way in 12mths Paul, and it's been a pleasure to be along for the ride. West End started well and just got better and better as time progressed. Turning Dutch was one of your finest moments, the use of custom content and canal work really stood out.

And as well as West End, you discovered LE, released on the LEX and co-founded a team. Quite a journey over such a short period.

What is next, perhaps BAT. Learning on a laptop in a pub with a pint in hand should make that a challenge and a half  ;D

And that footy pitch in the last update, punishment for a year of nagging  :D

Cheers my friend

OK, replies from the last two updates here.... Dean and the Anniversary video.

Maarten x 2:  Hehehe, yes, indeed!  And thanks for your support.

Bat
x2:  Thanks for the compliment.  And thanks for being such a big supporter of West End.

Piotr:  Welcome to West End - you arrived just in time for the first anniversary.  Yes, I think Dean has high property prices, especially by the river.

Schulmanator:  Thanks - and as for taking lessons, my approach is very much "try it and see what happens".

Arthur x2:  Thank you, and yes, I like the river too!  And I'm happy you liked the video.

SixCents:  Good to see you over here.  And thanks for the big compliment - thanks.

Bernhard
:  Great comments thank.  As for the TPW, I think the key to making it look good is to use plenty of rocks, trees, grass, flora etc around the edges.  And yes I'd not used the wooden bridge before.  And I know you are right about the railway and the "dip".  I think you are basing your smooth rails on the German railways and not the English ones  ;)

Pat:  Cheers my friend.  I'm glad you enjoyed the development.

Albus x2:  Welcome to West End.  Hey with great comments like that you can drop in anytime!!

Matt
x2:  Thanks as always.  Yes, John Lewis is a department store.  I'm sure it's a gascooker bat.  I guess the conditions were just right for it.  I appreciated your comments re the TPW - I use the Brigantine water mod, and needless to say will not be changing it now!  And yes, with the breakwater, I did think of making a little marina behind it - but chose not to in the end.  And I have a feeling there is at least a year's worth of development left in West End.  Whether it will all be up to display standards remains to be seen.

Joan
x2:  Your comment "a break from complex quads" was just how I felt with Dean.  Following Kingly and Charing Cross it was somewhat less demanding!  And thanks for the compliment about the video.  Funnily the very first one (Kingly and Amsterdam) is still my favourite!

Sebes
x2:  Well, I guess I should take your jealousy as a compliment!  The more I develop West End, the more conscious I am of the region view.  I hope to make it a really good one.  And thanks for your comments on the video.  I have a feeling there will be more for you to watch in future.

Shaun x2:  Ha.  Yes well I guess I should blame MattB about those pools!  I think maybe the pools have less weed in them!  As for the video song....yet another one by Morcheeba, called Enjoy The Ride.  Their music fits so well for videos - used three now!

Dave x2:  When I placed that footie pitch I knew you'd comment!  It was a play off between messing up the river bank or levelling a large area.  But as I tell you, West End, is just built on undulating terrain, the locals are used to the humps and bumps now!!  And trust you to post after I'd made the video but before I realeased it, so that the numbers were just one out!!  And yes, you've been trying to flatten me for 12 months!!  Thnaks for being one of the posters who have been here for the whole time.  And yes, there have been some stand-outs during the year - I think you got most of them.

Dustin:  Thanks.  I have to admit, the second year is a bit daunting.  I really don't want West End to get too samey.  Trying to decide what to do next is not easy!

Jon
:  Hehehe, great to see you here.  Thanks for the comments and when I get a compliment about region view from the man who created Covington then I am happy.

Krizstian
:  Hey thanks, I appreciate those words - I know exactly what you mean.

David
:  Thank you.

Dan:  Welcome to West End, good to see you here.  The TPW doesn't take as long as you might imagine.  Just the odd change as you go along.

Paul:  Thank you, it's always good to see you here - I know RL can make it difficult at times.

OK, after all that..... Time for the update.  Not a very big one today, but a sporty one!

It's time to announce another West End sporting event.  Much like the Devo 08 football tournament mirrored the real life Euro 08 tournament, I'd like to invite you all to participate in the Continental Cup:

This is a golf competition that will mirror the real life Ryder Cup that is due to take place from 19th to 21st September this year.  For those that don't know, it is a golf competition between Europe and the USA.  Here at West End it is open to all MD authors.  You can chose which team to be on, Europe or USA.  I'd suggest that if your MD is based in Europe you join the European side and if your MD is based in North America you join the USA side.  All other MDs - well just take your pick.

Each team is made up of 12 golfers.  I'm really not sure how popular this will be, so each MD can have up to three golfers in the team.  Just let me know which golfers represent your MD.  I'll operate it on a first come first served basis.

The event will take place at the Piccadilly Links Golf Club in Piccadilly, West End.

The teams are made up as follows:

Europe                                      USA
Paul Casey  (West End)                  Phil Mickelson
Sergio Garcia                                Stewart Cink
Soren Hansen                               Kenny Perry
Padraig Harrington                         Jim Furyk
Miguel Angel Jiminez                      Anthony Kim
Robert Karlsson                            Justin Leonard
Graeme McDowell                          Ben Curtis
Ian Poulter                                   Boo Weekley
Justin Rose                                  Chad Campbell
Henrik Stenson                             J.B.Holmes
Lee Westwood  (West End)            Hunter Mahan
Oliver Wilson                                Steve Stricker

So, if you'd like to participate in the Continental Cup, just post here and say which golfers you'd like to represent your region/nation.  You'll see West End has already got two golfers in the list.

And the other sports news from West End is that the national rugby team have applied for entry to the Sim Sports 12 Nations Competition.  Here are some pics of the rugby stadium.

The stadium is based in the Piccanham suburb of Piccadilly.

Rugby is not as high profile as football in West End, so the stadium does not have the same level of funding available to it.  This ground holds 8,250 and is made using mainly Chris Adams great props he recently released - thanks Chris if you're reading.

And here is an overview of Piccadilly as it stands.  As you can see it is a very sports oriented city.

Well, I hope you enjoyed this sporty update and I hope you enter a golfer or two or three in the Continental Cup.  Needless to say I'll be giving updates over the weekend of the competition.

'til next time............. $%Grinno$% $%Grinno$% $%Grinno$%

Wow, 10th on the list and only started commenting in Kingsly.  Guess I must talk too much.  ::)

Let me know if you need some golfers, I'm sure some of the european team have ties to Watersford.  They've got a good resort to practice at there.

Looking forward to taking you on in the Rugby.  Will be a tough match against the All Blacks.

JBSimio

A very sports oriented city, indeed... it looks great so far!   &apls  I really like the placement of the golf course along the water there.  I'm also intrigued by the industrial area smack in the middle.  I imagine you'll be showing more of that later?  (I hope anyway...  :) )  The various arenas and sport complexes seem to be clustered in some attractive groups, and yet still spread around quite nicely.

Covington would love to participate for Team USA in the Continental Cup.  I'm not entirely sure how they would fare, given the fact that there is no course on which to practice anywhere in the entire county!  In fact, the esteemed, albeit poorly dressed, mayor of Covington doesn't even know enough about the sport to make an intelligent decision about which players to send.  If you don't mind picking one or two for him, I have it on good authority that he won't argue.  I think he just wants to feel like he's part of something anyway.  ;)

I also notice you've been toying with a few new goodies in Piccadilly!   :o  I'm really looking forward to more of the area to see what you've come up with.  I trust there haven't been any problems so far?

Perhaps I should start talking a little more... but I'll do that next time!  :D

Since I last played golf at age 13 and have no idea how rugby or Euro football is played, I'm at a bit of a loss to comment this time around. I can see the various facilities are well placed, though, and I appreciate the overview as a way to find my way around town. Hope you'll understand if I dip a fishhook in the bay instead of watching the games though - where I come from, fishing is a very popular sport you know!

Good luck in the tourney...

Put the United "Stats" of SC4D for the Continental Cup, too!

Do we pick our own golfers or is it random?

EDIT: Hey, Paul! Put me down for Phil Mickelson (left-handed like me) and Jim Furyk (from Pennsylvania like me)!
