Let's start teasing again, aye?

Highsbury Perivale has been growing exponentially, and is already fully built, which means that soon enough, a new quad will be showcased...

Thanks to Matt (threestooges), who converted the FSHs to PNGs, I was able to convert the GLR-in-Road transport textures to lot textures, and make some GLR-in-Road stations from them, for personal use (until SFBT comes up with an update of that the GLR Assortment  ::)).

Oh god, I can't believe I took the 600th reply for my own.. Good thing is that saves me from making more presents  :D

art128: Thanks for your comment, I have tried to add walls to the sunken railroad, but it didn't look very convincing, a little repetitive even.
bat:Hehe, I'm glad you noticed.. There's been more than 15 updates, but those were primarily from Chilcombe and Pitcairn. Thanks!
Sheep49: Thanks, I have to admit I can develop a city quite easily, but that is mainly due to the easy terrain (completely flat) and not having a lot of growing plugins, which thus cause me not to have to demolish plugins that I don't like in that setting.
mrtnrln: Thanks, I agree that it is pretty similar to all Highsbury Tiles, but you have to see them all as one big urban area, which would then explain the similarities.
Haljackey: Thanks alot!

I have lately backed-up every page of the MD so far, not because I am expecting a hack of some sort to happen, but it is always good to have something to rely on when things do go wrong. I think that I would like to stress to every Mayor Diary author, especially for those with an MD with more than 100 replies, to do this.

I have had a request from someone asking if I would perhaps open up my Mayor Diary as a City Journal at Simtropolis. However, I am debating about doing that, and currently I do not see more pro's than con's, but I would like to hear your opinion regarding this.

History of Highsbury
Highsbury is a relatively new country, founded in 1983, when a group of rich entrepreneurs bought a quarter of Belgium from it's government, dreaming of setting up an atheist community with only peaceful inhabitants. These four entrepreneurs; Alan Parker, James Garfield, Thomas Villanova and Gösta Adrian-Nilsson; decided to write out the constitution themselves, with some help from various lawyers and politicians from abroad. The constitution took a few years to create, while in the meanwhile all signs of civilization within the new-bought land was under the process of demolishing. They largely based the constitution on the Codex Theodosianus, a compilation of the laws of the Roman Empire under the Christian emperors since 312. While the lawyers and politicians found this a ridiculous idea, all four entrepreneurs agreed with it, and decided to give it a lot of liberal content. They went with some fairly controversial laws as well, for example the Third Inheritance Law, which said that every landowning larger then 3000 square meters will be automatically given to the Highsburian Government when it's owner dies. However, when a building is placed on this land, all land still goes to the Government, except for land at a maximum of 50 meters encircling the building. The Second Expropriation Proclamation also dictated that, all land that is expropriated from it's citizens with the reason to build necessary transportation equipment would not need to be payed-back by the government in any way, while, when expropriated for the development of new housing, or anything not related to transportation, every single penny that the land and building is worth is to be payed back completely. They also wrote into the constitution that nothing related to army are defense, nor guns were allowed anywhere within the country, and would ask the United States for permanent protection, in exchange for cash and support in the NATO.

Around 1990, Thomas Villanova died of typhoid fever, a relatively rare disease in Northern Europe, but scientists think that he got the illness on one of his trips to Central Africa. Soon enough, the remaining entrepreneurs now all had a larger share in the power over Highsbury, but this was not good enough for either of them, since they all wanted to reign over Highsbury on their own. During this period, Highsbury saw an immense growth in population, and is now about equaling the population of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. It was in 1994 that the Transport Committee was inaugurated, which goal is to make the Spartacusplan, the Committee's Vision of the Future for Highsbury between 2007 and 2020, which attempts to draw out big improvement of the mass transit throughout Highsbury. 89 extra kilometers of double-tracked railway, 20 more bus connections and around 40 kilometers of new Ground Light Rail. With this amount of changes, the Committee hopes to double the amount of daily users of Highsbury Mass Transit. It is expected to cost of 430 million euros, and can only be realized if other partners, for example Belgium and France, but also local businesses and factories, help to fund it. The Neptune Plan is also one of the Committee's main subjects, being the laying and extension of Highways, Avenues and Waterways, which is planned for the A3, A4 and E313, but also the Villanova Memorial Canal, that is still in the planning stages. The Committee has gotten carte-blanche for both plans, meaning that they can spend as much money as needed, and can expropriate as many civilians as they wish to, and can start building directly (the fact that Alan Parker is chairman of the Committee helps this...).

However, in 2003, Gösta Adrian-Nilsson died of cancer at the age of 57, and only Alan Parker and James Garfield remained leading Highsbury. Not very long after that, in May 2004, James Garfield was shot on a business trip to Barcelona, Spain, which made Alan Parker, now both Sole Leader of Highsbury and Chairman of the Transport Committee, the only leader in Highsbury.. and he was about to make some radical changes....

Update 16: Highsbury Osterley
I hope you liked the History of Highsbury (in case you skipped it, please read it :P). For those who have read it already, here's today's update; in which we will visit one of Highsbury's more rural settings, namely Highsbury Osterley.

Osterley County is divided into two smaller cities, divided by the E13. You are currently looking at Finchley. You can here see Osterley's main power source, three windmills. There are plans to replace these old and quite small windmills by larger and more adequate ones, but most of the cash is currently flowing towards laying the R1 (Ringway One), that encircles the main Highsbury Counties.

Secondly, there is also Beckton, which, by population is a tad smaller. It's population is mainly made up by retired workmen from Highsbury Perivale. It is said that Thomas Villanova (see History) once resided in this village.

The road connection both towns (N433) overpasses and interchanges with the E13. Since the E13 is currently heavily used by tourists from the Netherlands and Germany on their way to France or Spain, there are plans to build a large toll gate near this overpass.

Close-up in Finchley.

Close-up in Beckton.

The Osterley Station is a relatively small, yet heavily used, station, primarily for Inter City Transport. This is also the main station for people wanting to go shopping in the City.

The train runs perpendicular to the E13.

That concludes this update. While I have to agree, there's not really an abundance of pictures, but I've you've read the History, you probably spent awhile here. Don't forget to reply, as it's always appreciated.

By the way, I hope my writing skills aren't that bad in the History section...

After reading this, I can say one thing for sure, Casper.  This is much better than "not that bad," Casper.  It's great!     That RHW is v.21, isn't it?
Find my power line BAT thread here.

Nice update!

History part:
Nice story! I like how you've put the names of real life people into your fictional piece of literature. ;) Some nice things you've put there, like the population and year of foundation. It's kinda sad that 3 of 4 entrepreneurs died. Still, I'm wondering what that big change made by Parker is going to be... ;)

'Real' update:
First picture is nice, but those windmills make me don't like it ::) I just don't like wind power plants (both in real life as in the game). Second one, along with the 3rd, are making the ultimate pair, that keeps the update on the level I expect from you. :P Fourth is great also, but I don't really enjoy looking at that custom park. I would jump on my walls with happiness if you'd change it, in fact :D 5th picture has basically the same worse parts as the 4th one. By the way, I just realised the name 'Finchley'. In fact, call your MD 'Casper's variations of London UK' :P Back to the real thing, nice use of FARR against those things that make power... Windmills unfortunately won this round ()sad() But since 7th pic is windmill free, I have to say that I like it. Not one of your best, but still nice. ;) And that's the end of the update, I'm afraid :(

Well, this update is not your best, but still enjoyable. The history part is great especially. I really like it, and you get four/five thumbs up from me:

Thank you for your attention ;)

Nice work Casper. The history turned out great and I like the update. Looks like someone figured out the London connection. Something about that fenced area in the 5th pic: there's no gate (at least that I can see). Aside from that, good work on this. School is picking up and I may be a bit scarce around here for a little while, but I'll catch up with you later on MSN.

Outstanding work here, Casper!

The history reads very well, and the pictures looks fantastic, too, my friend!

Keep up the great job you're doing here!

Whh...  whhattt is that in the roundabout!  ??? IT'S A GLR-TURN 90* Roundabout!!!  :o Now I really wish I was a Nam-Associate! Too bad the closet I've ever done to transit modding was to change the number of cars the train had behind it.  &mmm
