M:  Thanks!  Time to move on then...

Vicki:  Happy is good... I like happy...

Threestooges:  That might be a good point, but I'm really not sure either.  The house next door to where I grew up had ivy covering the majority of the side (2 1/2 stories tall and about 40 feet across) and I don't recall seeing any major "trunk"  I think they average 4-8 inches in diameter, but I'm honestly only guessing.  I'll have to take a look what I go up there for Easter.

Rooker:  Thanks!

Sebes:  Thank-you!  Don't worry about it... I tend to skip around a lot in the hopes of confusing everyone anyway!   :D

The texturing saga continues.  I've straightened out the boiler issues with the textures and lighting.  I won't bother to show that one again, but it's been fixed.  So I moved on to the athletic building tonight.  No lighting yet, just the early textures.  Still a few touch-ups here and there, but overall it's pretty good.

I'm debating whether ivy will go on this one or not.  There aren't many places to put it and I'm afraid if I just use it on the sides where there is room it will look dumb not having any on the front or back.  So... we'll see.

In other news... (speaking of skipping around and confusing people)... I'm trying to wrap up my textures for all this stuff.  So I finally went back and redid the track and changed it to the reddish that most people seem to prefer.  I still have the original color as well and might release both, but I'm undecided on that just now.  No soccer version just yet... still working to line that up properly... but it's coming, I promise!

Ignore anything else on this picture for now... this is strictly a color test for the track itself.  Nothing else has changed since the last time I posted a preview of this field.  I still have the fixes in mind, just haven't gotten there yet.  Will this track work for you?

The building looks fine without ivy. I also agree that that might look funny (or too cluttered). Plus, it looks like a more recently built/contemporary building (compared to the others so far) and thus it would not have had time to grow yet. Secondly, in regard to the dumpster in the back, the board surrounding it look to be of a slightly lower scal than one would expect on a university campus (though it doesn't look bad). I also like what appears to be a loading dock next to the dumpster. however, (I'm not sure of truck sizes in relation to this building) but it looks like it might be a bit of a tight fit (which explains the posts on either side) but it seems like an awkward place to put a truck/semi. All in all it looks great. Can't wait to see what comes next.

&apls &apls Very nice design . The first feeling that i have when i see your building it`s warm and welcome . great job mate. &apls

WOW! I really love that building! It's amazing!

And I also seem to prefer the reddish texture for the track! :P

whoa, that is one awesome track field, looks just like the one i used to run on in HS. but the stuff i ran on was granulated asphalt, is it possible to change the texture to black too?

Oh, I do like the 'athletic' building!  The red looks good on the track, if I remember correctly it's the same color as the track at the local college that was recently updated. &apls &apls &apls

Threestooges:  I've yet to see a pretty fence surrounding a dumpster!  :D  The loading dock is a tight fit, but I think it's doable.  Working in food service (the loading dock serves the caffeteria kitchen), I can say that kitchen deliveries seldom arrive on full 110' trailers anyway.  I'll throw a prop in there just to double check, but I think it works.  As for the ivy... I doubt I'll use it here for the reasons you mentioned.  It struck me as a "newer building designed to look old" (I was suprised to hear someone else echo it so closely to be honest) which, as you said, wouldn't have ivy on it yet.  Thanks for yet another well thought and considered post!

M:  Thanks!  I'm a big fan of that building too.  The reddish stays no matter what!

Cali:  Thank-you!  I'm more accustomed to the surface you're talking about as well.  See page two for a look at that version.  I still have both at the moment, and if enough people want the darker, I will release that as well.  So that goes for anyone else who wants to see the darker version live to game time... cast your votes here!   ()stsfd()

Vicki:  Thanks!

Keeping with the track theme for a moment longer... I finished the soccer textures today.  Yes... I ended up making my own set.  The Maxis ones just didn't fit right and adjusting the whole track to accomodate them seemed silly when I could adjust the field to fit the track.  So that's what I did.  The dimensions are exactly the same as the original... just shifted to fit an even number of tiles instead of an odd number.  Here's a sneak peek at that version.

Same disclaimer as last time.  This is far from finished and still missing a lot of props.  (I may move the scoreboards entirely for this version, too)  I'm only posting this picture for the ground textures at this point.

Cheers!
JB

Glad the red texture is staying, because, quite frankly, that's the way it is in South Africa and I'll be more than happy with it! :P Also, on an aside note, we never have a soccer pitch / field in the middle of the track, here in South Africa, at least 9/10 times it's a rugby field. :P

Not that I'm asking for one, just informing you on how it looks here. ;D

Keep up the good work, and I'll be waiting, ever so patiently and devoted! I love your work! ;)

hi my friend how are you,i see you are still doing awesome work &apls

oldrogue

Man, I stay away (RLS) for two days and you get sooooo far ahead of me!   Girls dorm is perfect, the ivy at my Doctor's office has been there for 20+ years.....and the trunks are quite small considering...covers a great deal of area but trunks are only 6" at the most.  Love (platonicly) the athletic bldg.  The fit for the loading dock mirrors the one's I have seen (and tried to back into) many a time.... Think that's why the good Lord invented hand trucks ;D.   The only thing I would wish for on the athletic building would be a billboard out front advertising tonites game or concert....  am ambivilant on the color of the track, my school (back in the dark ages) had kind of a sickly light tan track.... I think that I would probably opt for the reddish tho', just for visual contrast.  Will tell you am really waiting for the American football stadium.... ahhh sweet memories of youth...or something like that.
Sometimes I go into my own little world....but it's ok, they know me there.

Cali

oops, i guess i missed that pic on page 2..sorry, anyways i would leave the reddish texture, it does make the detail more visible. and once again, awesome work &apls

Metasmurf:  Thank-you!

M:  Glad you like it, thanks!  I've never seen a soccer field surrounded by a running track either, but I'm told it's quite common in Europe.  I was thinking about a rugby field for the private school, actually...  the problem is that I know absolutely nothing about it!  Any chance you could point me towards some official dimensions and/or illustrations?  No promises yet... but I'll certainly look into it.

Jacky:  Hello... I'm fine, and you?  Thanks... I try!  ;)

Oldrogue:  Thank-you!  You pretty much confirmed two of my guesses... always nice to be sure.  I'm not sure if a sign like you're talking about would be appropriate or not.  I always imagine private schools like this one being kind of tucked away and not overly visible, in which case, I'm not sure who would see such a sign.  It would probably be a separate prop anyway... hmm... I'll have to ponder that one a bit.

Cali:  No problem... it was a while ago (I had to go back and find it myself!)  That picture is zoom 4 compared to zoom 5, so the detail level is misleading.  Both tracks are identical outside of the color.

Well... since I'm still on the fence about the original boy's dorm for Westlake, and since I couldn't seem to focus on any of the things I "needed" to be doing... I decided to make an alternate dorm today.  I think this one will actually replace the old boy's dorm, which may become something else or may get left out entirely (I really don't know yet)  Anyway... here's a look:

It still needs ivy... nobody panic!   :D  I also have a couple lighting adjustments to make... but this is basically it.

Oooooooooh! I also really like that! It almost reminds me of Pretoria Boys' High, the High School my boyfriend attended. :P

It's looking really good.  &apls &apls

As for the rugby field, if you're really interested you can find gmax models and textures for some of the stuff here -> Click! and information on the dimensions (in the form of a diagram) here -> Click!

If you do have the time then, and are seriously considering making a rugby pitch, it would be so perfect for me! lol  $%Grinno$%

I can make a Boys' High here!  ;D

Good luck with the endeavour, and I'm looking forward to more!

Wow, some really great stuff here.  The red texture of the running track looks perfect to me.

M:  Thanks for the links!  I'll definitely take a look at those when I get a chance. (There are nearly 600 kids to feed this week... so it may be a while)  Glad you like the new dorm.

C.P.  Thank-you!

Well... I had hoped to have a preview of the ivy to show today, but that didn't happen.  I got sidetracked and I completely blame Dolphin66 for that!   :D  She posted a lighting preview of something she's been working on and the warm glow was exactly what I'd been missing.  So... thinking it would be a relatively quick adjustment, I went and started tinkering with my lights for the two dorms (not that there was anything wrong with them, but I felt the need to go better since these kids all come from very well-to-do and prominent families) before starting the ivy.  Two hours later...  ::) :D I finally started on the ivy!  Needless to say... I didn't get it all done yet.  I did get two plants finished in the front which leaves probably 4 - 6 more to make.  So maybe tomorrow I'll have something to show.
