First of all, I've been a bit quite on site lately. As my fellow NUTs know, I have just moved house, and haven't got my internet back up as yet. Currently using my old mans (which is a tad slow - took me ages to upload the pic's for this update to Imageshack). Probably will be a couple of weeks before mine is up and running again, but hope to visit a few of your MD's over this weekend.

thundercrack83: Hey Dustin, thank's for the great comments mate.

TheTeaCat: Hi Derry, that did take a while. I had to replace the bulldozer, it was worn out  ;) Appreciate the coments as always.

paroch: Lol, no chance my friend, that will just make Joan thirsty for more, and you're next  :D
Well I had to show a fan zone sooner or later, and that was just the spot. It's a pity you can't use all the textures in the game at the same time, I like the red, but would like a bit of variation. Although imagine what that would do to your menu's, mine are long enough as it is   $%Grinno$%

Simpson: Thanks David, appreciate the comments.

bat: Thankyou bat

Quote from: Jmouse on November 30, 2008, 11:57:47 PMYou and Paul both have given me some terrific ideas.
Well, seeing you have been given all those great ideas, how about seeing a Jmouse MD sooner rather than later   :D No pressure  ;) Thanks Joan

Pat: lol Pat. I'd keep that winnie cheese locked up, those meeces are a hungry lot  ::)

rooker1: Thanks Robin, it took a while but I was happy with the outcome. I'm glad you liked.

Balnavia's first and currently, only golf course. Don't expect to play here though unless you are
rolling in Simoleans.

Once an 18 hole private golf course, the back 9 was sold off during the Depression of '57.
Not what you might think, the back nine was built over an underground river system and was slowly
sinking as the river wore away more and more of the underlying rock structure.

However, the land was bought by a rather clever developer, who managed to divert the river to the
surface and was able to backfill the caverns. Most unexpectedly to the members, a residential area of
medium highrise grew, so much for privacy. The weekly Friday afternoon Nudie Nine had to be cancelled,
not by the golf club, but by the police after numerous complaints by local residents. The site of all those
shafts, balls and bags was just too much (golf club shafts, golf balls and golf bags that is  $%Grinno$%)
(Sorry Dustin   :o )

Although it ended up a dud deal, the club still rec'd quite a bit of cash and put it too good use,
a small place for the board to meet. But that damn developer, sold off a strip of land to the
railways, recouped his original investment and shattered the serene surroundings of the golf
course and that little shack. Well not all the time, just every 20 mins when the express
speeds thru.

Golfers Leap lookout. Not many bodies down there, but a lot of putters. Also seems to be a
popular place with the garbo's, must be a good place to talk trash  ()sad()

The Parochial markets, established with an English theme. Why not try the fresh seafood.
Nothing better than cockles, whelks and jellied eel washed down with a warm pint  $%Grinno$%

And on a serious note, surely not, a couple of alternate hwy exits. (just can't seem to solve that
hwy texture problem at one end of the bridges, any ideas?)

So one more update, hope you enjoy.

Until next time

Cheers

Dave

Fantastic pictures there!! Wonderful work on Cattai! It looks beautiful!

The Nudie Nine  &mmm  It could only happen in Balnavia  ::)

Great update mate - Cattai looks a really well put together town.  Love the idea of building the golf course around the lake - may have to have a go at that myself sometime.

The highway junctions look interesting - again, you're giving me some good ideas.  And I like the way JBSimio's school is tucked down in the hollow there - nice one.  And of course, I like the use of the Parochial Markets - and must confess the jellied eels and whelks have never really done it for me - the warm beer, yes that's MUCH more like it!  Have you slightly modified one of the lots?  It looks a tad different from what I can recall (nice work btw).

The way you've used the grey rocks on the coastline is VERRRRRRY nice indeed - great job.

All in all another great tooheys update.  Good luck with the new house and look forward to more from Balnavia.

All the best

Paul

Dave,

Haven't visited for a while sorry.  Great update there.  Nice golf course.  Book me in for a round.  Paul will pick up the tab.  And I'll see you for a pint in the shack.

Also, if your secretary is playing in the next Nudie Nine book me in.  Anything for a good cause.

thundercrack83

Such a stunning course there, my friend!

I love the use of the ploppable water--Brilliance! Sheer brilliance!

Take care!

Dustin

I like your port.
Your cities are very nice, I like the golf course too.  ;D
I will be waiting to see more.

Just got back from a little holiday to find a beautiful Cattai update in the e-mail box! :)

The port just looks great, and I love the walls and road arrangement toward the upper right (first photo). As always, your transport system bears extensive study - it's really complex but looks so good! And there's one of your signature shorelines, too!

I can see why duffers need to be "rolling in simoleans" to play on that course - they'll need a huge supply of golf balls with all that water to dodge! And as for the Nudie Nine - there are plenty of memorable stories in Balnavia, and this is one more that will bring a chuckles for a long time to come. Who but tooheys could dream up a yarn like that then have the nerve to post it! ;D

The seventh photo overview is just fabulous - that shoreline again - and a fine closer-up view of the transport system. The Parochial markets look good although the menu leaves something to be desired, and that last photo with a roundabout and classic tunnel makes me feel right at home.

Hope your house move is going well - maybe all of us will get back to some sense of RL normalcy in the next few weeks...

Firstly, a quick update on the homefront. Still without my own internet connection, but this should be up and running next week so I can pick up the pace a little.

Hope you all had a great Xmas and if I don't drop by before hand, a Happy New Year to everyone

sim-al2: Thanks sim-al2, most appreciated.

bat: Thankyou bat

paroch: Hi Paul. Not sure which market lot you are referring to, but they are all untouched. Must be the angle (or one too many warm pints ;D ) Thanks mate.

art128: Arthur, thanks for the comments.

Diggis: Hey Shaun, if only I had a secretary  $%Grinno$%. I might save Paul the expense for a change and make you both honourary members of the club. Free golf and free beer. Of course he can pay for the taxi to get there  :P

thundercrack83: Thanks for the comments Dustin, always great to see you dropping by.

un1: Thanks, and you've waited long enough, so here's some more  ;)

Jmouse: Well someone has to keep you chuckling, and Dustin wincing  ;D Thanks Joan.

Simpson: Thanks David. I'm pleased that you enjoyed and I appreciate the comments. Thanks

Cattai

Cattai continues to grow yet it is still a half empty quad, or is that half full. Anyway, many areas are still growing or being developed, but here are some pic's of random areas throughout the city that I hope you enjoy.

So no stories this time around. Good news though, the Nudie Nine is back. After discussions
with the neighbours, it was agreed that night golf was the way to go. Luminous holes and balls
(golf holes and golf balls that is, you people have filthy minds $%Grinno$%) with the players
shrouded in darkness. A great idea, but those mozzies  ::)

Next update I should be back on my own PC. So see you next year, and have a great New Year everyone.

Cheers

Dave

Very nice work Dave. The first shot of the two islands is very well done. It looks great and the technical/construction aspect behind it is pretty neat too. I'm not a fan of the apartment/condo/highrise life personally, but you make it look good. I like the selection of buildings and they all seem to fit together without seeming over crowded. I also like the composition of the last pic too. The dirt path winding down to the field is excellent. It really looks like it has been worn there over time. Well done. As for the nudie 9, well, I hope it's not too chilly at night. Hope all is well, and Happy New Year to you too.

Dave, you bring a touch of pseudo-reality to the game which sets Balnavia apart from the rest – and above many! I look at that first photo and think, "Yes, something like that could exist – it isn't likely, but it's possible." Then I just sit back and enjoy the view. Glad you showed it from several different angles – it's unique to the game as far as I know, and a work of art in it's own way.

I like the older-style buildings at the left/center – they remind me of Houston in the '50s in both color and style. Of course, my hometown is full of cloud scrapers now, some of which surely were hatched in the darkest nightmares of psychotic architects. :o

Then there's the seventh photo – the monument/memorial with the reflection pond behind it. Love the way you've offset it with the seasonal trees, too – makes for a really nice photo. Then the next three pix are just lovely to look at, especially the last one. Just hope that big boulder doesn't shake itself loose and roll down the hill – what a goal that would make. BTW, keep those rocks off the golf course! ;D

Glad to hear the move is done and the internet connection is on the way. It's no fun being without the things you're used to.

Later...
Joan

Another nice update Dave.  I particularly like the islands in the stream (cue for a song) they are very nicely done and I can imagine they'll be popular with the Balnavians.

You've quickly become a master with Mas71's river, it really does look very good.

And that footie stadium is also a nice one - It looks kinda like the Maxis one but re-lotted - is that the case and is it one you knocked up yourself?

Happy new year to you,

Paul

Wow, nice work with Mas-san's river kit! You cleverly used them to make twin "park islands" in the middle, which looks great. Greenery and skyscrapers should go hand in hand, in my opinion, which is why I like your style. Nice work, Dave !
