I don't think it is too dark or too brown at all. I think the color might be a bit washed out (giving it that tenament look), but I like how it's coming together. Perhaps a bit bolder, more saturated brown might work. Either way, I'm sure it'll look amazing once it is done.

Very nice factory Jon, A lot of great details you put here my friend !  &apls

Wow  ;D That is just stunning! Can't wait to see the finished product!

Dustin:  Thank you!  I think the brown ended up being alright once I worked on the accent colors a bit more.  This should fit on a very tight 3x3... but I may go 4x4 with it.  Not really sure yet!  ;)

Allan:  I didn't really want to go too orange.  Historically, this is based off of Chicago's oldest surviving skyscraper and I really didn't think orange would fit that particular time frame.

Pat:  Well then, thank you!

Matt:  Thanks!

Arthur:  Well it's not a factory... but I'm glad you like it anyway!  :D

Kant:  Thank you!

Alright... it took a little longer to wrap this one up than I had hoped.  I think it's just about there now though.  I ended up tweaking the accent textures enough that I didn't change the brick at all and I'm pretty happy with how that turned out.  I have a couple lighting things to fix... mostly the circular staircase (which you can't even tell is lit up right now!) and the main entry.  For some reason, the revolving door isn't allowing light to shine through right now, so I need to figure that part out yet.

Other than those couple of things, I think this is done... unless of course I've missed something!   ::)  In the meantime...

It probably doesn't look like a whole lot yet, but it's a little sneak peak at the next one.  This is floors 4-19 of what will eventually be 22 or 23 stories tall.  The Hunter-Dulin Building is an oldie from San Francisco and has been on my list for quite a while.  I figured now that I live here, I ought to go ahead and do something with it! :D  Unfortunately, pictures of the front have been hard to find so far... probably because of a couple taller buildings right across the street... so I'm sure I'll get a litte inventive with this one.  The final lot will be 4 wide by I'm not really sure yet... the depth will depend on what I do with the base.

Til next time,
JB

Looks great! Really looks like there is quite a bit of detail there on the inside in the night shots. Is the circular staircase that rounded portion on the back-inside? If so, I think it will look just about perfect once that is lit up. :D

As a St. Louisian I appreciate your recreation of the Buder Building one of the many architectural gems that this city has lost, but there are plenty of other buildings in St. Louis that you should consider making (Still standing and demolished).  ;)

I really like how the Chicago Building has turned out  and can't wait to see it on the LEX

Speaking of the LEX when do you plan on uploading the university set, it looks great in your MD.

thundercrack83

Wow, Jon! I'm used to being impressed when I stop in here, but you never cease to amaze me, my friend!

Excellent work, as always! I'll be waiting eagerly to download!

Take care!

I love how that building looks. The textures, the style, and the nightlighting remind me of JasonCWs stuff which I am also a big fan of. Has that Maxis look but with greater detail that I like top notch work.

Been keeping an eye on your continuously-amazing work lately hoping to pick up some tricks that will improve my limited skills. I haven't improved a bit, but I've thoroughly enjoyed watching your creativity at work! :D Not surprisingly, I have a huge collection of your BATs in my plugin folder, and now I have reason to hope for more.

Thanks for sharing
your work in progress with us along with the finished products.

Bloody well amazing, my friend. Keep it up.

Hey Jon,
&apls
The building looks great Jon, but I have a little question for ya.  Does the LOD fit tight over the roof of the middle lower part of the building?  I have an idea....
Great work on this one.  &apls
The Hunter-Dulin Building looks like a great next choice.

Kant:  Thank you!  The interior details are really just a simple trick of the floor textures.  ;)

Pknitty:  Thanks!  I really enjoyed the Buder Building as well.  I've noticed that St Louis is a pretty good place for older buildings, so I wouldn't be surprised to find another from there at some point.  The University set will make its way to the LEX eventually, but I don't have any concrete timeframe in mind just yet.  In the meantime, you can always find it on the DVD.

Dustin:  Thank you!  The final lighting tweaks are almost finished, so I'm hoping to get the Rookery finished up sometime next week.

SimNation:  Thanks!  I'd add Nofunk and Spa to that list too and I'm honored to be part of it.

Joan:  Thank you!  Feel free to ask for any specific hints you'd be interested in.  In the meantime, there will always be more as long as I can keep some sort of focus... :D

Kevin:  Thanks!  I'm bloody glad you like it!  :D

Pat:  I had seen that website and the first of your pictures, but that second one will definitely come in handy for the base.  Thank you!

Robin:  Thanks!  I haven't actually fitted the final LOD yet.  I wasn't planning on a tight fit over that section, but it wouldn't take too much to get reasonably close.  It kind of depends on what you have in mind, I suppose.  I can definitely do a rough notch out of that lightwell with no trouble though.

Un1:  Thank you!

Well, the Rookery Building is almost finished.  I have a rather long weekend of work ahead of me (starting in about an hour), so I'm hoping to get that wrapped up and exported on Monday.  In the meantime, I made a little more headway with the Hunter-Dulin Building.  It's starting to look like something now... ;)

Since Pat posted a picture, you can see that the upper floors are a bit more involved with set backs (it's even worse around the back!) so it's sort of slow trying to get everything lined up.  But we'll get there eventually... :D

Hey Jon,

Well my idea....I seem to always be thinking "ghetto" and I thought a nice chalk outline, garbage, or other smaller toy props might look good on that lower roof.

Side note...As many of you know I wasn't very creative when I made my username. &ops Rooker is my family name, and my Uncle has a small barn on his property that he calls the "Rookery".  It basically stores all the "man toys" and is for making his beers and wines.
Anyways, if the building is named after me, I thank you and if not I hope my little story above was interesting.

The Hunter-Dulin Building is coming along great.

Robin:  Hmmm... I guess that also helps me with whether or not to make a residential version of this one!  :D  I'll definitely notch that area out... although your props may end up floating just slightly above the roof (shouldn't be too noticable though).  I'm glad you like the Hunter-Dulin Building!  As for the Rookery Building, that's a great story but I can't give you credit this time.  From "cityofchicago.org"...
Quote
It takes its name from a temporary City Hall and water tank that stood on the site following the Fire of 1871. A favorite roost for pigeons, these structures were referred to as "the rookery."

Tag_one:  Thank you very much!

Pat:  I'm not sure what you're sorry about, but I'll gladly forgive whatever it was!  :D  Like I said, that second picture will be most helpful when I return to the lower floors of the building.  Actually, looking closer, I see a lot of similarities between the base of the Hunter-Dulin Building and the Citizen Building I did a while ago... maybe that's not so strange since both buildings are in northern California though.  Either way, thank you again!

I got a little further with the "penthouse" levels in the last couple days... mostly by staying up much later than I should (kind of like right now!)

Unfortunately, as I prepared to put the rear portions of these floors together, I made the very irritating discovery that I screwed up.  My measurements were off by just enough that there is currently no way to fit those final pieces properly.   :'(  The good news is that I think I've got the solution sorted out... the bad news is that it will probably take me several hours tomorrow to fix everything.  Oh well... what are you going to do?  Lucky for me, tomorrow is a short workday!  :D

Ouch, that bites! But I'm used to spending hours on something that doesn't work out - all a part of learning for the lesser BATters like me! ;) I'm confident you'll be able to work it out, though.
