Welcome back! It's awesome to see a new update here! And the newest update is fantastic! Wonderful work there!

Nardo69

Huhu!

This time I won't let my MD fall down to the MD archives (anyway THANK YOU VERY MUCH to Dustin and Robin for moving Urland in the active section!)

But before we start:

tooheys: Thanks for the warm welcome - back my friend! Well, I got a bit rusty and do have a new region here so let's wait and see where it'll lead me ... ;)

Sciurus: Thanks for the compliment, but it is still far from being completed! ;)

art128:  Well, There's a time to say Good Bye and a time to say I'm back it seems  ;) Everything is under construction here - hope you like it anyway :)

sebes: Thanks for the Welcome back - and about the railways, hehe - untill now no map without railway but still lots to add! ;)

bat: Thanks for the compliment, my friend!

Update 2: Ihnersteinberg

My new region is still small and at the beginng so you'll see here more technical shots (with Grid, yes). On the other hand this gives me the opportunity to show you how I work on my cities.

In the last update I showed you the firstr draft of this update's railway station. The railway line has moved due to region requirements but now some developement can be seen:

Picture 2.01

We are hier basically in a small town next to a river with a railway line and an intersection of two important roads - I'd say a Bundesstraße (national road) and a Landesstraße (state road). The railway line runs parallel to one of the roads separated only by some farm fields (I saw such a layout so often ...)

On the upper side ofthe picture you can see the only bridge on that medium and the river dike that protects the valley from the yearly high water - something you can see very often along the Rhine and other big rivers in Germany.

Picture 2.02

Now the Simulator has run quite some time. I regard the area between the dike and the railway station as a newer seddlement (after WW II) and zoned it low-density. The area right to the ralwaystation shall become the "historic" center build during industrialisation in the 19th century.

Have a look at the STR: This is not a railway line but just connects an industrial park to the railway line - not more than 3-5 trains per week are expected here. Because of this it even crosses the main road with a level crossing.
The road that accesses the low density area however has no level crossing but an underpass resp. overpass - too much car traffic for a main line there!

Picture 2.03
The industrial park with the small railway track. It has a side track at the freight station (btw the ingame freight station is not so bad on such situations) AND the track also accesses the coal power plants.
AFAIK most thermic power plants do have rail connection in Germany, power plant coal is mainly delivered by train and nuclear power plants need railway connection to carry away the nuclear waste!

Picture 2.04

The industrail park from another angle. Even though I later connected the industrial park with a second road there is still no direct access from the residential area as I don't want rat-run trafic here in order to funnel the traffic for my commercials.

BTW I tried to Ctrl-zoom nice big lots but it didn't work out as I planned - my Region is just too small for that at the moment.  ()sad()

Picture 2.05

The only bridge on that map - Like in real life I want to limit their number. You can clearly see the highwater dams here, too.

BTW can someone of you recommend a nice water mod to me that goes together with ploppable water? Someday even an oldfashioned old donkey like me begins new things ...

TEASER:

Any one for railway station layout on a single-track railway line?  ;)

And finally a "region view" - there isn't more in my actual region:

Have fun!

Bernhard

a classic nardo update, great work as always, i default to here for researching how to implement realistic railways :)
NAM + CAM + RAM + SAM, that's how I roll....

Super Bernhard... not only the railtracks. The river dikes caught my attention...it must been a hellufajob to get them like that. And you managed well, the look VERY realistic!

However, if this would truely be riverland, the railtracks would probably also be raised on foundations, to avoid the trackes from being pushed in the clay due the trainloads. And the underpass in 2.02 would probably be filled with seepage water. But I can image raising all railtracks would make you crazy so still give a big applaus for what I see shown here  &apls

Your railways have always been top notch. The addition of STR has just made it easier to show how good you are at it. Of all the things to look at in 2.01, I found myself continually drawn to the station and it surrounding tracks. You make it look flawless and effortless. As for a water mod, I'm not sure what all is out there these days. I use one of Peg's old ones (Hawaiian Holiday I think) that seems to work reasonably well, but there is a bit of camoflauge needed at some points. Nice work as always.

All right, Bernhard!  You're back!

I can't wait to see what you will be doing with STR and the other new rail stuff that's come available over the past few months.

It's great to have Urland up and running again.

Nice second update after your "returning"!
The region overview looks beautiful! Nice river there! Also nice rural area!!

kwakelaar

Great to see that you are back making updates.

Battlecat

Can't believe I haven't been able to make time to stop in to have a look at your work here until now.  Particularly considering I've found Urland quite inspiring in the past!

Those dirt roads along the power lines would be quite scary to drive, kind of the ultimate traffic calming right there!  As always, your work with the railways looks excellent!  I'm looking forward to seeing what else you're planning on here!

Nardo69

Only a teaser to shorten up the wait till the next update(s):

You should know someone should tell slow players like me that RRP and ploppable are tuing slow players to almost nozt moving players ...  ::)

Battlecat

Nice start with the RRP stuff!  No worries about the time, it just takes practice to get comfortable with the tools.  If it helps, think of them as brushes instead of as tools, just paint on the landscape!

Looking forward to the next main update!

Congratulation on this promotion Bernhard, and what a great teaser to start it ! I really love your use of Jernoni's plopable water, very nice. Also, the borders of the river are excellent, they're not too much decorate but not enough too !
Looking forward to more of your OSITM.
