Arthur (art128): Thanks so much, Arthur!

carkid1998: Thanks, my friend!

Alex (Driftmaster07): Yes, I did! Thanks for catching that one, Alex. I'll get it fixed immediately!

Robin (rooker1): Hi, Robin! I do have a lot of time on my hands, don't I? It's that dangerous combination of unemployed and insomniac! It's always great to see you here, my friend! Take care!

Dan (dsrwhat316): Hello, Dan! I have to tell you, my friend—you always get me thinking with the suggestions you give. I love it! I'm going to have to do some serious thinking about this one, though. Just from trying to apply your explanation got my head a bit confused! Thank you so much for your input and, please, keep it coming! Your ideas are always fantastic! Hope to see you again soon!

Luke (Luke09): Thanks, Luke! And yes, it is!

Darra (darraghf): Thanks, my friend! And thank you for your input on the Beaubourg building, too—I think that may be one of those buildings that, since it's such a different-looking structure, will stick out like a sore thumb anywhere you put it. Then again, I may be wrong! Thanks again for you opinion, my friend, and for stopping by!

Battlecat: Thank you so much!

Glowbal: Thanks, my friend! I agree with you on the underpass, it looks so much better now! And yes, they go under canal pieces. Hope to see you again soon!

Alex (Driftmaster07): Hey, Alex! Our friend Arthur answered your question directly below your question. Hope that helps!

Arthur (art128): Thanks for answering Alex's question, Arthur!

Well, I'm still plugging away at this new area in Abitibi Square, but I've run into a bit of a pickle. For some reason, one of the overlay textures...

...doesn't seem to match like it does in...

...the LE. I thought, at first, that it was a result of have double overlays on one tile, but the example above is just one of them, so I'm at a loss. If anyone has an explanation, I'd be eternally grateful!

Oh, and just to prove that the aforementioned pickle hasn't impeded progress...

Sorry about the view—those pesky unpaid interns are back in the dark room, developing these pictures. Who knows how they ended up making look like a burlap sack, though!

More to come!

Hey, Dustin, I think you can hide those textures by putting bushes, flowers or other stuff over them ;)

Damn those interns.  You should stop paying them....oh yah, you already don't.  Fire them than....
As for the LE problem, I'm not too sure.  I would need to look at the file itself and see what was used.  There might be a conflict with the ID numbers of that particular piece.  Is it a double overlay?  If so that could be the problem.  It won't be an issue in LE, but once brought into game it could be.  A good idea might be to just ask Barby to have a look at it.

See you later,
Robin

Looks like you've been doing well here, Dustin. I've been silently following the progress here, and I still like it a lot. I'm looking forward to the results of your lotting.

I'm pretty sure the issue with the texture is caused by it being a wealth-dependant overlay, meaning that it will chance it's colour according to the wealth of the lot. In the Lot Editor, it doesn't show this, and just uses the High Wealth texture (bright green), but in-game it may change to a less bright (almost brownish) green. An easy way to solve this is by setting the wealth of the lot to High Wealth, using ILive's reader.

First of all, open the building description in the Reader, and double-click the Wealth property, that now shows Medium Wealth (or Low Wealth)

You will end up in this window, where you should change the 0x02 down below to 0x03

Thus, it will look like this. Now, press Apply twice (first on the right, then at the bottom)

In the end, the Reader will have changed the property from Medium Wealth to High Wealth, and, after you've saved, the texture should look fine.

Hope it works,
Casper

This might be a good idea... As for other fixes, I'm not quite sure  &mmm.

Hi Dustin!

It looks as if I've missed a couple fine updates here again.  Things continue to look very good indeed!   &apls

I would agree with Casper as to the source of your texture problems.  It definitely looks like a wealth dependent overlay that you're using.  I'm not sure if his solution is necessary, though.  Quite a few of these reverse overlay textures have versions that are not impacted by the lot wealth.  I can't be certain about this particular one until I get a chance to look at home... but I'll take a look and edit this later if I can find the "right" texture.

JB

Edit:  I stand corrected... I'm guessing that the overlay texture you've got there is 0x59433000, which is indeed the high wealth version of a wealth dependent "family."  There is no independant version of this particular texture that I could find.  Sorry... back to Casper's suggestion!  ;)

Yes, it appears you are using one of the wealth-dependent overlay textures on your lot. Looks like Casper beat me to an explanation on how to fix this, though  :P

If my explanation about applying the resizing trick to your square was confusing, sorry. Just go back to when you put a base texture underneath the rails in one of your train station updates (sorry forgot which one). It's basically the same thing, except here since there is a base texture (the grass) underneath the roads, the one you use when lot-resizing will replace it (the grass) with whatever you choose for a base texture. Then using the link I provided before, will net you the diagonal road overlay textures so that your base texture won't show through the roads. Hope that was a little more clear; if not, drop me a PM for more help.

And damn your cryptic pics! I'm always curious to see what you are up to that I make Marathon one of my first stops whenever I check into SC4D. Until next time, Dustin...

io_bg: That's a great idea! Thanks so much!

Robin (rooker1): Hey, Robin! Those interns do always find new and wonderful ways to screw things up, don't they? Even when they get fired, a whole new batch comes in and messes up all over again. At least they're not paid, though! Thanks for your help on the texture issue, too—some are double-overlays, some are not—we'll get it figured out. Take care, my friend!

Casper (caspervg): Hi, Casper! So great to see you again, my friend! And with such a fantastic explanation! I've never used the Reader before, but we'll see how it goes. Thank you very much for your help!

Alex (Driftmaster07): I like that idea, too! Quick and easy! Thanks for stopping by!

bat: Thanks so much, my friend! And don't worry about missing things, it's OK—you're always welcome here!

Jon (JBSimio): Hi, Jon! Thanks so much for all your help, especially in tracking things down like that. I appreciate it very much! Hopefully we'll get things straightened out! Take care!

Dan (dsrwhat316): Hello, Dan! Your explanation wasn't confusing at all, my friend. It's just my head getting itself all tied in knots trying to figure things out! That's what happens when you do most of your work in the wee-wee hours of the morning! Thanks for the more detailed explanation, though. I'm sure it will be even more helpful! Hope to see you again soon!

Well...thanks to our great friend Casper (caspervg)...

Our texture problem is solved! For the most part anyway, there's one or two that are double-overlays that probably need to either be re-textured in the LE, or hidden with the "creative prop placing" technique that our friend io_bg suggested! Either way, though, I think we're in good shape and ready to get started with adding props!

It's going to be tough this weekend, though, as my girlfriend and her dad are having a yard sale and I've been conscripted volunteered to help out with sorting, pricing, disposing, etc... Hope your weekend is much more fun than mine!

More to come!

rooker1

Hey Dustin,
Good to hear you have it figured out.
Hope you have a great weekend.
Johana and I invited her cousin from Chile to stay with us for a while a few months back.  Everyhting has all come together finally and he is now on a plane on the way here.  I pick him up at the airport tomorrow morning.  So we all will be having a great weekend. ;)

BTW.....the park is coming along great, but it seems to be missing something still.  ;) ::) :D

See you around,
Robin  ;D

I would rather be in your position right now! I must move heavy furniture to my parents new house all weekend! /wrrd%& Your job is waaaaaaaaay easier! Plus I will be without TV or internet till Tuesday. :'( Good luck with your garage sale!

This is probably going to sound real dumb , but is the ground level in that Ferris wheel pic? the winding sidewalk kinda gives the illusion of hills , or maybe I'm just really tired!
Looking good! Have fun with the yard sale... ;D

Nice job with these paths Dustin, looks nice. However, I don't really love what you done at right of the big wheel, the paths goes to a place but without exit to the street, but it's not your fault, its because of the game.  ;) (I hope you'll understand what I mean.)
Also, i'm glad you solved the texture problem !
Take care,
-Arthur.
