Amazing update!
In fact, I would thank you for the work you're doing. It looks amazing.  ;)

Battlecat

Congratulations on 25 updates!  I particularly like the map showing all the new growth in the region!

Alex (Driftmaster07): Thanks!

just_a_guy: Thank you! I've said it elsewhere, but that region shot is the result of my great care in trying to keep development as realistic as possible, so I'm glad you like it. Thank you also for your congratulations!

Guillaume (Sciurus): Merci, my French friend! I'm glad you've enjoyed watching Nyhaven develop.

Corey (Nexis4Jersey): Thank you! It's all too easy to focus on getting a downtown to look good, but I've tried to challenge myself to get the big picture right, too. Thanks for letting me know that I've done well in that respect!

M4346: Wow, what high praise! I truly appreciate your kind words, my friend. Don't worry about being a pain; I've done the same thing many times. Those cylindrical towers that resemble Marina City Chicago are the Bank of SimCity Plaza by joerg, available on the STEX; the mall is the River Rock Shopping Centre by JaWood, also on the STEX. Happy downloading!

Matt (threestooges): Thanks so much, my friend! The NMR map is based heavily on the design of the London tube map, a real design classic, and I'm glad you like it. I'm also glad you like the final mosaic and the concept I was going for; that one took quite a bit of time to put together. You're too right about the BAT - a terrific program, but one I've already sacrificed many hours to. Come back soon, and take care!

Tomas Neto: Thank you!

b_schlurf: Well, you're welcome! Sometimes all this work may feel easy, but it's taken a lot of practice to get it to look right.

Glowbal: Thanks, and you're welcome as well! I'm touched by your kind words.

Battlecat: Thank you! I thought that map was a good idea, just to give you all the big picture, which I'm rather fond of showing (as I've surely said before).

Well, now that 25 updates have passed, you may notice some little changes in how Nyhaven's pics look. They'll still feature the same old Photoshopping, but you might notice some new fonts. I thought this made a nice time to change things up a bit, and I'm rather happy with the new fonts; I think they convey the engineering motif of this CJ rather nicely. Anyway, on with today's pic!

Kendall isn't the only city where I've done some custom lotting, though you probably already knew that, thanks to Update 23. Here are a couple more custom lots, this time in Nyhaven's Ridgeland Park. This park, which is the centerpiece of the parks belt around the inner suburbs, has two large pavilions, which were recently renovated. They now boast an abundance of cheap food options and entertainment venues, including an open-air marketplace and amphitheater in the northern pavilion and a statue gallery and chess park in the southern pavilion. I may lengthen the lots by a couple more cells lengthwise, to incorporate the paths that run along either end, but I don't know at this point.

Feel brand new. Be inspired.

My new MD. Check it out if you wish.

Adrian, I miss you man.

Thanks for the feedback! I actually found the shopping centre in the mean time! But THANKS for the link to the towers! ;)

Also, killer park you have there! I never know how to make parks look "right", but would definitely say you've got it down to an art!

Looking forward, as usual, to more!

Very nice 'central park' you have there. I like the new fonts too. They fit perfectly.

Very nice update you have here.

Nice new font!  I really like that park, you've done a great job on it.

This is a very, very impressive diary.  Your transportation network and maps are some of the best I've ever seen!  &apls  I'm an engineer and that sort of thing gets me going.  :P :D

I very much like your region views.  Very realistic and most impressive.

The full-size map (Update 25 Image 24) is just stunning.  Other city builder games that will remain un-named here don't have the slightest hope of developing the richness and complexity of the experience SC4 offers the dedicated player.

Great work.  Congratulations on two and a half years of Nyhaven!

Personal replies will come on Thursday, along with Update 26. In the meantime, here's an announcement from the Lower Columbian government.

Earlier today, His Majesty King Zachary's office issued the following press release in response to recent bombings in Atrubia:

"The people of Lower Columbia are shocked and saddened by the recent attacks on Atrubian soil. Although we shall not provide military support at this time, since it is not currently needed, we extend our hand in offering the Atrubian Empire any financial assistance they may need in rebuilding their Supreme Court building. I have just signed a parliamentary act authorizing up to 250 million coulombs (equivalent to US$482 million) in aid and providing incentives to any Lower Columbian construction firms that take part in the rebuilding. Our prayers and best wishes go out to the Atrubian people."

Alex (Driftmaaster07): Thank you!

M4346: Thanks! Although I don't always remember to put a park in every neighborhood I build, I try to include one, and I'm glad you like the way I build them. Come back soon!

Glowbal: Thank you!

Corey (Nexis4Jersey): Thanks, Corey! It definitely took a while to make those lots, but from comments like yours, I can tell it was time well spent.

Geoff (calibanX): Thanks! I chose these fonts because I wanted some that fit with the engineering theme, and I'm glad you approve. Take care!

Battlecat: Thank you for your kind words!

djvandrake: Welcome to Nyhaven, and thanks! It's great to hear a real engineer say that my MD is impressive and realistic.

David (dedgren): Thank you, David! I appreciate your kind words, and I agree that the region view is good; I could spend way too much time simply looking at it.

dizflip: Thanks, my ally! I'm proud to be starting this new union with you, and I must say, I'm sure your region view for Kilgeo is just as impressive as mine. Take care, my friend!

citycapitalizer: Thanks!

Monday morning. Although some dread its coming, I enjoy my job so much, I actually look forward to it. It was on a Monday morning that I made a shocking discovery: Development on Hunters Island was at an all-time low because of high land prices. I knew that this wouldn't do for a city as dynamic as Nyhaven, so I got to work on a solution.

A month later, the city council met to tackle the problem I had been working on. It was my time to shine. Stepping up to the microphone, as I had done so many times before, I began my presentation:
"Ladies and gentlemen, as you know, land prices on Hunters Island are at an all-time high. A recent estimate puts them at an unprecedented fifty coulombs per square foot, a price not many developers are willing to pay. I have drafted a plan to resolve this issue.

"In times past, Nyhaven has reclaimed land from the Columbia River to expand its available realestate. I propose that we do so again, but on a much larger scale than ever before. My plan is to create 37 city blocks' worth of new land to the west of Midtown and Uptown. The existing streets and elevated rail would be realigned to conform to the island's grid pattern. This massive project would add much-needed land to the city's real estate market and drive prices down to acceptable levels. Our great city needs this project. Thank you."

Everyone loved my idea. After a lengthy debate on how to fund the project, it was approved unanimously. With that, the hard work began.

Once contractors had been chosen, the land reclamation began in earnest. To speed the project along, there were two crews working in the river. One started strightening the riverbank from the north...

.while the other started out to the south. Gradually, they worked closer and closer together.

All through the second half of 2394, Hunters Island grew and grew. By December, the old Route 50 and 20th Street bridges had been torn down to make way for the new land, and there was only a couple dozen acres left to fill in.

With the land reclamation complete. it now came time to build all the necessary infrastructure. By May of 2395, all the streets had been paved and the Hill Line was redirected onto a new elevated set of tracks. The stage was set for development to begin.

It didn't take long for the first few developers to move in. Soon, there was construction everywhere on the newly-reclaimed land.

All through that year, work continued on the new office and apartment buildings and shops. By winter, most of the land was full.

In the summer of 2396, I took a helicopter ride to survey the latest development. What a sight it was! Thousands of people now lived on the new land, and there were apartments everywhere.

The public was also relieved to have the bridges back in place. All in all, the project was a huge success. Land prices dropped to around 30 coulombs per square foot, across the island, and they were even lower on the extension.

Feel brand new. Be inspired.

This place is looking nice. My only objection is that there are a lot of maxis buildings and they are repeating quite a bit. Otherwise very good. By the way, in the first pic with the night scene, what is the tall, large building on the very far right? (the tower that is cut off at the right edge of the pic)

M4346: Come back soon!

Don't mind if I do, and besides, how could I resist! :P

I bet the people with waterfront property weren't very happy to lose the waterfront part!  $%Grinno$%

Very, very novel way to approaching this, visually and functionally, and as usual, I learned a lot, and love it!
