David,

I really dig the map that you've made. It is of excellent quality, and I have each upload from the STEX.

Hand terraformed at that size? It would be easy if most of the land was flat, but your map isn't. Unfortunately I mostly do maps of accurate scale, so I can't imagine the patience exerted during the creation of that beast. I'm sure you had a proper backup procedure done every other day or so.....

I will be the first to admit, that I didn't terraform the following map. However, I think the features are distinct enough to go ahead and post some images of it anyways. I have some comparison shots:

That is the Columbia River Valley (aka Invermere Valley) with a live shot on the first image, and my 3D shot from SC4 Terraformer. I tried to get the same perspective, but I think it's a bit off. I think that the map I did is pretty close to the original terrain. I used photoshop to change up the colors a little bit.

The mountain that you see in the last comparison (the horn looking thing - smallish in size from over 30km away) is shown here from very close. It is known as Mount Nelson, west of Invermere, British Columbia. It stands 3313m (10869ft) and I have been to the top (what a slog that was). The SC4TF image is close, however the data loss on the DEM data makes it a little off.

This comparison shot for some reason was almost impossible to get from the same perspective. I tried my hardest though...

Now for an ingame shot. This set of images cover quite a few large tiles. I have built some logging camps, ski hills, and mining operations in another version of this map that I have. It's tough to build in those small valleys, but it can be done, and it can be done beautifully, if you are patient:

I've scaled the map to 16m per pixel (1 pixel = 1 tile) of 16bit PNG greyscale data. The data had been referenced to WGS84 projection. This gets the closest accuracy I've ever seen in a map...

This was created using my new honed technique (which I've been using since I started out with NHP) invloving 16bit images and SC4 Terraformer. Thanks to wouanagaine (for creating SC4TF), I was able to make this map - which was my original goal over at ST.

Hope you guys enjoy these images.

jaw drops those mountains are the most realistic i have ever seen in my life how much for the region ?$$$$$

man that loooks great congrats &dance

The overall map size is 10.9MB, so I don't know if the STEX will allow (whaddya say jeronij?). it is 12x12 large tiles, or 3073x3073, thus turning off a large portion of the community from using this map due to computer speeds.

The valley from the first image is currently being modified by JPlumbley of NHP to allow for some great cities. He is pulling out the stops. This should be our most monumental map to date. I believe there are 18 large city tiles in the valley to build on, which is plenty. The rest..... you'll have to use your imagination!

That is crazy! I'm having a hard time figuring out which of the pics are from real life, and which are sc4.  &apls

Now I know right now I dont have many in-game pics of this map as it is a work-in progress still.  So please bear with me on the SC4TF pics.

This is the map Beskhu3epnm just previewed his mountains with.  The work he has asked me to do was recreate the LARGE valley for release.  With my techniques and ways of doing things it has taken me 3 months to get this far.  But that included about 5 weeks on no working due to school work.  All my work on this map has been hand terraformed using the tools in SC4TF.  The original river changed elevations and was very unusable for SC4 cities so it was erased and have been redone by hand.  The tricky part was to find a way to "blend" RL terrain with hand terraforming, I think I have done a pretty good job of it so far.

This area has never been previewed before and I thought since you guys here have been so nice and such a great small community, that I would tease you guys a bit with this.  So here comes an overview of the valley as it stands today, please be warned the first pic is rather large and that is why it is in thumbnail.

What do you think?  I showed the city grid for your reference aswell.  Like Beskhu3epnm said it is a VERY large map.

Excellent work, beskhu3epnm and jplumbley

@ jplumbley: Why do you have four times the SC4Terraformer-box??

jplumbley

Hmmm... I dont know why that cam out...  I cropped it out in paint but for some reason they saved witht those there.  Weird!!

oh yeah the trick is with the tree controller to make it max density in all areas, the trees will match up perfectly and you will get no square tree tile outlines

mightygoose

heh so why is part of the region photoshopped out??? but awesome work...
NAM + CAM + RAM + SAM, that's how I roll....

Alek King of SC4

hmm it should be fine i did not photoshop it as i do not own photoshop, the image was taken directly from region census, obviously i went into SC4TF and modified a few tiles around the cbd but i don't think that is what you were talking about  &mmm
