Small Update 41a

Even though it is very hard for Mayor Steven Bartlett to keep up with all the demands and necessities the town needs these days, he was able to add a small personal touch to the welcome visitors to the town. Four signs were displayed at each entrance of the town. The cost for those signs were absorbed by the taxes of the commercial sectors.
««" To encourage the commerces of our region, we need to be inviting to strangers and visitors. A welcome sign surely helps this matter. In October next year, 1965, we were selected to present the Annual Commerce Exposition (ACE) of Simland and besides beautifying the town and commerces , we also have to build a warehouselike building where the interior expositions can be held. Why not build a new Arena at the same time which will fill 2 holes with one load." Mayor Bartlett stated at his monthly speech at the townhall,"The council and I have decided to go ahead with this project. The location will be on the grounds near the National Museum in Access Valmore and the costs will be absorbed by donations from the commerces and a substantial governmental subsidy that I was able to get from the Governor.
Commerces are blooming in Access, which is excellent for our citizens, bringing us services, accomodations and jobs."»»

...and Mayor Bartlett has made his point again.

True, commerces are growing out of the ground like weeds and downtown Access seems to have problems finding enough space for them. Big commerce projects also have been planned, buissness men like Nethaniel Wellington is about to give us a bigger Clubfoods Outlet, a Cardealer also is arriving to Access and investors from Beecherfalls are thinking about constructing another shopping center more in the Access/ Valmore area, and finally Tom Kohler has announced to build a Bus-terminal with a small hall of specialized boutiques.
Access is growing Big Times....

For the third year in a row, the Access Construction Players won the Regional Soccercup of 1964. Next year, four more clubs, including the powerful clubs from Lakefield and from the Capitol will join the regional play, meaning more people will come and assist the annual competition. Maybe it is time to improve the Gabber Park and it's soccerfield, the Mayor thinks.

Just a small update before you all fall asleep.;)

Very cool entrance sign there!  Also, another very neat edition of where they live that I missed as well.  I really love the lumber mill, I know I've said that a lot, but it really bears repeating!  Looks to me like you could put together a fairly extensive modular sawmill pack with what you've got there!

Always looking forward to the next update!

nedalezz

Loved the little update. Access certainly is growing very fast, and the commerce can only be good for the local economy.

Great little sign, Fred! Looking forward to the rest of this update ;D

Great work! I love your updates (even the small ones) for the planning and forethought demonstrated. Love the sign too and little touches like that add a great deal.

I hate to drag you back to the past, but I have a nagging question. Back in update 39 pic 12 and 13, there is a red (gray or blue in pic 13) building, presumably residential, that has staircase terraces up the back with multiple floors. Any clue where I could find that? Its a pretty cool building.

KoV Liberty

Nice work. ;) I like all updates here. :)

Alex

My new MD. Check it out if you wish.

Adrian, I miss you man.

To be honest cubby420, I have no idea where these are from, all I know that they exist in 4 or 5 different colours. I have a Pluginsfolder of more than 14 Gb at the moment and I honestly cannot remember what I have where they're from or what they're called.
But, maybe someone here will be able to help you. I will query the building the next time I go play and let you know the name. With that you may make a search on the STEX or LEX, one of the two that probably holds this model.
All I know now is that they are R$$ and growable.

Thanks folks for commenting.

Great little update Fred!!  But I do have one concern,  I am all for the expansion of Gabber Park but there are 2 homes north of the field?  I would hate for these people to lose their homes over this  :D

Glad you had this concern about the two homes west of the Gabberpark.

Well, I gave the matter to the council and they took your suggestion into consideration and came up with the following, which will be studied in the next months:
Down south, just on the Town's limits is a big lot (12x9) just laying there totally abandonned between some residentials and the rails and north by the newly planned Commercial Center for 1966 and south by some farmland. (see picture below). No one would like to have a home close by because of the train. It was once kept for a possible industrial Park, but since they are about to change the existing industrial park close to the airport area, this lot comes somewhat handy just intime for the newly planned Soccerfield, leaving the existing Gabberpark free for a children's park with sandplayboxes and slides. I am sure that John Gabber would agree with this also.
This way, the two houses west of the Gabberpark will be saved.
The townhall will not change its size,(2x2) except for taking two lots that once belonged to Highway 15.

Now concerning the model that cubby420 asked about, I querried it and came up with this picture below, but a search on the LEX and STEX did not result in anything. Hope we have someone here who can tell where this set is from, if not, PM me with your e-mail address and I will try to find it in my pluginsfolder for you. ;)

Nice! Wheres the train station going to go?

mrbisonm

Trainstation?.....What trainstation?
As you know this rail is a commercial line only, no passenger trains are yet to expect and there will be one Freight station in Phlox, T.S.Slye is taking care of that for his sawmill. Besides, Western Rails doesn't want to spend money for a Freight railstation in Access, because there's not enough demand for it. ;)

Great work Fred. I love your updates. Going back a few I have to compliment you on your mill (pic 6b). You've inspired me. I may have to make a giant one as well. From your most recent update I am drawn to that sign. I would love to see more of this kind of thing released.

Take care.

I really like all that I have been seeing here, Fred. Access Center seems to be turning into a really sophisticated city.

Thanks Geoff for the compliment. Glad that I got you inspired to make your own sawmill. Not to compete with anyone, I will upload mine one day, maybe we could use the same ground textures if you make yours to upload, just to complete each other and create some variety for sawmill lots. Most of mine can bee seen on the last picture of the sawmill, only a new (quite big) railstation and wood-loading dock will be soon seen in this MD. (btw, I can change the groundtextures if you want to use another one easily.

Glad to hear from you Ethan and just_a_guy. Thanks.

A small update is always better than none, right? So, while I don't have much time to make bigger updates, I'll just keep on bringing smaller ones. Hope you'll like them as much...

UPDATE 42 (december 1964, three weeks before Christmas)

It is just before Christmas 1964, cooler weather has arrived. Mayor Bartlett and his counsellors have been busy changing the town's face in the last months. The old Elementary school was torn down last week to make room for the new Highschool and kids are now going to school in the basement of the new church until the new Elementary school is finished, in 3 months. Also bulldozers have been clearing some land and lots for the arrival of the Governmental buildings next spring in the are designated for them.
The young fellow that likes to keep himself in the dark most of the time has come up in the last municipal meeting again complaining and stating his point of view. Adrian McCoy, the young man that once said that the garbage disposal site will bring us more problems one day than anything good, came out again and commented on the filling of the little pond in downtown that once was used to bring us the townwater. It was decided earlier by the council that it will be filled and build over, first it was said to be for the new Townhall, then to build other residentials. McCoy came up with the suggestion that it was our first natural Park and since then has been appreciated by most of the population. He said that *sometimes you can see a great heron in the water or a duck or two that stops by to get fed by the surrounding residents, but also lately someone has seen a group of goldfish in there* (can you see them?) These are maybe little things to the council, but of some importance to the Citizens of Access, he says, maybe worth considering. The water is clean now and does not smell like spoiled cabbage anymore.
The council said that they will take it under consideration and see what the public thinks about it later. Meanwhile filling the water hole has been postponed. Besides since they decided to build the new Townhall where the old one is, they have other priorities in mind.

Access Center is changing so much that some citizens can't find themselves around anymore, if they're gone too often or for a longer period of time. Not only is the Municipal Office doing their jobs to bring the services the town needs so badly, but also private investors are constantly changing the looks of Access with either changing, adding and/or renewing the streetblocks.
Just this week, four more buildings were built on a lot where one older and more and less useless building was torn down.

pic2

Just too bad for Mr Welligton who didn't even know about the lots being sold, it just happened too fast, because he once wanted to buy the lots right in between his big Office building and his Bake n' Sale and the Red appartment block. He didn't believe his eyes when the bulldozer arrived and tore down the old building and was told that the lots are sold. He instantly complained not being informed and told the former owner that he was ready to pay more for the lots. Too late, I guess, since a new KFC franchise arrived, the first in the region. Fast Food is now finally available in Access. I bet that this will pay itself within a year or so.
Then a new theater, making competition with The Pit. They say that they have more and better seats available and soon better and newer films.- Feel the need for a good icecream? They have the BEST, they say.....hm.....funny, they're the only ones around in the whole region......
What we see actually is the west part (of the rails) of downtown. We know by now every building on this corner, including Access' first church. Only Wellington's Bake n'Sale and the church are left of the first buildings of Access in this location, everything else came later, the theater, post-office etc.
