Beautiful and inspirational pics a while back Robin. The rail bridge process was a great sequence. I feel like I almost never have the patience to get this kind of natural beauty manifested in the game. Great stuff that got the juices flowing. Awesome region pics as well.

nedalezz

Stunning! That waterfall is its surroundings are matched perfectly by the bridge, and the end result is simply art. Great update :)

*sneeks in from the corners* WoW Robin you're right I am pleased with what you have been doing for the last few weeks... I'm at a loss for words here and in awe of what you said and what others have said too about my work, I never thought in a million of years that Waterfalls MD by Pat would have spanned a far reach... So that I thank you for showing me and I most humbled in a time where its hard for that to happen.. I personally know how frustrating it is to work an area and all the sudden its not what was planned or visioned, poof gone and reworked to its right.. I do have to encourage you though that it will get better when you keep working with Nature, keep it up and I will be checking in on you more ofter for sure  &apls

Hello All,
Well....my vacation didn't go so well.
It got cut short due to some health issues and I spent the week in the hospital.  I'm doing well now and trying to get back into the groove of things, at home, at work and here on the site.

Anyways....
Here is what I have been up to....

Now all that was completely grown with CAM, so some of the details are still missing, but as I have the funds to pay for them, you had better bet that they will be added.
I have 12 medium tiles around one large tile, all the medium tiles are just about as occupied as I what them to be at this point, so soon I will be ready to start the large tile with a huge amount of demand....or at least that is my hope.  You'll have to just wait and see.

Black Red Yellow Green Blue
Green Yellow Blue Red Black

Look at the chart above and say the COLOR of the word, not the word itself.

Why is it so difficult?

Because the right half of your brain is trying to say the color, while the left side of your brain
is trying to say the word.  Everything we do is based on what we see visually not what we read.
Try doing the above chart both ways, which ever way is easier for you, that is your dominant side of the brain.

Mahatma Gandhi once said, "The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world's problems".

As always, I really appreciate reading everyone's posts.

The next update should be terraforming another waterfall, damn and some farming land. ;)
Until than...take care.
Robin

Hi Robin,
sorry to hear about your health, especially during the holidays, but glad that your back on track.

That mediterrean town looks already good so far and the various buildings work well together. Really curious to see how you will develop it further.

Just keep playing with my Mind,
Andreas

To all members out there that are unsure of thier work ingame and don't enter the SC4D Picture Competition, please read over this post.

After reading a post in the SC4D Picture competition found here, I decided to do something a little different that will hopefully inspire a few members to enter the SC4D Picture Competition more, found here.  I can truly understand why some people may decide not to enter, the picture quality has definately risen to new heights over the last year or so.  But how do you think even those members got as good as they have.  You don't just open the SC4 box and become a pro over night.  It does take some longer to learn than others for sure, but it does take time for anyone.

I have decided to show my progression from my first entry to the end of 2007.  My picture will always be the one that is 800 wide (the others are 750 wide or slightly smaller) and the first in the series.  I have also shown the pics I was up against and the finaly score as a reference only, and not to belittle anyone I was up against.  I have had my share of butt kickings in this competition over the years as you'll see below.

My very first entry, April 2007

I lost this round 10 to 5 against a very good friend of mine Masochist

Critique of my own pic. - I think this picture turned out pretty good, but could have been a lot better just by doing two little things.  Taking the picture a bit more to the right would have been better as the edge of the map would not have been seen and I think the minimize button should have been cropped out.  Not saying I would have won the round becasue of this but it definately would have helped.

My second entry, July 30, 2007

I won this round against urban 10/8.

Than my good friend Masochist......

but this time I won....10/0.

Than for the next round another good friend, Pat challenged and bet me 10/3.
His pic has been lost/broken link, unfortunately.

Critique of my own pic. - I have no idea why this picture did as well as it did....I think it sucks now that I look at it again.  It surely could have used a side walk mod so that they didn't change colours so often.  I remember being happy with the main street and the type of buildings growing there but there is that one high wealth res. that really doesn't fit in with those low wealth slum buildings.

My 3rd entry, August 2, 2007

I lost this round to callagrafx, 10/3.

Critique of my own pic. - I really like this one, even today.  The only thing I would change in today's times is use some smooth radius rail pieces and made sure that side walk on the one road was continuous.

My 4th entry, August 07, 2007

I lost this round to air6, 10/5, his picture has been lost/broken link.

Critique of my own pic. - I still really like this one as well.  Today if i were to do an area like this I may not use so many LOTs with Maxis props and I surely would have used more items from the new NAM/SAM.  Curved rail and dirt roads come to mind right away.

My 5th entry, August 10, 2007

I won this one against air6, 10/9.

I won against my good friend nardo69, 10/6.

I lost against FromTheAshes, 10/3.  The picture has been lost/broken link.

Critique of my own pic. - I was very pleased with how this area turned out.  It could use a few more small details, such as the the two empty tiles there right in the middle.  Today I would make sure I made full use of the NAM curves.  Also now I'd like to mention the number of pics above that have a frame of some sort, but not mine yet.  And that minimize button is still in all of my pics.

My 6th entry, August 22, 2007

I won this round against Patriots, 10/7.

I lost this round to iamgoingtoeatyou, 10/7.

Critique of my own pic. - Another picture that I was very pleased with at the time, but now I can see that a few things could be different.  There are a few too many buildings that are the same.  Three "State Street'and four of the blue and pinky buildings.  I know today that there can be some that are the same but more variety is needed for a near perfect pic.

My 7th entry, August 28, 2007

I won this round against Eddie, 10/4.

I won this round against Chrisadams3997, 10/8.

I won this round against bat, 10/4.

Critique of my own pic. - Finally, after seven entries I finally got a picture into the HoF!  I was very happy with myself and this picture.  I think today I would have taken the picture at a higher zoom, croped the minimize button and added a border.

My 8th entry, September 06, 2007

I won this round against Travis, 10/4.

I won this round against Emperor Stormont, 10/1.

I lost to Strechnitz this round, 10/4, the picture has been lost/broken link.

Critique of my own pic. - To tell you the truth, I'm not sure what I was thinking when I entered this one.  Sure enough this type of area can be found in anyone's MD/CJ but why would anyone show it?  It is very boring and has no real focal point which every great picture needs to have.  Today, I wouldn't enter a picture like this one.....ever.

My 9th entry has a broken link and I lost the round anyways.

My 10th entry, September 26, 2007

I lost this round to another very good friend of mine, The Tea Cat, 10/0.

Critique of my own pic. - This is a relatively good picture, but it does have a few problems.  I was using a shadow mod that was giving me strange shadows.  I really shouldn't have entered this pic with this sort of problem as the shadows do look very strange.  Since than the mod has been locked up.  Today you can find a lot more  downloads for fine details for this sort of picture.

My 11th entry, October 20, 2007

I lost this round to my friend Nardo69, 10/8.

Critique of my own pic. - I thought this was a good picture but when you read some of the comments others didn't like that that it was black and white.  I can also pick out about five houses that really don't belong in their surroundings.  I really should have waited for something more suitable to grow.

My 12th entry, October 22, 2007

Well I did enter the same pic in colour and won against another friend, tooheys, 10/8.

Here I lost against Nardo69, 10/8.

Critique of my own pic. - Good picture, now in colour, same 5 houses that don't belong.  Nardo69's picture was just better.  Maybe on another day I would have done better.

My 13th entry, October 29, 2007

Here I won 10/0 against a very good friend of mine threestooges.

I won against Chrisadams3997, 10/5.

I won this round 10/1 against penguin007 and that put this picture into the HoF.

Critique of my own pic. - At the time I was very happy with this picture as well.  Today, I think it is very boring, there are next to no people or vehicles, no life in the pic at all.

My 14th entry, November 01, 2007

I won this round against tooheys, 10/9.

I won this round as well against Moshi, 10/3.

I won this round against capo, 10/7 putting my pic into the HoF.

Critique of my own pic. - A nice picture in it's own right, but now I look at it and thik it could have been better.  The pic was taken too close as well, a higher zoom would have shown some nice terraformed land.  The pic does have some traffic, both vehicles and people, so it does have some life.

My 15th entry, November 05, 2007

I won this round against bat, 10/0.

I lost this round and with good reason against Capo, 10/3.

Critique of my own pic. - I thought this pic was very good and the title very clever...."Shadey Deal", with the thugs making a deal of sorts in the alley way.  Capo's pic was just better and someone needs to loose.

My 16th entry, November 13, 2007

I lost this round to squidi, 10/4.

Critique of my own pic. - Good pic, but the zoom is too close and some don't like black and white.

My 16th entry, November 15, 2007

I won this round against squidi, 10/2.

I won this round against bat, 10/0.

I won this round against penguin007, 10/2 putting my pic into the HoF.

Critique of my own pic. - Good picture, but could have been better.  It needs more life, some people and maybe other types of vehicles.  Minimize button is there again and the pic needs a border.

My 17th entry, November 22, 2007

I won this round against Shadow Assassin, 10/0.

I won this round against tooheys, 10/7.

I won this round against The_Hutt, 10/3 putting my picture into the HoF.

Critique of my own pic. - Good picture, nice parks, but what really made this picture so good was timing.  That BAT (xannepan's awesome work done on JENX Antwerp Cathedral) was just realeased and everyone was still so amazed by it.  This os most likely the reason why I won that round.  I think the picture is lacking life, not enough vehicles and not enough people, no one is in the parking lots.  I think the pic is rather boring now that I look at it.

I'm going to leave at this for now and see what kind of feed back I get and see if anyone is interested in going through the following years.  Thats all the pics I enter in the SC4D Picture Competition for 2007.  I entered alot as you can see and I did recieve a lot of feed back, for and against my pics.  For this reason, I believe my pics improved, even if just ever so slightly from my first entry to the last that year.

There is a Photo Contest Suggestion Box, here you can give any suggestions you may have.

I hope to hear from a lot of members that are in the circumstance or at least to see some members that have never entered a pic into the SC4D Picture Competition do so.

That's it for now,
Robin

What a wonderful trip down memory lane.

It was really good to see some of those pics again and yes indeed you can see the improvement from the first pic you entered. Still no border  $%Grinno$%  :D and that darned minimise button ::)

What I really liked was your critique of your own pics and what you think of them today. And I dunno about the others but I would like to see the other pics from the following years

And we only competed once against each other back then?  :o I'd have thought it was more :D

I liked this recap. A lot

till the next time
