Robin (rooker1): Ha! I thought you'd like it, my friend! Thanks so much!

TiFlo: Hello! Thank you for your kind words!

Arthur (art128): Hi, Arthur! I'm glad you enjoyed the borders, my friend! Hope to see you again soon!

Tomas Neto: Thanks!

i_love_lamp: Ha! Thank you!

djvandrake: Yep, it's a big map...but I have nothing better to do, right!

Daryl (daryl7478): I do have a lot to do, my friend! But we've got time!

An artistic digression...

Enjoy!

kwakelaar

Really a very interesting map, with some very distinct islands and waterways.

UPDATE LIII
The Highway's Jammed with Broken Heroes!
3 November 2010

With another highway update comes another Springsteen reference...Today, in our first true update in QUITE some time. I want to look at...

...well, highways!

In particular, though, I want to zoom to...

...here, and even more particularly, to...

here.

I've been thinking about highways in a less urban capacity of late, so I thought I would try my hand at some highway embankments. We start by...

...raising the ground and connecting the elevated highway to the ground highway. First a bit, then...

...the entire length!

Now, we stretch the ground highway on the embankment...

...across the entire stretch. But, I don't want to have such a steep and abrupt slope, so...

...we bring the embankment out a bit using some roads, then...

...give the embankment a grade, this time using Elevated Rail to find a medium-sized slope. Now...

...the other side! Bulldoze the rail tracks and...

...we have ourselves a highway embankment! Do some more grading...

...and there we have it from a different angle. Of course, though, not all highways run uninterrupted throughout the countryside, do they? Nope! Which means...

...interchanges! Not to mention...

...railroad crossings, too! Here's an overview...

...And finally—

A more "ready for primetime" shot!

There are many different ways and options with this method—longer slopes, different interchanges and crossing, etc.—but I think this irons out the basics!

See you soon!

travismking

wow those highways look fantastic :) nice update

djvandrake

Awesome "how-to" on highways.  I learned quite a few new tricks.  Thanks!!

Girafe

This is the end, hold your breath and count to ten, feel the earth move, and then...

All that work is definately out wieghed by the end results.  Although I am surprised with you that you did not go into LE and try to move those girders over to better fit the highway.  I know for a fact that that there is some room to do this as I have been playing with those same pieces recently.  I have also managed to change the base to jeronij's brick texture and I have used Mas's under bridge details.....just have a look at my recent updates.
Anyways great work.

BTW-how many traffic generators did it take to produce that much traffic? ::) ;)

Robin

Nice freeways Dustin! Are these in the mainland side of Marathon? I don't remember any freeways in the island.

travismking: Thank you so very much, my friend!

djvandrake: Thanks! I'm glad you were able to get something out of it! Hope to see you again soon!

Girafe: Thank you, my friend, for stopping by!

Robin (rooker1): Hi, Robin! You're always one step ahead of me, my friend! Next time, I will most certainly be in the LE playing with those girders. You always have a fresh outlook on things, it's so great to have your eyes looking at things here! Thanks, as always for your very kind words!

Daryl (daryl7478): Thank you, Daryl! Yes, it's on the mainland, but where? That's anyone's guess at this point!

It's after midnight, so it's official Marathon's second birthday! Many thanks to all of you who, over these past two years, have given so much support and friendship here, both in the light-speed early days and in today's more snails' pace. Without all of you, this venture would never have lasted as long as it has! Here's to two years down, and with hope, many more! Thank you all so very, very much!

And like the newspaper said...

Let me hear from all of you, who've made this such a gratifying and fulfilling experience!

Thanks again and keep on the lookout for more!

Fantastic end result on your latest update Dustin! Although I have to agree with Robin that the spans don't really work there. I believe they were intended for avenues which only have 2 lanes per tile opposed to Maxis highway that has 3.

You always seem to have the ability to make everything look pretty. Excellent progress in this MD, I've missed a lot!

Edit: Looks like you updated while I posted this reply. Happy 2nd birthday CoM!

rooker1

Happy 2nd Birthday!

Two years already?!  :o Wow! Up to the next to years.

Happy Birthday, Marathon!  I LOVE that newspaper!

Anyone know how to embed YouTube videos here at SC4D?

daryl7478

Happy birthday, Marathon. Let a good MD go well in the future.

kj3400

Alright. You got me. with that much expended on today, I guess I'll have to come out. :P

Happy birthday. Two years is a long time and you've done awesome things in that time. Here's to more years to come!
