Hope you have a speedy recovery.

After you told me what happen, I have been out looking for a helmet hut and a less open helmet.
At the moment I am riding at least 13-20 km a day.

At least here the car drivers are use to looking out for bicycles. The Copenhagens bikes 1.1 mio. km each day.

I'm a former competitive cyclist. The day one of my teammates got hit by a car coming at us full speed -in the middle of a race-, I saw many friends quiting right away. I also remember spending the next 20-30 minutes or so holding him in my arms, or what was still moving, while waiting for the paramedics to arrive (it was in the country, several races going on at the same time and only so many ambulances following us). My friend survived, though it took him multiple surgeries and several month off of pretty much anything that makes up life. His helmet probably saved him, as his head is the first thing that came into contact with the car's windshield.

No matter what the rules say, nor who's right or wrong, people have to realize that on a bike, your body is naked. The more it goes, the more I believe biking around is as much activism as it is sport, or simply a mean to move as it is for a lot of people. At least in our Western countries.

I wish you a speedy recovery, and hope you won't have any sequels. At least none that will prevent you to bike again.

In the meantime, happy Holidays to you and your loved ones!

Florian

Derry - I am so sorry to hear your news. Thank god you were wearing a helmet: here in Australia they are compulsory for that very reason.

I wish you a speedy recovery and return to full health.

We have the same rule in New Zealand

Ditto on the speedy recovery

Derry, I've missed you so much and have been wondering what happened.  I'm glad to know at last, but so very sorry to know you've had to suffer through so much trauma. You know we'll be right here if you need us, and you know we'll all be right here when you return.

I think the thing that would hurt me the most is having to limit myself to just 30 minutes on the computer. Several years ago, we were without power for three days due to a violent spring storm. We never did completely get rid of the claw marks on the ceiling above my computer. :D

Take care and remember you are loved and respected by the entire SC4D community! :)

I was wondering about you just today.  It has been a while since we heard from you.

I am glad you are okay (well, as okay as you can be  ;)).

It's good to hear from you Derry, though I wish it were under better circumstances. I heard you were in a crash, but I'm glad to hear you're getting back around. I know you've taken your knocks on bikes before, but yeah, that sounds pretty rough. Glad to hear the helmet did its job though. Hope this won't stop you from your Christmas dinner you'd been planning (or at least from making the most of that sauce I know you were planning). Take it easy Derry, and rest well (and yes, if you get it easy, take it twice). Hope to hear from you again soon when you get the chance.

Wish you all the best Derry, and have a very good recovery, my friend. Now i'll be myself even more carefully while driving my bike, cause I usually almost never use my bike helmet.. (I think I don't have one anymore or it is too small lol) Anyway, take care of you.

Your friend,
-Arthur.  ;)

Hi Derry,
What a shock! I hope you are recovering...

I also had a bicylce incident once. It was november 10th, 1983. I was just 20 years then. They told me I had crossed the street diagonally and I was hit by a low sportscar that must have been driving too quick in the city. I have no recollections of the incident. I woke up a day later in hospital with a cup of soup against my lips. My girlfriend visited me every day after school as I laid ten days in bed. I suffered from headaches about 5 years after that, but then they had gone and never came back.
It was quite an incident, but you have been unconscious for six days. Man, that's a long time!

All the luck in the world to you and I hope there are friends that can visit you. The disadvantage of Internet: friends are far away. They cannot touch you even if they'd like to.

So I wish you a ()flower()

Battlecat

I'm so sorry to hear this, and even more sorry that I'm so late in noticing!  I'm glad to hear you're at least up and about at least slightly.

I wish you the speediest recovery.  Hope you feel better soon!

TheTeaCat...

Cough Cough phew lot of dust in here.

Well then Folks this is a bit of a surprise eh? Its been a while since I've been here and a lot has happened in the past year. 2011 has not been a great year for me to say the least. Lots of bad karma came my way and I'll fill you in on some of it but lots I'll won't. Suffice to say I had to battle many personal demons ( some from my past) but can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. (And its been a loooong tunnel!!)

My apologies for not keeping you good people aware of what was happening but you will be seeing a lot more of me from now on.

Derry, it's just wonderful to know you're coming back to us with new ideas and ambitions for T@TT. It's also great to know you found the strength to fight back and declare victory over the "demons." If you can do that, you can do anything.

How long has it been since I had a nice hot cuppa? Well, that's too long. Welcome back my friend and fellow NUT. ;)
