Quote130 km/h becomes the default speed limit in 2012
Today has the Minister of Transport announced that starting at 1 september 2012, 130 km/h will become the default speed limit on Dutch motorways. The 130 km/h trials showed no significant impact on traffic safety or the environment. Almost equally important is that four out of five 80 km/h zones will disappear. Air quality improved enough to reinstate the 100 km/h speed limits.

Furthermore, most 100 km/h zones in the Randstad metropolitan area will disappear on intercity motorways. There will be 100 - 130 km/h variable speed limits, not only during the night, but if possible also during the day if traffic allows.

Only a small number of motorways will retain their 120 km/h limit, mostly because they've been designed in more recent years and do not allow for a safe 130 km/h limit.
More information about the deployment of this plan in the real Netherlands can be seen on Skyscrapercity:
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=413067&page=318

This is really great news, by the years to many motorways are returned from 120 km/h to 100 km/h and in some places even 80 km/h. This crap  &mmm was a default proses when roads are recently widened. As on the A2 to Utrecht to Amsterdam where the limit is 100 km/h. The A2 is here widened from 3 lanes to 6 lane and before the widened the limit was 120 km/h.

In New Holland will 130km/h also the default speed limit. At some places, this will require adjustment at curves or viaducts, this works will be included in the 30 bottleneck's program that currently in progress is. Furthermore, most 100 km/h zones in the Randstad metropolitan area will disappear on intercity motorways. There will be 100 - 130 km/h variable speed limits, not only during the night, but if possible also during the day if traffic allows. This requires at some motorways new portals for the dynamic information. All recently renovated motorways already have these portals and matrix sings, so also the A4, A7, A10, A12 and A26. And soon the next motorways will be accommodate whit matrix signs, A1, A2, A9, A27 and the new motorway A13.

The HSR looks so cool next to the huge freeway.
Nice to hear, that the speed limit in the netherlands was raised. Very reasonable decision.  ;)

Raising speed limits - I like it. withdrawing 80kp/h speed limits - I like it. withdrawing 100 kp/h limits... I like it.  Althrough I would prefeir 160kp/h as the general motorway speed limit.

Your HSR network reaches good dimensions, althrough it's a bit curvy.

Is that loco on the pic at the beginning of your update at nov. 27 an ES64U4? (I would even guess ÖBB 1216)

I do not know, i know not much about trains. But the final train for the Netherland's HSR network are not yet delivered.

HSR part 3
We start on the A4 at Rosmalen just after the last update. The former intersection, has been developed into a motorway junction. This is done in the context of the construction of the A13. The A13 is the new motorway to the east. And connect the A4 and A28 with each other. The connection was controversial for years because it is a crossing in a nature reserve.

For the HSR, there were not many choices, he had to run through this area. But how? a responsible solution is found by making a tunnel. Making a tunnel in an area with a high water table is difficult. The construction of the tunnel is not executed within budget and schedule. This has the consequence that there is no HSR traffic to Belgium at the moment. In another update will be more attention to the eastern part of the HSR and the A13.

The junction with the A13. Under the ground running the HSR and the 4 track line of the regular rail. There is also a tunnel made for a new tram . The old railway viaduct was demolished to make way for the expansion of motorway.

The HSR is placed in an above-ground tunnel. On top of the tunnel is the tram constructed.

Then we arrive at the renovated junction with the A10 and A12. This used a simple cloverleaf junction. Now there's a front deflector the tram constructed. and connecting roads are widened.

The A12 gets by the renovation a central median.

The central median we want to extend until after this junction. This should give a spacious feeling.

Back to the node, in the direction of the A4.

The other side of the node, the connection whit the A10 to Tilburg.

We are approaching the connection with the N14. The A14 viaduct has been widened during the expansion of the A10.

Here we see again the HSR. Thanks to the HSR, the two old viaducts of the N14 are removed and replaced for viaducts whit a 2x2 lanes profile.

This intersection is difficult to be expanded to 2x2 lanes.

The new road tunnel under the railways at Graven.

Again the ground crossing is demolished and there is a tunnel made.

Also here.

There are no viaducts made for the HSR on the RHW. Until then it just as.

Left and above the A4. Under the A12. Right the A10.

And lastly, a look at this impressive node.

That's all for this huge update. Next time we follow the A10 and the HSR towards Tilburg.

Very very nice! &apls

But why is there no  electric???  ()what()

Paul 999

I understand nothing about that! There's just electric enough available. It's awfully annoying  &mmm

nice highways! i like seeing highways with traffic on them.  since you have a lot of buses, maybe you could try a bus skin:

i think they would help make your highways look better, imo.  better than the default buses for sure.

nice work!

edit: oops...maybe those arent the default buses? i cant tell, they look similar.

You can get rid of these "No Power"-zots by using CTRL+X (opens cheat menu) and fill in "tastyzots". All zots will visually dissapear, but the problems are actually still there. However, it works great when taking pictures for a MD! ;)

Just a tip to make your great MD even better...

We continue with the HSR. We can see the entering of the HSR and the motorway A10 at Tilburg. The A10 is located in a tunnel above ground level. Tilburg wants continue whit the building of this tunnel, and end by the central train station and the motorway A7. The cost for this project will be enormous, but necessary. The A10 is an old motorway, with many restrictions for the traffic flow. Almost all crossings are ground floors which do not meet the current requirements for a motorway. There is no room for expansion in the future, a tunnel is the only solution. The rail track should be extended with a track for the HSR. The HSR can perhaps build on the roof of the motorway tunnel.

The HSR runs here on a long viaduct and crosses the regular rail track.

The current landtunnel stop after crossing the HSR and regular rail track.

The A10 and the yard for trains. The HSR runs here over on the regular rail track.

The A10 splits here, all the exit are ground floor. This are bottlenecks for the traffic flow.

The motorway, rail- and light tracks taking a huge space in through the city.

Here again a level crossing, these are real issues.

We arrive at the end of the A10. The tunnel leads to the beginning of the A7 motorway, the A7 motorway is the new access road to/for western Tilburg.

A look at the center of Tilburg.

And finally an overview of motorway tunnel and the rail track crossings.

Comments are always welcome!

Time for another update. The combination tunnel is open for traffic. The tunnel offers spaces to the HSR, the regular train and the new A13 motorway. The A13 is a toll motorway. In previous updates we have seen the cloverleaf of the A13 and A4, in this update we also starting with this.

The costs have tripled (same as in the real Netherlands  :'( ). This makes people angry, and makes the support for the development of the HSR network less and lesser...

The junction with the A13 and A4. Under the ground running the HSR and the 4 track line of the regular rail. There is also a tunnel made for a new tram line. The old railway viaduct was demolished to make way for the expansion of motorway.

Here comes the network above the ground.

The new station of Boxtel. This station serves as a hub, Boxtel is not a big place and generates not enough passengers to have a station of this size.

The A13 crosses the N268 ring road - Boxtel. The N268 is widened to 2x2 lanes.

The toll plaza. You see in the foreground a cycle bridge, compensation for the demolished bike path on the place of the new infrastructure.

The tunnel entrance. The tunnel starts above ground.

A better view of the N268 ring road - Boxtel.

The intersection of the amusement park is expanded. The park attracts more and more traffic, recently opened the water park.

The N268 has also get a bicycle tunnel.

There is now only a small part of the N268 with 2x1 lanes. The municipality of Boxtel makes himself hard to get even this last part widened tot 2x2 lanes. For now there is no response from the Minister of Transport, there is no money. All the money is requirer for the 30 bottlenecks program.

Overviews.

That's all for this update, comments are always welcome!

In the previous update we have see the first part of the combination tunnel. The tunnel offers spaces to the HSR, the regular train and the new A13 motorway. The A13 is a toll motorway to the east. The costs have tripled (same as in the real Netherlands  :'( ). This makes people angry, and makes the support for the development of the HSR network less and lesser...

The eastern tunnel mouth, the end of the 2.5 km long tunnel. On this side of the tunnel is the largest impact on the environment. A small village was bought out for the construction from the this new infrastructure.

Exit for the underlying road network. Many people take this exit and ride over the underlying road network to avoid the toll of the tunnel. Also, a lot of traffic from the exit goes to the hinterland in the direction of Belgium.

Junction A13 - A28.

The A28 crosses the new railway line and new HSR under a viaduct.

The bridge over the canal of the A28 motorway is widened to 2x3 lanes.

The viaduct at the exit has been changed to 2x3 lanes with 2x2 lanes continuous (A28).

Back to the trail, at the end of the tunnel mouth.

Here begins the huge HSR viaduct.

A railway crossing under the viaduct. Fully prepared for doubling track, there are plans for 4-rail track between Schiphol and Tilburg (high frequented rail connection).

Through in the direction of Belgium.

Overviews.

The environment of the project has greatly changed over the years.
1990 (N282 road with 2x1 lanes)

2000 (the N282 has been converted to A28 with 2x2 lanes, and Hoofdorp is built up)

2010 (the A13 is constructed and the rail and HSR link are build to Belgium)

That was the last update of the biggest project ever in the country. The construction of the HSR was an enormous task, that was sometimes difficult to fit because I had previously disregarded.

In the next update we will continue with the implementation of 30 bottlenecks programs for the road network.

Jaris

wow I really like the pics at the end which show developement form 1990-2000-2010.
I have to say though that my favourite is the pic of the year 2000. The RHW4 just looks much mor smooth and is more appealing to the eye.

rooker1

Some really fancy RHWing going on here and thats why when I was making my RHW system I stopped by here several times for some inspiration.  Great work and great pics!
