Finally!
Sorry guys, but Christmas days were full of happenings and some illnesses around here. I didn't have time to do so much as I hoped I could.
But now I have some things to show and that makes time to reply to you.

@ peter007
Thanks!

@ kelis
The flowers will be ready when.... the whole set will be ready. And I fear it will take some time. Sorry to let you wait.
I see that you use my released lots in your MD already. Thanks for that! It's the purpose of my work.

@ MrMAvE94
Thanks to you too!

@ supremec
Sorry, but you have to wait even longer than I expected.... The BNL team members are testing the first incomplete set of lots to see if they behave like they should in game: growing at the right time in the right amounts. I am waiting for the results. Some fiddling with properties will be necessary for sure. And then: when mrbisonm finishes his props I will have to revise the whole set.

@ carlfatal
Thank you too. I saw the RFR maize set on the STEX, downloaded it and the props are beautiful. I considered to incorporate them in my set, but I will not. The dependency list is already too long!
The chickens are actually turkeys by Simgoober..... But at this scale nobody will see the difference between turkey and chicken. I hope.  :)

And now, the new stuff.

As you might have perceived mrbisonm and I have opened a dedicated thread to our cooperation on the Dutch Farms Set. So for the newest images of my Stage 5 farms I redirect you to:

HERE.

Please have a look.

In this thread I will continue with lotting work that has no reference to mrbisonm's work. Like the rewards set that I will expand some day ahead.

Greetings, Frank

FrankU

As I told in the previous post my personal projects will be shown here.

After a lot of modding and fooling around with my farms set, and waiting for Fred to finish his props, I decided to go on with my list of Dutch Rewards.
I have my version of the State Fair to show to you. Here it is.

In the Rewards menu it will have this icon.

You Like?

I call this the Dutch Farm Fair. It is inspired on the fairs I find around here regularly in summertime. A functioning farm is used as location for showing regional farm products. There always are some food stands and in this case you can admire Simgoober's newest tractors and harvesters. There is maybe a sheep to stroke or a horse to watch. Adults take a beer or a glass of regional wine, and order a box of them, the children jump around on the trampoline or play in the sandpit.
That's what I try to reproduce on this lot.

I had some difficulties. The original model by Vanderaap is way too large in comparison with the other props. So I jumped into the Model Tweaker options. With some help by Cogeo and Carl (Lowkee33) I managed to make a prop with a 70% scaled down version of the model without breaking the copyrights of Vanderaap. You will need his model as a dependency. Furthermore you see two barns by mrbisonm/Fred. These are not yet released, so I cannot release the lot yet. We all have to wait until Fred is finished.

In the meantime you can comment on the lot. Please go ahead.
And also you can tell me what you think of the option of making a ploppabe CS§ lot out of it? A growable would not be to practical, because the lot is 6x12 tiles.

Have fun! Frank.

I'm glad an alternative is in the works. The Maxis state fair is an ugly mutt of a lot.

Hello Frank,
I don't post in your thread here as often as I should or would like to and I apologise for that.  Your work is always outstanding and unfortunately I assumed you knew that.  But everyone needs some praise every once in a while...right. ;)

I really like the idea of the above LOT, Maxis did a horrible job on their state fair.
The LOT looks great, the only things that I do not like are.....
-the brick road through the LOT, I would prefer a dirt, or maybe one of cp's tar ones.
-the barn right up against the house, seems to tight, I'm assuming that someone still lives in the other house.  A little more room around the house may look a little better.
-I would also like to see the house with some grass all the way around it...even if it were not very nice looking grass.

There's my two cents.
Robin

Thanks Jim and Mike!

Hi Robin,

I am not that selfassured on my lotting quality that I can live without any advice, appraisal or comment. Especially when there are no reactions I start wondering if anyone is interested in what I do. So thanks for the input.

Now for the lot.
I try to make the lot as realistic as I can make it. The reference are the farms around the town I live in.
If you'd like to take a look for yourself: Google maps, Deventer, Netherlands. Streetview is available almost everywhere.

A rare detail in the lot is the double house. That is also the charm of the model, but a farm with two houses is unusual. That's the reason why I did not use it for my farms set, but kept it especially for this reward.

Anyway, the first building of this farm was probably the white house. It was built in the 19th century and contained living quarters for the farmer and his family in the front part (first 5 to 7 meters) of the house. The rest was for cattle and storage. The path to the house was made out of dirt or maybe brick. Usually dirt, because bricks were expensive.
Later the farm was enlarged by the barn (in fact I should use a more old looking model, and maybe Fred will provide one, this one is a bit too new looking). Also the second house was built. The space between the house and the barn was utility space: for ease of moving it was laid with bricks, asphalt, tar, conrete, whatever was available or cheapest at the moment.

Later, maybe in the 80ies or 90ies the large barn was added for the cattle. The houses were changed into full residentials. The old barn is still near to the house. If you take a look at real farms in my surroundings you could see that the distance is quite realistic.
This week I drove my bicycle through the rurals and took a look at the streets leading to the farms. indeed it is very often concrete or asphalt. Sometimes brick, sometimes dirt. I wanted this farm to look a bit posh, so that's why I decided on bricks. Brick is nicer, more nostalgic, than concrete. And dirt is a bit too cheap for a Fair Farm, don't you think?

The streetwork in the back is a must on a functioning farm, so no gras there. The rest of the farmhouses: front and right side are grassy.
The idea of this lot is that it is a functioning farm that has a Fair at the moment. I could indeed make many timed props, so that only several weeks of the year there is a fair, the rest there is a functioning farm with haybales and cows everywhere. It's a lot of work, but also fun... hmmm..... It could be done indeed....

OK? So now the waiting is for Fred/mrbisonm to finish his props set. Then I'll decide about the barn and I'll probably add a haystack and some other props.

Very nice insight on the farm and the reasons why you have done everything.  I did indeed have a look around those place in Google Earth that you suggested and I can now see your inspiration.

FrankU

Yeah, Google Earth is fantastic, isn't it? Some time ago I read a book about Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the Caspian sea. I fired up Google Earth and took a tour!

FrankU

In the Nexis and FrankU COOP thread I told about the Dutch Farms Set that I was making. Probably you have read about it.

It took some time, but now the set is finished. I hope you will find out it was worth waiting for.

The set is finally available on the STEX.

I hope I can get some sleep now!
Let me please hear if something bothers you, is inappropriate or incorrect. I will then rework and re-upload the set as soon as possible.
I did my best and hope all is well, but I am not such a good scrutinizer and it's not hard to overlook some detail in a set like this.

And now onto the Farms Set!

In this thread I will continue my set of Dutch Rewards. Some day there will also appear some kind of other project and who knows, there will be a day that I fire up the game and start a region with my own lots.  :P

That readme is no joke!

Just to be clear, these are farm fields and wont grow without buildings attached?  Have you made entirely new prop exemplars for every model in the dependencies?

RickD

Thank you for releasing the farm fields. I will give them a try in the next couple of days. As it happens I do have some eyecandy farms to plop down. ;)
My name is Raphael.
Visit my MD: Empire Bay (My old MD: Santa Barbara County)

No problems so far  :) ::)

One suggestion that I have is to set the prop's "Is Ground Model" property to False.  This makes it so they don't cast shadows and will speed up the game greatly.  Most field props it's hard to see the shadow anyway, so you might not miss much.

@Lowkee33
Hi Carl, yes, that is a good suggestion. I should have done that immediately. Especially for the wheat and Simgoober props it is no problem. Maybe the appletrees and hops etc do need the shadows. I will experiment a bit. I think I will collect the remarks that might come and make a V1.1 in maybe two or three months.
And the answers to your other questions. You found them, I guess? The fields don't grow by themselves, but they definitely will grow with my upcoming farms set. You can plop already though. And, of course, you can add them to other farms you have made yourself or that you want to edit.
Indeed: almost for all fields I made special props. You find tem in the directory of the belonging field.

@RickD
Thanks!
