Hi folks!

I'm going to start the development of thr city next to Illian (to the east on the region map), this is how the city of Illian looks right now...

5.53 east downtown

5.54 Residential area

two closeups....

hope you like :)

Your downtown is looking great!

thundercrack83

Downtown Illian looks fabulous, meldolion! I love the highway tunnel in Picture 5.53 especially and the bridges crossing the canals in the last picture look great, too! Keep up the fantastic work, my friend!

Ennedi

Great update!

I like your side streets (5.53 - east downtown). It's a nice idea, I want to use it in future. I don't know if I'm true, but it seems to me I saw such side streets in Milano (one time I went to the centre accidentally because of heavy traffic before exit to Monza). There are such streets also in Barcelona along Las Ramblas.
Your canals are great, especially the harbour.

About "gritty" feeling: English is not my own language and I'm sure dedgren would explain it much better, but I will try:
First of all, it's nothing bad.
Gritty: of strong character. Also: naturalistic. Also: coarse (vs.fine)
What is the reason of such feeling (in my opinion of course)?
European cities have often a long history. Their borders widened more and more, and industrial areas blended with commercial and residential. Sometimes it is also an effect of strong development on a limited space (big cities in narrow valleys or surrounded by mountains)

Cheers

LOL, I just realised where the influence of your names came from (no, I didn't take a look at your sig), but rather because I am reading Robert Jordan's excellent Wheel of Time series (up to Book Three now...).

But anyway, you have some beautiful cities. It's shaping out very nicely.

More like, if they're left alone in the same room, they'll try to kill each other. :D

Anyway, your city is well-designed, but it just feels totally empty. It just needs cars, people, anything, to give it life.

Don't forget to fill in some of the empty spaces so they don't look so empty. Once you've done a section of your city, dress it up a little by adding trees. It'll make all the difference.

I like the effect of the road disappearing into the trees. It's an interesting optical illusion.

Luca- It's been a bit since I've been through Randland, and I must say that, while you don't update as frequently as some, each time you do it is a gem.  I really enjoy your hand-terraformed landscape each time I look at it, and you have a sense of place that takes me back to the wonderful couple of years I was fortunate enough to live in Italy.

Only a few more comments and page views and this fine MD will make the well deserved move to the Best Sellers category.  Thanks so much for sharing Randland with us.
