art128: Oops, you're right.. Thanks!
Kergelen: Thank you!
RickD: Heh yes, I'm going for an organic growth kind of approach for these cities. Build them without really planning it, and eventually ending up with all kinds of annoying problems because of that, just like in real life :P

Update: Episode 7 - Brown Box troubles
We build some MAVE-6 and try to keep development around it intact, but in the end.. brown box attack.

.... brown box attack....

Wait! I recognize those brown boxes from my game.  $%#Ninj2

Wait! I know what you can do. Check your list of plugin lists to find box replacements    :D

This is what happens when all the homes were demolished to make room for the avenue. The Sims had to move somewhere and a box is all they had. Bad mayor.   :(

Casper, this is a great idea you have here. I've always wished I could watch others play so I could find out how they got from point A to point B, so to speak. I've only finished a couple of the videos, but I intend to catch up and keep up eventually. I also like the fact you're showing the bad with the good, because it's something we all struggle with.

Good work...

Teaser picture today; don't have enough time to record an episode but did want to show you all the growth that has been happening..

Enjoy!

Much to my surprise I really enjoyed your episodes. Turns out watching someone else play simcity - and delivering funny commentary on the side -  is pretty entertaining!

Though I do agree with Arthur; try using the keyboard more often as it's way more convenient! Here's a list of all shortkeys. Looking forward to the next episode, keep it up!

art128: Hehe, yup, a lot of brown boxes.
jmyers2048: Lol, don't think a List of Brown box Replacements would have a lot of entries though :P
Jmouse: Thanks! Glad you're enjoying it. Yeah, SC4 comes with a lot of good and bad, and I enjoy showing my mistakes to everyone.
vortext: Thanks man, I'll have to look into the shortkeys. Thanks for the link!

Nice video (I've only caught the most recent so far) with a very interesting format  &apls  I've definitely been in the same spot as you with several of those small frustrations--the orthogonal road-to-diagonal road not drawing the smooth turn (I wonder if that's something that could be fixed as I can't understand why anyone would ever want that extra sharp turn there unless another road or street was intersecting), the difficulties of getting turns from MAVE-6 (someone should also suggest that 90 degree turns be possible for that network), and the confused and unwilling to go to work sims. It was interesting to watch someone else work through them and gave me a couple tips.

Are the missing house brown boxes caused by a missing Mattb325 prop pack perhaps? He has a number of houses that fit on the size of lot that seemed to be causing you trouble.

Lovely teaser pic as well

EDIT: Didn't realize you'd posted a new video as I still had the browser tab open from last night. New video is nice as well with nice explanation, particularly for the TIR bridge. I'd second what vortex said on learning those shortkeys. For example, the Misc Transport menu is always overflowing with stuff and el-rail is at the top. If you use CTRL+T for el-rail you don't have to go to the top for it and then after you use the el-rail the menu is still next to the station or GLR piece or whatever else it is your using. I know it saved me a lot of time and I was kicking myself after for not learning that quicker.

Keep it up

Arthur, vortext, noah: Thanks for the kind comments, and the tip for CTRL+T :D

Building some avenues, having mouse troubles, founding a new city and talking about the dangers of upgrading roads in real life. All that in one episode :P This one took me ages to get uploaded, had a lot of issues both on the editing and on the uploading side of things. Hopefully you'll enjoy nonetheless!

Enjoy!

EDIT: Woops, I should learn to read better :P

Thanks but it was actually Noah who said it!  ;)

Though I was thinking the exact same thing when I heard you complain about the scrolling!!  ::) :D

I just started watching your videos. I must say, it's very interesting to see someone else build a city and to compare methods. I also find it funny when something is not working and you have no clue why not, that happens to me a lot :P
I think I've been here long enough, call me Kenneth/Kenny.

I've been watching your episodes on your youtube channel and they are great! Its so funny to see someone else playing. Wish i had been on any of the live streams to add some live input.

Right now, i think you need to name those cities as i'm loosing track of were everything is, although it might just be me...

Anyway, looking foward for many more videos!!!

Great new episode, Casper! Watched it when it came out but haven't replied, don't know why though.

You could upgrade the tram in road to a tram in avenue on the first tile, where it was always congested. (near the classy as hell college)

I can't wait to see more developments on this new tile you are making. The first housing looked nice.

This one comes to mind. Its function is to ascend a slope, though, not to put trains on the other side (like cars would).

Nice picture, Casper (apart from the slopes). Haven't watched the video, though - 44 minutes?

Cheers

Nice work on the episodes there! Great to see a new city from you here...

Just finished both the stream and episode 10; great job overall.

Curious why the same type of bridges aren't available all the time, really strange.  ???

Your surprise over some lots that pop up is also rather funny to me as I play with fully customised plugins. No surprises for me, no sir.  $%Grinno$%
