No way that can be a Maxis lot. $%Grinno$%
Dang how did you ever that to grow?.

Sim Shady

lol has no one ever seen this?? its like my favorite maxis building in the game.  you need HUGE population to get it.  stage 8 chicago, r$$$  it dilapates easily though...

Bluebeard:  Hmmm... if I combine the two suggestions I've gotten so far, we have The Majestic Swan... that could work.  Maybe even put a couple "swan busts" up along the roof?   &Thk/(

Jason:  Thanks!  I was debating a full base and you sealed the idea now.   &apls for your 20th post... I've mailed a cake.   ;D

Fledgeling:  The RUSA apartments will have a couple options.  There will be single building lots, which should certainly be friendly with or without CAM... there will also be some larger megalot type complexes which will almost definitely need CAM to work.  If you have SC4Tool, you can easily adjust the growth stages, although care should be taken lest you upset the game's  balance.  I'm definitely using a nicer red brick for the hotel... but that's all I really know for sure so far.

Sim Shady:  I'd never seen that one either... but I see I'm not alone!  :D  That's a nice one.  I'm  glad you like what's coming!

Kevin:  Updates?  If you insist...

I couldn't leave this alone... I'll probably pay for it tomorrow!  But I got sucked in like I always do when the results start going the way I like them to.  So here's where we now:

I closed off the hole in preparation for the aforementioned (great word... doesn't get used often enough) base.  The building is fully enclosed now and I'm pretty happy with the roof overall.  The dormers probably need to be a little lower, but that's an easy fix.  Still lots of details to add and adjustments to make.  In case you're keeping score at home... there are now a total of  892 windows!  With the base added, this will top out at 14 stories, making it my largest building to date.   The  grain tower  is  roughly 12... otherwise I think  Taft and Hammond were both 9.  So I got a little carried away... what else is new?

JB looks excellent so far.
The Majestic Swan sounds like a great name.Thanx for the update.

zero7

I think the name would sound better the other way round - The Swan Majestic -'Swan' being the hotel chain and 'Majestic' this particular hotel.  Then after everyone raves about this hotel, as they're sure to do with it already looking so good, you'll be able to follow up with The Swan Imperial, The Swan Lakeside etc.

You know what's crazy, I was thinking the exact same thing earlier and almost posted it!  :o

But yes, I'll second that.  :)

Bluebeard

Zero I think your on to something.

Sim Shady

wow i love the roof job you did there  ;D

is it going to remain a green copper? i hope so.

DFire870

Ooh, great job on the hotel so far! Although I think the green roof needs to be lightened up a bit, it seems a little too bright. And I also like the suggestion Zero7 made about the name.

Sim Shady, I love that Maxis building! I can't get it to stop growing in my downtown area. :D

"Swan Majestic" has my vote too. Please include a PLOP for those incorrigible of us who prefer to make "designer" cities. Great work as always. &apls ;D

Is "designer" cities an actual SC4 community term? if so it is sort of a city that is built in like a "sandbox" form?

- JB - would it be hard to create instead of traditional gargoyle, maybe the Swan Hotel Co. should put their world famous Swan Gargoyle or something either at the entrance or at the two peaks of the building, or something...lol

Bluebeard:  Thanks!  The name is definitely staying...

Zero:  I like that name a lot!  Thank you!  Are you suggesting that I make more of these?  Hmmm... I have a bad feeling there might be another set coming...  :'(   :D

Cammo:  Vote counted... thanks!  I'll have to mark this page for the credits later...

Sim Shady:  Thank you!  I'm hoping to find a good tarnished copper texture, yes.

DFire:  Thanks!  The roof doesn't actually have any textures on it yet... that's just a color marker so I remember what I'm trying to do.

Simdad:  Thank you!  I will definitely include a plop version for this, yes.

Baconrocky:  Welcome to the thread!  Nah... that wouldn't be to hard at all really.  Something like this perhaps?

Here's the latest:

I adjusted the dormers a little and added some chimneys (which now need a small adjustment).  I added some swans... which makes the name officially "The Swan Majestic."  I started on the base.  There's some things I like about it and some I'm not so sure about yet.  The texture isn't permanent, although it's closer than I expected it to be.  I'm not sure if I want to keep the porch or lower everything to more of a street level entry.  Right now, with the steps, it's kind of a story and a half base even though the overall height would be enough for two floors.  I don't really know how I feel about the "office" windows in there either.  I thought it would be good to break up the front so it's not all huge windows, but I'm not sure if I like the result or not.  Anyway... keep the suggestions coming!

There will be more later...  ;)

Thanks for the welcome, ha, anyways, the building looks very swell, if you're looking for a way to spruce up the bottom level you could always add a Resturant, since most hotels have one. I am curious, is The Swan Majestic a 5-Star Hotel?

threestooges

Well now, the Swan has really taken off (pardon the pun). I agree about the smaller windows being necessary to break up the front a bit, but for such a hotel, it seems like the interior should just open up to the visitor as soon as they walk in the door. It does seem to do this just coming in off the entryway though. I can see those windows connecting to offices of the staff and perhaps a store or something, but somehow they still seem a bit small. I like what you chose to do with the base (it works with the building better than what I was suggesting... which you may have a pm about since I didn't want to clutter your thread). Perhaps you could remove one section of them to make room for a sign (every sim needs to know what hotel it is) unless you planned to put that elsewhere, but that's just a suggestion as well.

Bluebeard

Might I suggest dumping the steps and going street level and placing a nice canopy.Just a thought and thanx for the update.

Sim Shady

i love the base, but it lacks that refined touch of details that makes buildings so great.  I suggest you add some kind of ornate detailing around the windows and change the texture on the outlaying parts of the base * the pillar things sticking out*

Also some kind of canopy could look really good.

great job so far  &apls

Figui:  I apologize for missing your response earlier...  thank you!  And I'm glad you like the roof... it was kind of a new thing for me.

Baconrocky:  The larger arched windows on either side represent the restarant... or banquet hall... or whatever you want it to be.  5 Stars?  That is also up to you, my friend!   ;)  I just make the buildings... y'all can do whatever your imagination provides from there.

Matt:  Thank you as always for such considered feedback!  Some of the trim around the windows got lost in the new textures, that's been fixed and helps to "enlarge" the look of the windows somewhat.  I haven't decided on a sign or placement yet, although I would think it would be fairly discreet and understated on a hotel of this stature.  I saw your PM and I still may incorporate that type of idea as an alternative... but I'll go into that if and when the time comes.

Bluebeard:  I was initially concerned with the steps as well.  A number of people on the BSC board suggested that they fit the building style quite well and I tend to agree with the reasoning I heard there.  As for some kind of covered entry... that's the "maybe" option that I will toy with later.  Thanks!

Sim Shady:  All the textures are still rough at this point, and will certainly get better.  There are still a ton of details to add as well.  I'm just kind of getting a feel for the arrangement of the base at this point.  Thanks for the feedback!

Pat:  Thank you!  And thanks for the picture... it's always great to see the things in action, so to speak!

Speaking of releases...
