Tiffany's looks great! It reminds me of some of the buildings in nearby Fredericksburg (which of course is a small town). I can't wait to see what you come up with next.

After a long absence, I'm back! And I will be starting a new MD soon.

JBSimio

Fledgeling:  Thank you!  I've used this blue a lot, but never so much of it at once.  I'm glad you like it.

Bluebeard:  Thanks!  I'll talk to Tiffany and see that you get a freebie now and then.  ;)

Figui:  Thank you!

Pat:   :D  Ah Rhinelander... how is the hodag these days?  I'm trying to remember where Glick's is exactly, but it's not coming to me at the moment.

John:  Thanks!  The next one isn't ready to look at just yet.  I kind of got carried away with details that are really too small and now it just looks messy.

Just a quick preview this morning.  The light leak for the Swan Majestic is still there, but it's rather minor and doesn't even show up except for the closest zoom level.  I slapped it on a temporary lot and put it in game anyway just to see what it would look like:

So the big question at this point is:  Can you find the light leak and is it bad enough to go back and keep trying to find and fix it?  Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

JB I don't see no stinking leak. ;)
Art isn't suppose to perfect so I think it's time to move this awesome hotel to the next step.

I like that tea shop a lot. It would fit in well in a UK setting, and with the clean brick texture it looks like something built in the 90's in the UK  ;D
I find that alcohol, taken in sufficient quantities, can bring about all the effects of drunkenness.

Is it that thing at the top left part of the top floor? If it is, it's not apparent, if it's not, then I can't find it. It'll be interesting to see this thing lotted.

simdad1957

I presume the light leak is just under the roof line. If so, it is so inapparent as to be inconsequential. Don't worry about it. You can drive yourself nuts with perfection and absolute perfection is usually not worth the trouble.

I look forward to seeing this beauty properly lotted. The entrance to the hotel is absolutely begging for a driveway turnabout in front. I can also see decorative flower gardens in the front of the building; on either side of the driveway. I can't wait for this to be finished.

Getting back to the doctor's office/clinic discussion, you are quite right that any building could serve as a doctor's office. Many of the older physician's here in Moncton actually have their offices located in older houses close to downtown that have been converted from former private residences. Younger physicians however tend to locate their practices in office space located on the second floor of pharmacies. The pharmacy usually gives the physician discounted rent on the office space but in turn, the pharmacy benefits from being "just downstairs" from the doctor and tends to make out like a bandit on prescription fees generated from the patients. This is the reason why I suggested the possibility of a pharmacy/doctor's office as a potential "clinic".

Tiffany's Tea Shop is really "cute" small-town feel, but it is lacking life...it looks too plain, perhaps a sign somewhere saying what it is...or planters under the window?

JBSimio

Bluebeard:  Thank you!  The next step is underway...

Toxicpiano:  Thanks!  I'm glad you like it.

Matt:  I think you might be one of the few people who found it!  Which tells me that I don't need to worry about it and can move on.

Simdad:  Thanks!  The first lot preview will follow shortly.  Your thoughts about the pharmacy make sense.  I do have one drugstore in the series already (the first release actually) but that won't stop anything.  I've already got a name... so I just need an idea for the building (which I may have too, but I haven't started playing with it yet)

Baconrocky:  Thanks!  I'll see what I can fit in there somewhere.

Here are a couple of shots for the first lot attempt on The Swan Majestic.  I'm fairly happy with it so far.

I'm sure there are still some things it needs and a few things that might come back out... but that's what I have at the moment.  Suggestions always welcome!

cammo2003

I spotted the light leak as well.  :P I did have to look pretty close to notice it though, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. You're actually lucky that it is where it is - I think you can sorta palm that off.

I love the way the light spills out on to the balconies by the way. Very subtle.

Liking the lot as well. I wouldn't mind a more "urban" lot also for the narrow building, as I can easily imagine fronting the back to a "laneway" (which would simply be a street). If you don't feel like doing that, then it's OK, I'm quite happy to do tweaking with the LE.

Oh, and don't forget to do CAM versions! There's at least one CAM user that would love to have this in their cities (ie myself).

The Tea Shop looks great, can't have too many corner buildings (corner lots are something Maxis neglected alot).

Jasoncw

Yeah, I wasn't imagining any grass or anything on the lot.  It sounds like you'll be making a smaller lot too though?

JBSimio

Cammo:  I will be making a smaller lot, yes.  This is the 6x4... the "ultra urban" version will be 6x3.  It will be CAMpatible for sure... the smaller lot might be CAM only depending on where the stage falls.

Jason:  I wasn't either at first... but then again, I rarely have a set plan in mind.  I just let stuff happen as it will.  But yes, there will be a smaller lot as well.

Since I was having a bit of a lot editor day... Tiffany's Tea Shop is basically ready.  No big surprises here.  The lot looks like just about every other SmalltownUSA lot.  Simple and easy to make!  :D

Tiffany's will be in testing by the end of tomorrow.  The Swan Majestic may go in by the end of the weekend, but that's pretty tentative at this point.

JB your Smalltown USA series is the only reason I'm enjoying working on my rural areas. I have to say too, you are a machine! Soooo many works of art on the way. Thank you for your work.

Oof! Your thread moves too fast for me!

I was going to say that, since you were going to re-export anyway, you could always scale the hotel down slightly (97.5% in the x and y directions -- it would be virtually undetectable) and it would fall within 80 m, but looks like you've already exported again!

Regarding the light leak, after carefully studying the BAT, I found it, but man, it's really nothing to worry about.

I *love* the new tea shop. It will fit in perfectly with the sections of my downtown that feature your Smalltown BATs!

Pat

LoL Jon gezzzzzzs i miss a day err well most of yesterday in stopping in here and i miss alot of progress wow.... If the light leak is by the pipe then its hardly noticable, if that aint the case well shoot i agree with what matt (3stooges) said you cant see it all....  The Swan and Tiff's is perfect my friend i wouldnt change anything any more on those 2....

Back on pg 32 my pic i showed you about the Riverside PD that is copper roof.. My mom told me, cause i had to ask her lol.... Next time she is in that area she promissed to get me pictures of the PD and the Water Tower that is there as well, it looks like a midevil castle tower...  The Hodag got dressed up for holloween and now hes donning his hunters hat getting ready to hunt himself a nice turkey.... So hes doing pretty good now sitting in front of the chambers doors... As far as GLiCK's is concerened, there on the corner of Brown and Davenport street...

Jon you have a good one and will see you next time - pat

gezzs not only did i bring you over to page 36 but made the 700th post too lol....

the swan majestic looks really nice, but i have some suggestions (if you don't mind):
- i'd make the car entrance a bit narrower, it just need to be the width of one car (or limousine), maybe i'd let some space between the first step of the stair and this entrance.
- i'd not use trees in front of the main entrance, maybe some bushes or, more likely, flowers.
i also had not imagined a lot that "fat", i'll be waiting for the narrower version  ::)
anyway, this is great job, i'd like to see the majestic in some of my cities however you decide to finish it  :P

till next time,

Caliban:  Thank you so much!  I'm glad you enjoy the set.

Nofunk:  Thanks!  I thought about scaling it down to fit, but I had the lighting done already and I've run into problems when I do it that way... I don't know why exactly so I just try to avoid doing it.

Pat:  Thank you!  Man, that Hodag certainly stays busy!  I didn't know he was a hunter...  :D

Figui:  Thanks!  I don't really want to change the driveway because the next step down looks more like a path than a driveway to me.  I'll definitely do the narrow version, although it will be much more stripped down... which is why I'm dressing this one up a little more.

Thanks for the comments!  I'm stuck at work forever today so I don't know that I'll get much done when I finally get home tonight.  We'll see what happens...

I like it but please dont leave the non-CAM people out too   :'(   with all these "CAM only" lot stuff. I know CAM is a bsc darling but they have essentially created two kinds of development types that can sometimes be mutually incompatible -- sometimes on sc4 devotion its all its either compatible with CAM or not compatible to put on the LEX at all. Most simcity users, total, dont use cam even though many people here do. Cant you make 2 versions for each?

vester

Hmmm, let me see ?

You could do you own version of it. You only need Maxis Plug-in Manager (PIM) and Lot Editor (LE)

CAM clean out in data and even out the data in a way Maxis should have from the beginning. Some lots have a way to big Garbage "production".

Pat

Or vester you forgot to high of job rate and residental stats too... Jon i hope you can at least play a little bit and we'll see you later today or tomorrow - pat
