LOL, Joan, great post there!  I spoke with Sir Bert Microchip and he said please tell Hooter that we'd welcome a team from Pitchfork Pass even if they don't have a stadium.

We know some of the schools in Pitchfork have a soccer pitch.  Surely some of the young Texans in town could get together and form a team.  Lack of a stadium does not prevent a team from entering, it just means they'll be assigned a "representative" that has a low star rating.  Still football is a funny old game, and every underdog has his day, so even a small team has a chance.

I'm sure we'll be able to find some alternative sponsorship deals if this doesn't appeal (there are smaller teams in West End that will step in if no entries come forward!)

Let me know what Hooter thinks and I'll pass it on to Sir Bert!

I'd love my team to participate, but my city is still in medieval times..in those times they didn't have real football pitches yet...hmmm what to do. Well, I'm going to dive into LE today and create a medieval football pitch for my team to play and train on :)

2. Home City name: Biroud
3. Home Region/MD name: Evergem
4. Team colours: Green, White

Optional information (that will help but not essential):

I'm going to write a comment about your update as well, but now I really have to go shopping for groceries..man hungry!

@sebes: I wouldn't mind seeing an MD made by you...and with 3 Dutch MD's we have a bigger chance of winning this tournament as a (sim)nation :)

@paroch: THe pictures of all the stadiums are all so nice that I wanted to comment on those as well

9.01  Imperial Museum
Great use of the parks there, I just love that BSC park release. The park/plaza on the right side doesn't look familiar. Did you create it? Only small things I don't like is the rollercoaster railroad and the changing street texture in the same street, but hey..that's just personal.

9.02  Wardouroda:
Now you've done it..placing a picture of the Roda JC stadium just when my hometown team FC Groningen is going to play them next sunday in RL :D A great picture of a typical stadium scene anywhere in Europe, very realistic, very nice

9.03  Regent Royals:
A stadium next to the church, why didn't they invent that earlier? Many people visit the church on sunday and after that, a nice football game. What a great way to combine religion with sports :) Again, great parks I see there, I hope nobody forgets the hand-brake when they park the car next to the stadium, that could become nasty. What's the building to the right of the stadium? That one looks really nice

9.04  FC Portland:
Grolsch....aaaaah, there is no substitute :) This is my facourite stadium. I liked it then, like it now. I think a bus-mod would make it even better, I really dislike the blue maxis bus..but again, that's personal.

9.05  West End United:
Are you a West Ham fan perhaps? The Canio park, West End and the great youth academy all sound so familiar :) Awesome pic btw, they all are..

Region graphic:
Thanks for the map, my medieval knights/football players are ready to loot...eh play ofcourse :D

Again  &apls &apls &apls for organising this tournament.

Thanks for your kind PM Paroch! I will enter a team in your contest, even if I have no MD. Maybe one day I will be able to show some of the region that I build, but I need a new PC first... The name of my region is Nieuw Amsterdam (NWA). The city of NWA is the capital of Nieuw Nederland, conveniently located on an island on the east coast of North America, called Manhattan. Does it ring a bell?  The cities nickname is The Big Orange  ;)

So, I proudly present the team of the Big Orange:

Mandatory:
1. Team Name: FC Manhattan (nickname: De Mets)
2. Home City name: Nieuw Amsterdam
3. Home Region/MD name: Nieuw Amsterdam
4. Team colours: Blue & White

5. Stadium name: Peter Stuyvesant Arena (Haarlemmerhoogte Stadion)
6. Stadium capacity: 75000

8. Teamkit: blue white striped shirt, blue shorts, blue white striped socks.
9. Fact: the oldest Football Club in the Americas, founded 1860
10. Shirt sponsor: PanAm / NedLloyd

Update 9a - 10th November 2007

Replies:

Bat:  Thanks for your comment.  I'm sure that there are some impressive stadiums in Capporth City.  It would be an honour to have a team from Capporth in the tournament.

Joan:  I'm glad you like the update and the idea of a tournament.  Thanks for entering a team, I'm sure they'll do Hooter proud.  I looked at the list of soccer teams from the MLS and I think I will select FC Dallas to represent The Seagulls - please let me know if you have an aversion to Dallas!

NASCAR Guy:  Thanks for your team entering the competition.  I'm not sure where in the US you are, so not sure which team to assign - how about the Colorado Rapids?  There is a team in England called Chesterfield (but they're not very good!).  If you have a preference on which team I should use to represent Republic Stars let me know.

Capo:  Thanks for your entry.  I have chosen FC Groningen to represent Biroud - I assume this is OK.  As for your comments - thanks I love feedback like this.  I have recently installed the slope mod, so I bulldozed the railway and rebuilt it, not so bumpy now!  I'm glad you liked the Museum Park.  As for the park/plaza it is called Blam FC Peace Plaza and I got it from STEX - linkie: http://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=17872
Good luck against Roda tomorrow and yes, I am a West Ham fan (see my avatar) and we have just beaten Derby 5-0 away from home  ;D.  Paolo di Canio was, and still is, my hero.  I loved watching him play, so Canio Park is my small tribute to him!
I know what you mean about the slopes on the Regent Royals car park.  I must remember to level the land before I build them in future!  And I agree, the blue buses are boring, I must look for a decent bus mod - if you have any suggestion please let me know.
Good luck t Biroud in the tournament.

Sebes:  Thanks for your visit and comment.  I'm glad you've entered a team, and I guess as your team is from Amsterdam, I should use Ajax to represent your team.  If this is not your preference please let me know.  I would be very interested to see your region, so good luck with the new computer.

I will post the profiles I've created for each of your teams tomorrow - having some issues now.  In the meantime, here is are a couple of water shots from Regent.
9.07:  Twin Bridges

I rebuilt them after installing the slope mod and they look much better!  They are the first bridges to cross the River Dinnium.

9.08:  Riverside Park

This is where one of the bus routes terminates (remember the transit map?)  This is a very popular spot in Regent, where you can have a bite to eat and a nice peaceful stroll.

I'll have more time tomorrow when I hope to give a fuller update and catch up with some other MDs.

If you're watching West End - I'd love to see your team in the competition, particularly some of the regulars, tooheys, rooker1, pat, thunder crack and nedalezz.

The people of Biroud are proud that their team is represented by FC Groningen, they are however fearful of this evil satanic machine called PS2. It's made of materials never seen before and when offered to 'plug it in' the people picked up their torches and had themselves a little riot :)

I will download that plaza for sure, thanks for the linkie. To return the favour: here is a bus mod made by Andreas on the STEX: Andreas BART Bus <-linkie, wich I like a lot. The nice thing is he has elevated rail, trains and monorails in a matching theme.

Thanks for the best wishes for the game, the teams are about equally strong so hopefully it's going to be a good match. I read about West Ham's victory, must have been a great match. I'm waiting for MOTD to watch the goals, I'm glad we have the BBC here :) When I was playing Championship Manager many years ago I always played West Ham...with Paolo di Canio as captain playing behind 2 strikers!

I've finished the stadium 'De Stal' so I will modify my entry post. De Stal is the stable in Dutch so it's not going to be a surprise what this pitch looks like...

About your pictures:
9.07:  Twin Bridges
Not many bridges look well together I think, but you pulled it off. The symetry is what makes the picture..very very nice!

9.08:  Riverside Park
It's good to see we share so many fine bats. The MAS embankment and stairs are a must-install for me as well, I really like what you have done with them. I would have never come up with the idea of building embankments on top of the other, that's the great thing about all these MD's: you can learn so much from looking at beautiful pictures!

The FC of Dallas will be fine, Paul. I think the idea of bringing your readers in on a tournament is a great idea. I especially like the fact that you have made it so easy for us to participate and planned it so well.
And the photos look good. I've seen many a twin bridge and occasionally see a train trying to keep up with me! They always lose, and you'd understand if you could see my car! :D

Until next time...

Ajax is the best team in the Netherlands ( :P )  so go ahead. I am thrilled to see how your competition will go. And with competitors playing in a stable, well, what more should I say... GO METS!

The bridges look great. Those two are also my favourite bridges, but I normally use marrasts waterfronts. They come with underbridge pieces.

Update 9b

Replies:

Capo:  "evil satanic machine", LOL, you crack me up :D.  Thanks for your great comment there.
I also meant to say "wow", De Stal looks incredible.  I cannot believe you have lotted a medieval football pitch.  I just hope that the goat and cows don't make too much of a mess near the goalmouth! ()sad()

And it's nice to hear you know about West Ham and Di Canio.  If ever you come to London you must tell me and I'll take you to Upton Park.  Incidentally, in the picture of the Regent Royals Stadium you commented on the church next to the stadium.  Well, at West Ham there is a small church that almost touches the stadium - where football touched religion!

Thanks for the linkie to the bus mod, I'll download it - But I hope to keep my docklands GLR mod, hopefully they don't conflict.

Also, you commented on the change in street texture.  I agree that this is not ideal!  I have the:
BSC_DAE_RoadandSidewalk_textures.dat
BSC_DAE_RoadEuro_textures.dat
BSC_DAE_RoadMaxis_textures.dat
Installed in my plug ins.  I don't appear to have any control over the street/pavement textures.  Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for comments re bridges and the park and I'll try and identify the building next to the Regent stadium for a future reply!!

NASCAR_Guy:  It's always interesting to hear of other places that share a name.  In the UK, Chesterfield is in Derbyshire and is famous for its church that has a twisted spire &mmm
Chesterfield Church:

Joan:  Thanks, as always, for your support - keep your fingers crossed for the tournament.  Glad FC Dallas are good for you.  And I'm intrigued about your car now.

Bat:  Thanks for entering your team,  You have been with West End since the start, so I'm glad you're here.

Sebes:  You probably know that in England Ajax is a bathroom cleaner!!!  I use the marrast's when I remember to level the coast line before building a bridge, in other words, not very often!!

Heblem:  Welcome to West End and thanks for your team entry.  I will prepare your team picture in the next few days - do you have any particular real life team from Mexico you'd like to have represent The Pioneers?

Dave/tooheys:  Thanks for entering a team Dave.  As per above, team picture in the next day or so.  Unfortunately no Aussie teams on the PS2 game, so if you have any particular European team that is close to your heart let me know, alternatively I'll pick one at random-ish!

Nedalezz:  Thanks for that and for the PM.  Your team picture is on the drawing board and will follow soon.

OK, enough of that, on with the update - over to Sir Bert Microchip

We've had five teams enter the tournament so far.  We'd love some more, so please feel free to send your team to West End.  Closing date is Thursday 15th November.

Here are the teams we have so far:

9.08:  Republic Stars - entered by NASCAR_Guy

9.09: V V Biroud - entered by capo

9.10:  The Seagulls - entered by Jmouse

9.11: FC Manhattan - entered by sebes

9.12:  Westmountain Soccers - entered by bat

I hope the colours are OK - the site I use to produce these pics only has a limited number of options - alas my technical skills are also limited!!

Heblem, tooheys and nedalezz's teams will be added very soon.  16 would be the perfect number, so still room for a few more!

Just to prove that life in West End continues, here is an update from Regent:

9.13:  Museum Park

Arguably the cultural highlight of Regent.  On the left is the Imperial Museum, which houses exhibits that show the history and splendour of SimNation.  To the right is the SimScience Museum which exhibits the greatest scientific discoveries made in SimNation.  This is where you can find out answers to questions like "how does SimGoober produce so many high quality BATs", What does "BSC" actually stand for and "Where does tooheys dig up his jokes"!  And in the centre of the park is the Regent Natural History Museum, which hosts exhibits from dinosaurs to colonies of soldier ants.

9.14:  City Plaza

This is the official centre of Regent.  The plaza is actually a square that traffic goes round (one-way road) and is home to the key administrative buildings.

9.15:  Overview

View from the south.

9.16:  Overview

View from the east.  Central district in the foreground with Little Amsterdam behind towards the top of the picture.

9.17:  Waterfront

You can see that some high risers have been built on the waterfront.  Proof that Regent is now home to a thriving business community and is not just a place for casinos.

9.18:  West Bank Living

Some classic medium wealth suburban development.  This is on the West Bank of the main canal, just across from Little Amsterdam.  Unfortunately that school only plays rugby and not football.  We will be working with them to try and change that!

9.19:  Viddiams

This is the worst neighbourhood in Regent.  But hey, everyone has to have somewhere to live!

That's all for this update.  Regent is now virtually fully developed.  I hope to bring you another update or two before we move on to a different town or city.

'til next time...... $%Grinno$% $%Grinno$% $%Grinno$%

Regent is looking superb, Paul. I see several elements here I'll need to place in my region when the time comes. The Museum Park is beautiful, but so is everything else. It all fits together so well, and I think I need to take some lessons from you! ;)
And I'm proud to see the tournament is growing, but it doesn't surprise me. The regulars here at SC4D love to interact and have a good time. That's what the game is all about.
