Mine hit exactly 2GB today  :P.  I should clean it up a bit

tkirch

Mine is 4.5 but 1.97 using SC4DatPacker

I rebuilt my complete plugins folder lately. I'm now stuck with about 1,2Gig on plugins. That is: only the files that are usefull. Deleted every text, html or imagefile. But that should be obvious, isn't it?
Now I feel I have everything I need. Which, of course, will appear to be untrue in the future.

I thought of using the Startup Manager to make different selections for different cities, but I'm just too lazy to figure it out and put everything in a neat order.
Of course I don't need 200Mb of harbour-related plugins in all my cities, but I still leave them there.

Of these 1,2Gig the dependencies-folder is about 400Mb....

Do you think putting another Gig of memory into my machine will speed it up?
Or is a quicker graphics card more effective? Mine now had 256Mb (type don't know now).

I think that more RAM always helps. DatPacking has certainly helped me immensely with loading times. For any upgrade, I'd say find the weakest link in your system. Could be RAM, hard drive speed, cd-rom speed (unless you're using the crack version), graphics card... or it could be a bloated operating system eating away at the resources you already have.

Mine is 1.13GB o.O quite large when you consider:

D DRIVE- 16.8GB (used 12.7GB)
C DRIVE- 29.3GB (used 28.7GB- Yeah I need to uninstall some programs)

All my info is on DDrive... where all the SC4 plugins are ...

The woes of using SC4 on a laptop  ::)

EDIT: I just installed a program *cough* FS2002 *cough* which took up more space than SC4 did, and now my C Drive is more healthy:
C DRIVE- 29.3GB (used 27.0GB)

Anyway back to topic, I should delete some pointless plugins that ive installed, some that don't work etc. to make my menus less cluttered and also to save space!

bat

Mine is now 2.04 GB big, 47 files (with DatPacker)

and 2.33 GB, 6951 files and 1354 folders (without DatPacker).

El Burro

1.5GB using Dat packer... I cleaned it up not too long ago from about 2.3GB, so it shedded a load... mostly Landmarks and Parks that I don't use/need.

Kitsune

Mine just hit 2.11 gigs yesterday. And the loading times still are not that bad.  ;D

My plugins folder is currently 5.31GB, and I use DAT Packer.

It would seem my folder is positively obese...... ()borg()

Then again I do use a lot of small lots and things that people have forgotten about, helps me create Atlantis. I intend to upgrade my RAM from 1G to 3G, that should hopefully help load time.

That's what I intend to do.
Will you tell us if it worked?

DFire870

My folder is now 2.46 GB, but that's before it's DatPacked. I just installed a lot of prop packs from here, so I haven't had the chance to run DatPacker.

If I get any money for Christmas I'm considering upgrading the RAM from 1 gig to either 1.5 or 2 gigs. I'd like to do it myself, but I have no idea how to install hardware in a laptop, let alone opening it up.
After a long absence, I'm back! And I will be starting a new MD soon.

oldrogue

Right at this moment ....3.18 gb....with dat packer and with about 10 or 15 new things waiting to be installed!   Sheesh.....only reason my machine still runs is the Datpacker....otherwise.....don't even want to think about otherwise :'(

Khiyana

I re-organized my plugin-folder, but now I have 3.3 GB in it and nothing is useless...And there are many things still absent....

Starmanw402007

My plugin folder is 271 folders and 860 files:D. I tell u that is big  :D.

I have 650mb in my plug-ins folder. Almost all of kevdan25 and SG's buildings I have downloaded. And I am the same as Khiyana, I use every bit of it. The Variety and different plugins is what makes SimCity great IMO...

JoeST

I am guessing its around 1.5 Gig, just because i have dl'ed almost all the LEX packs and all the CAM stuff but its not DAT packed yet LOL and some of it isnt complied with it yet... NOPE its well over 2 Gig unpacked without many stations and things

Just hit 2.5GB unpacked. There's a lot that can be cleaned up, soon as I get around to it. But I'm still waiting for more.

oldrogue

This is fun......do you realize how many of us (me first) need to go thru and "clean up" the plugins!!!  Only trouble with that, when I think of it, I always seem to think of something in the game that I'd rather do first....

As a side thought, if we could start the game and open a city in less than a minute......how many of us would double or triple the time playing ;D

Ah well, at least it keeps us off the streets and ..... no, not out of trouble...
