Well you asked for my advice so here it is.

On my exploration of container terminals after our friend emilin here sparked my interest in ports, I noticed that they were quite new in most cases, second they were never mixed with other terminals, like dry bulk, or general goods. On your lots there are warehouses, general goods, and ship docks (great idea btw) on the container quay. I would move these all elsewhere in the port and dedicate the entire pier to containers.

I took a look through Athens port and I love your idea of docking those ships together, very original and it adds a nice touch, I would add the ship props in LE though so that they touch each other and are not sitting on those ugly lots (you can see the concrete sticking out). Still quite genius though, I'm defiantly going to implement it in my ports.

You can view most of what I said about the dedication of the container facilities in this picture here. Its Singapore container terminal (truely massive, look how far it extends to the right). As you can see though its basically containers as far as the eye can see.

You can also see the truly massive amount of containers on that quay. I'd suggest putting 5-7 times more containers in close clumps than you did, you should have the room if this becomes a container only quay. I also noticed a lot of smaller cranes to move the containers around in the yard, I'm thinking of using the BSC container cranes that go in their rail yards when I get to my container areas.

Well thats my advice for the moment, I'm going to keep you updated via PM on the progress of my port props, and as soon as any one of them is done I'll be sure to share ;D

Oh look, I started a new page, congrats on 23 fine pages!

Ennedi

Robin, you are a great man!

The amount of work you put in these custom lots must be really incredible! And I must say the effect is great!
It's a real pain in SC4 we have too little place for every larger industrial/seaport area. So we had to find clever solutions to make everything as realistic as possible. Your last big lot is very interesting because of it's diversity, a lot of packs/bags/barrels and so on, much traffic and many different buildings - everything create a really busy look. You have a good eye to details, all diversified stuff you collected here is consistent. &apls

I wish you good luck in this difficult work, I'm sure I will learn a lot from you!

Whoa, that looks awesome rooker. Those homemade docks you've got there are just breathtaking. It's already hard enough to place those 1x1/1x2 seaport lots here, and you're messing with 6x17! Like SA said, I can't wait for an overview of just the docks, it's bound to look huge!  &apls

Good Morning Everyone,

Replies,

Shadow Assassin, I'm afraid an overview maybe a fair ways off.  So many things to do still.  ;) Good to read you though.
emilin, Thanks for the nice comment and yes that is another one of Nob's prop.  I like them soo much.  I think I will eventually incorporate all of his port props in my port lots.
bat, thanks my friend.
Pat, I'm glad you like my work sooo much that it looks like you are ready to eat it.   :D  As for the demand to share this stuff...well you'll just have to wait and see.
Dustin, (thundercrack83), Thanks for the nice comment.  And I am just learning, it's just takes me about three to four hours to do each lot, sometimes even more.  The biggest problem is that I have so many wanderful props to cycle through.  ;)
Dave, (tooheys), I'm sure it was the BarBQ next door, because I except no responsiblity for the drool on your key board.  :D  As for releasing something, you'll just have to sit back, relax and see what happens.   ;)
squidi, Thanks for stoppin in and the nice cooment.  I want the docks to appear as they have a lot of life, I'm glad you think so.
jmdude1, Thanks alot for the link.  I think I will just have to do that to those ship and maybe even add some more ship.  And yes it does take a very long time.  I spend about 4 hours, plus or minus a bit.   ;)  But I take my time.  I hope to see you back agian.
kimcar, Thanks for the suggestion, I'll see what I can do about adding something along those lines.
Yoman, Well, thanks for all those ideas.  I will consider them.  Actually I have decided to stand back for a second and reconsider how I am doing this.
Everyone should take a look at this link here.
This port is huge and has so much to look at.  I have new ideas in my head now.
Ennedi, Thanks for the very nice comment, although I would go as far as to say, Great man".  hehehe ::) But I like it.  ;) I do put a lot of work into each lot, but I work very slow and methodical.   ;)
Sober, Thanks for stoppin in and the great comment. When I am done I plan to have the biggest custom dock anyone has ever seen.
moooaaahhhahahahahah.  (That was my evil laugh)  ;)
But as I said to SA, it'll be along time, I think, until it's done.

I will see what I can do to get a proper update out tonight.
Bye for now.

Robin

Looks like your making good progress on the relots. You used those gantry cranes very well and have created a nice shipyard, now you just need a lock and it would be a drydock. Just one thing though, I wouldn't put a loaded vessel under those cranes, as they're intended to service ships, not to load them.

Sweet  Great work Robin. Will cede to Yoman's knowledge re the overhead cranes (I've got no idea), but they certainly do look good.

Solved my problem, plastic wrap on the Keyboard ::)

Cheers

God is that cathedral stunning. One of the most impressive BATs of all time. And you've used it in a pristine setting that just emphasizes its beauty. Another fine job well done

Good morning All,
And Happy Thanks Giving to all celebrating it today.

Replies,
Yoman, Thanks for stoppin by and for the tip.  I don't know what cranes are used for what, so thanks.  I think I have found something that will work a little better.  You have to wait and see in the next update, maybe.
tooheys, Yah, I think you are right.  I too think Yoman night be the pro here on cranes.  Good to hear you have a solution for your key board.   :D
bat, Thanks for the nice comment and you can call me Robin if you'd like.
Zelgadis, Hello to you, long time no hear.  It's good to see you hear and I hope you can start a MD here as I hear yours is about to end.  That's okay cause the next one will be bigger and better, they always are, take a look at mine.  It's my best one ever.  See ya around.
Pat, It's always nice to hear from you.  I'm glad you like it.
Yoman again, I must agree.  This has to e the most beautiful Bat I have ever seen.  The amount of work, time and details is absolutley incredible. I can't even imagine how many hours was spent on this one.

That's it, that's all....for now.
I will be back with more port docks this weekend.

Hi Robin,

You have been busy.  I loved looking at your port LOTS.  The effort put into them shows through, well done.  I've jsut PM's you some pics of Southampton container port and how they use straddle cranes to move containers around the port.  It's just another alternative.

And as for the cathederal and its surroundings - what a job, truly amazing.  It looks very very special.  The way you've mixed the canals, walkways and parks really works brilliantly.

All the best,

Paul
