JBSimio: Remember making those driveway/path lots? And the fact that to have function as C$$ (or whatever) the outbuildings of Westlake Modular need road access?

Well, solution for parking lots: the SAM - variation #1
Solution for pathways: Ped Malls!!

One last thing: if you are going to make an ivy walls set, PLEASE make sure to make a gate lot TE'd for street traffic, or a lot where the wall has an open gate and a wall segment on a 1x1 tile. that way, access to the REAR of the academy can be RESTRICTED. those gate lots could also have little gatehouses, perhaps?

wall/gate lot idea:

NOTE: This is something i whipped up in a minute or 2 in a program called Solidworks. It is meant to get an idea across.

Sorry for jacking your thread, but i needed to say this and words wouldn't work and the picture did.

Amazing is the first word that comes to mind!

It's looking great JB.
Can't wait for that set.

Bluebeard:  Well... sort of...  :D  I still have quite a bit of lotting and modding to do as well.  But we are getting closer...

Mauricio:  Thank you!

Duane:  Thanks!  Try not to get too excited though.  Remember what happened last time?  $%Grinno$%

Dragonhardz:  Hmmm... I'm not sure if it's that simple or not.  I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a lot about the inner workings of SAM, so it could be possible.  If someone can tell me that there is a way to make functioning "streets" that will only look like campus driveways on campus (and then teach me how to do that), then you may be onto exactly what I've hoped for since the very beginning of this idea.  Ped Malls wouldn't really solve anything as they only provide an alternate access to a building or lot.  Street access is still needed or it won't function.  With that in mind, I'm not sure I see the point there.  I'm not turning down either idea at this point, I just need more information and/or knowledge before I can make any type of decision.  As for the gate... consider it on the list!

Kevin:  Thank you!

Edge:  Thanks to you too!

CalibanX:  Thank you as well!

Pvarcoe:  And thank you also!

I'm in the midst of my first 12-13 hour day right now with the other one being tomorrow.  So, I probably won't get a whole lot finished this weekend.  I did want to respond to the SAM/Ped Mall idea right away though in the hopes that someone who knows more about those things may stop by and could answer better than I can.

Until I finish cooking...

and don't worry....I've taken my meds so won't get to excited :D

the SAM has a varition on the street texture that is a parking lot texture. ped malls would work if the outbuildiings had, say, commercial function. all that would need to be done is make a mass-transit lot (subway, bus, el-rail, etc), most likely bus, and just mod it so that it does not visibly produce bus automata. the cobblestone pedmalls would work fine for that.

however, if you wish to go with the driveway/path set you have already constructed, that's your decision.

it is your lot, not mine  ;)

Pat

Jon that is looking real good and with the flora and statue in the middle back section.... Thank you for clearing up the confussion before about the path way....

Well I think that statue thing works out quite nicely. As far as your SAM questions go I would recommend talking with jplumbley or diggis (they are two of the members, among many other, who I know have been working on it). Since you have the textures, it should just be a matter of creating the necessary files for it. I haven't been keeping up with the recent developments, but I'm sure they can tell you what you need in the SAM thread. I just finished my Civil Procedure final today so I'm a bit pooped (but at least I got what seems to be the toughest one out of the way first), so I'll keep this (somewhat) short today. I think all that is left is a few things on the patio and that should wrap it up nicely. With 12-13 hour days, make sure you get some rest, you don't want to get run down this time of year. Have a good weekend.

Duane:  I tried not to get too carried away.  The nice thing is that prime rib and turkey both just sit in the oven and cook themselves!  :D

Dragonshardz:  Now I'm even more confused.  If SAM already has a texture you like, I'm not entirely sure what you're asking for.   &mmm  I'm still looking into the ped mall part.  I'll have to look into the bus stop thing as well.  Different automata are spawned in sometimes strange ways, so I'll have to see if a bus stop can be made without busses.

Pat:  Thanks!  And you're welcome!  :)

Matt:  I'll talk to jplumbley shortly and see what can or cannot be done.  Glad to hear you're wrapping the semester up!  I nearly forgot about dressing up that balcony.  Thanks for the reminder!

Between cooking and serving and carving and whatever else I've done for the last couple days, I managed to get most of the ivy in place.  It needs a few touch ups... particularly in the back where it repeats a little more than it should... but that shouldn't take long.  I also added some roof junk and a few more details here and there:

In other news... this building finally has a name!  I just decided to pay homage to various friends I have scattered all over the place now.  "Olson" is one of my good friends that I see in California.  "Ahlers Memorial Library" and "Conger Acedmic Center" (which is the one I haven't built yet) are the other two LA friends.

Oh but wait!  There's more!  Here at Monkey Around Productions, we have very strict rules about overtime.  The biggest rule is that any time I personally have to work more than ten hours in a given day, the monkeys are also required to put in at least one extra hour each.  The consequences for breaking this rule can be extreme and I have been known not to order bananas for over a week in such times where disciplinary action was deemed necessary (and approved by those pesky lawyers)!  With that in mind... I'd like to present you with

Have a great evening!

Dang man, you do bats faster than I can read  :D

Your work is awesome.. Also I'd like to get a job like yours where you get 5 hour lunch breaks.. I know you can't be doing that on a REAL lunch HOUR! LOL

ok, JB, i'll explain through pictures as soon as i get home. right now i'm borrowing my cousin's computer...

Sim Shady:  Thank you!  Yeah... it's a large lot with a fair amount of empty space on it.  What's a guy to do?  ;)

Pat:  Thanks!  Your enthusiasm always brings a smile... I really appreciate it.  Just thought you should know...  :)

SC4Boy:  Thank you!  Five hour lunch breaks?  You forget that I'm the guy who feeds everyone during their lunch break.  If I get a lunch at all, it happens around 2PM and lasts until the first peson comes in my office to ask about dinner... or roughly 10 minutes.  :D

Dragonshardz:  No hurry... given the size of this project, I think there's plenty of time still!

Duane:  Thanks!  Sorry I'm making you play more... shame on me!

So... I think it's done!  I hope so anyway.  I'll let y'all decide that part for sure.  Here are all four sides for the Olson Academic Center, day and night:

In other news, I was thinking I needed some props to place along the various campus paths.  I'll probably make them into a random family for more variety.  (Having a trash can on every straight piece of pathway would kind of suck, if you ask me.)  I'm hoping for about five or so... one will be a trash can, and then these two.

The top is one of those emergency call boxes to the poor drunk freshman can call campus security when the frat boy won't take no for an answer.  :D  The other is a bulliten board for all those fliers that everyone likes to pin up all over the place... "stop the war," "boycott Wal-Mart," "come to our party and get hit on by frat boys"... you get the idea.  I'm open to other suggestions at this point.  They should be smallish things that you would find along the various walkways around campus.

That's all for now...
JB

Jon that is fantastic and I think your done with it as well IMHO!!!  aawww shucks im glad i bring a smile to at least someones face....

:)

Some other thoughts for the pathways

1.) Bench

2.) either additional piece but a place to rest on the grass, IE a picnic spot...

Other then those 2 thougths i dunno?? Either way Jon you are doing a great job!!!

Olson Academic Center is great  &apls
i agree with Pat about the benches and i would add lamp posts if there aren't anyone yet.. (although i think lights should not appear randomly, just appear allways or never..)

great job as allways

Olson Academic Center looks fantastic! One little thing I noticed though, it may just be me, but the clock on the tower looks a little small, considering there's a lot of empty space up there.

Anyways, I like the emergency call boxes and the bulletin boards for props, although most of the time the bulletin board is emptier than the light poles. :D

I think a bench would be a good idea for another prop, since I've seen those around my college campus. I also think some lightpoles would be good, and possibly trees/flowers in planters.
