I love region shots!  You have made such a wonderfully, realistic region.  Except of course for the white farm paths!  Hahah!  I've noticed the same thing in my regions, don't know why that is . . .

Thanks for your support. The bad news is: Yes it is the Prop Pox once again. The good news: I have an unpoxed backup which I should be able to continue with if I pay attention to a couple of limitations.
Anyway, here is the next update:

22nd Street Tunnel Project

The city council has approved a project to improve traffic flow around downtown Santa Barbara: a road tunnel under Alta Mesa.

30.1

The hills are a natural obstruction for zoning and traffic. The roads over the hills are low capacity surface roads. Going around them is a detour and causes additional traffic on US-101 or the city street.
To improve the situation a tunnel will be built to extend W22 Street under Alta Mesa.

30.2

The southern portal will be built here right under Cliff Drive. The intersection with US-101 will be reconfigured. Having the tunnel traffic cross the expressway on a surface crossing would be very inefficient.

30.3

Construction of the southern tunnel portal and the US-101 overpass are in progress.

30.4

At the same time, work on the northern portal begins.

30.5

The north portal is finished. A toll of 0.50$ is collected to finance the project.

30.6

The south portal and the overpass are finished, too.

30.7

The last step was building the access road to US-101. It will be upgraded to an interchange when traffic levels warrant it.
Hopefully some day there will be Tulep pieces to make this setup more convincing. I had something like this in mind: linkie. Or maybe a Continuous Flow Intersection, or even a Texas T? I can still dream, can't I? ;)

Thanks for all replies.

Nice tunnel! Seems like a good bypass solution. I'm curious to see what kind of interchange you'll add there in the future. Hopefully some future TuLEPs will help you with that intersection at some point.

Very nice pics, which show us the construction of the tunnels, good! &apls

Interesting update, and the pictures with the construction work are a nice addition.
And again the prop-pox, that is the second time around, is it not? Really bad luck I would say ()sad()
