OSITM #3: School Daze!

And now, the feature presentation.

Every monkey has to go to school. That's how they learn all they need to become productive citizens of Monkey Island. Today, we visit the upper middle class neighborhood of Chimpingham Estates and see the neighborhood school, Dr. Zaius Elementary. It is a high performing school, having earned Monkey Island's top award, the Platinum Banana, for test scores each of the past 3 years.


Here's Dr. Zaius Elementary School, pride of the Chimpingham Estates neighborhood.


It sits on the corner of Australopithecus Road and H. A. Rey Boulevard, which is the main thoroughfare in town. Right across the street from the school are the Chiquita Cultural Center and the Curious George Museum of Science. Both are very useful for the students of the nearby school and treasured by the local community.


Not all of the neighborhood junior monkeys go to Dr. Zaius. Some are sent to the private Vine Swinger's Academy over on Sir Peter Tork Avenue. This makes for some interesting rivalries when the two school's teams play each other.


Kids live close enough to school to walk or just swing from tree to tree.


A few lazy ones make their moms drop them off.


Whereas the older kids who attend Tarzan Manor High School are waaaaay too cool to be seen getting out of mom's minivan.


The school bus comes to get the TMHS students each morning.


Once the junior monkeys are off to school, the parents often head out to the neighborhood shopping center before heading out to work.

OSITM #4: Bananopolis Revealed

Consulting the mystical scrolls of the Monkalonia Encyclopedia, volumes Chimpan-A through Chimpan-Z,  one runs across mention of the ancient and majestic city of Bananopolis. It is the mythological founding site for Monkey Island. Many have dismissed the fantastic tales of the ancient city as a legend. But, Professor Bobby Jack thinks otherwise. He believes the legends are based on facts – facts blurred by the passage of time. He believes the scrolls are correct and that there is a city to be found. And, he knows exactly where to look. He's headed to the remote Valley of George, where research and divining rods have led him. As he hacked his way through the dense undergrowth, a few stacked stones appear. He's onto something! Let's see what the ongoing excavation has found.

We pass Ape Financial Institute's main campus on Orangutan Boulevard, headed to our next destination


Finally! We have arrived at the Monkey Island mint!


Sorry... no free samples of delicious golden banana coins!


But, if you save your bananas, you can afford a dinner cruise along the Banana River. It is a great way to end a day of sightseeing!
