I feel that the MD is truly compelling.  A masterpiece at the least.  The only suggestion I have to you is to use more medium density.  But maybe that's not the trend in this region.  Once again, fantastic pictures, keep them coming (as long as you don't fill your HD with them lol) and make them more diagonal-conforming because I know you posses the tools around here to do so.  Your experimentation with them is profoundly intruiging, and the widespread use of open grass has inspiried me.  wonderful indeed.

Todays mega update includes areas around downtown Fairbanks, as well as Durstrum University, and some surrounding points of interest.

Comments are welcome and appreciated!

Whoa, MT!  Great update, and some of your best pics yet.  FBX (at least that's what we call it here in Alaska) looks like it's really taking off.

Good Luck!

Ah.. yes.. that reminds me... Now that the Cup is over, will Rorysville be kind enough to keep the Pheonoia National Hockey team in your nation until the war has ended (wont be too long now..)

Well, I mean the other non-Victor Jovi members...

Of course we will. I may even arrange a charity tour for them against the RVPHL Teams(minus Jovi and Valacu who are now signed into the RVPHL)

WOWOWOWOWOW : this IS going to be Classic - mind my words  &apls &apls

The start of this MD is overwhelming. The first pics of the flag and the map are nice, but the pics of the CBD are starting up the fire in me: so beautifull, the choise of offices and stadiums, the layout of the infrastructure (marrast embankments do it again!). The ringroad arround the center proves that all is very well planned in advance!
The residentials ares are just adorable: the villas along the green streets must be a dream to live in! The condos's along the shore are probably unafffordable for most people....
The airport is pants-wetting realistic. How do you do that????
The port area is one of the best ever, so well fit together, even the apartment buildings for the workers (convenient close to their work area!) are very well planned. I love to see that you have so many transport firms and storage tanks added. Makes it so realistic again!
And if that was not enough, you treat us with an most impressive military area, and as a bonus a war going on, with some action shots...

Man - I know where this MD will be next month - and can predict where it will be after a few months  &apls &apls &apls

Tons of awesomeness here again.  The region seem very expandable, and you have been doing it realistically.  I can't wait until the farms and hills are developed out side that beltway-desing highway you have there. I would also love to see a central creek or river traveling up through the plains into the small hills!

With the war with the RNAI slowly winding down, and the Pheonoian capital retaken by Myonian forces earlier in today, I thought I'd leave the storyline for a bit (since it's clearly not everyone's cup of tea) and give you guys a more traditional update this week. I've been reading "The Jungle" for school this year, and the update your going to see tonight is influenced largely by the book.

Tonight, we will be looking at a very poor area of Fairbanks, commonly called "Packingtown." This area of old, dirty, and dangerous industry produces 96% of all meat products in the country.

First, lets take a look at Durham & Co.'s Meat Packaging Plant. Built in 1929, the factory has nearly cleaned up it's act as far as sanitation goes, but it is still a labor intensive and dangerous place to work.

The Stock Yards. Here, cattle, chickens, pigs, and a list of other animals await their slaughter in cramped pens.

From the stock yards, most animals are lead to this building, where they are killed, cut, and cooked. Nearly every part of the animal is used, and everything that isn't meat is sent to the surrounding buildings, where it is made into various other products.

The massive smokehouse. Fairbanks citizens consume more smoked meats than any other country in the world, and Durham's is happy to supply them.

The tannery, where leather is made.

Old man Durham even owns his own boiler repair shop, seen here.

The glue factory, where many a horse has met it's unfortunate demise.

The dreaded Fertilizer plant. Untold horrors await new workers here, many saying that death is a better alternative to life as a fertilizer man. Wages are minimum, the work is hot and extremely dangerous, while the plant is running the entire area is enveloped in a giant, foul smelling cloud.

One of the "Administrative" buildings at Durham's, where spoiled and diseased meats are doctored for domestic sale.

However, the packing plant isn't the only industry of the area, there is also a textile mill, a warehouse complex, and an insecticide plant.

Brown's Pesticide plant, maker of all things deadly. Safety here increased dramatically over the years, however industrial accidents are still common.

One of the many apartment complexes where immigrants, mostly Russian, live in cramped conditions while working for the packers.

The old textile mill, which used to employ almost exclusively women when it was first built. Labor laws have since changed this, but not much else.

The botteling plant, the newest and by far the nicest factory to work in. During business hours, lines of immigrants trying to get work here usually stretch across the property.

This government housing project, built in the 70's, was constructed to accommodate an influx of immigrants during that era.

"Little Russia."

Nearly 50,000 immigrants call this tight quarter home, many walk to work, even during the harsh northern winters.

Some housing complexes.

The Brown Building is the largest apartment building in the area, and one of the oldest.

Part of a highrise apartment complex built in the 40's.

Boarding Houses and flats make up the majority of Little Russia.

And here are the actual Chicago stockyards, circa 1944.

Well, thats it! I hope you liked everything, and for anyone who hasn't read "The Jungle," you probably should. It's a great book!

dedgren

That's a really well-conceived industrial sector, and it's great how you've acknowledged and illustrated the link to other community conditions.  This MD remains one of the current very impressive efforts, and I agree with the other commenters who see good things in store.

Very interesting update.  The best part for me was the industrial areas.  You have some super ideas.  The slaughter area for the cows is amazing.  And the fact you added to the rest of the ind. lots is very cool.  Great work.  I'll have to watch for the next update.
