Which China Maps Would You Like To See Released

Fuzhou
Ningdai
Shantou
Zhao'an North

Albus of Garaway

That looks wonderful, Blade! Absolutely perfect. When do you think it'll be available for download? No rush of course, I'd just be interested so I could try to plan my schedule accordingly. ;)

-Jason :)

I can't give you an exact time table on when it will be done, but it should be within 10-14 days hopefully.  I'll keep you updated on the progress.

It'll take me some time to add in the rivers, though some of them may need to be plopped because of elevation issues [I usually stop drawing in rivers when the elevation of the riverbanks are at 280M or 30M above sea level in the game].  Most of the river beds you can see in the northern half of the map are above that 280m level.

Keep checking back for updates

Sounds great!

I figured I'd have to plop most of the rivers, so that's not much of a problem. ;)

blade2k5

Ok, finished drawing in the rivers that I know of after looking at maps and google earth.  What do you think?

Ok, I'll take a look Negros Island and see what I can do:thumbsup:

EDIT: Is this the island you're referring to?

I gathered the data for the Philippines and after loading the DEM into Global Mapper, I realized that the island is way to big for a feasible map for SC4.  If you look at the scale of kilometers in the lower left-hand corner, you begin to see that the island is over 200km north-to-south.

The only way I'll be able to do this map is to do it sections and make a series of several maps to cover the entire island.  That could take quite some time to do.  The other way I could do this is to shrink it down in size after creating the 16-bit grayscale png image, but then it would not be accurately scaled for size or elevation.  Then again, I can't promise I'll even be able to get past the Global Mapper stage of the DEM conversion considering it would be a massively huge file.

So my question to you is, what do you want to do?

That looks wonderful, Blade! I can just draw the rest of the rivers with ploppable water. ;)

So, what's next? :)

-Jason

blade2k5

This is next   Rendering is 1/3 completed. ;D  Started about an hour ago and have 60 of the 180 tiles done, so I'm guessing another two hours of rendering to go.  I'll be rendering a bit at a time as this map is a memory hog and the game locks up after awhile. &mmm  I'm using the Italia Terrain mod in case you're wondering.

Wow! The map looks simply wonderful! I'm so excited to start playing around with it. So, once the tiles are rendered, would it be ready for download? That seems so soon, compared to the previous 10-14 days! Surely there is more to do?

Oh, and I really apologize for the size. I see that it's causing you a lot of trouble. I'm so sorry for that! You're a wonderful person to do it anyway! :)

I always give myself more time when I estimate a time table for maps of this size [and this I over-estimated by quite a bit :P ].  I actually spent about 5 hours on it last night just drawing the rivers in, then another hour this morning smoothing the river banks a bit to make them look more natural.  So, just in Terraformer alone which includes importing, compression and drawing/smoothing the rivers took a total of 8 hours over 2 sessions.  Including the rendering, it'll be an 11 hour process :)  As soon as the rendering is done, I'll make the sc4m file, see how large it is [hoping it's under 10mb] and then upload it.  If it's over the 10mb limit, I hope you have MSN or Yahoo messenger so I can send it to you that way as I don't have a place I can upload it to.

And it's no trouble, at least now I know for sure what the limits are that my pc can handle.

EDIT:  I just created the sc4m file and it's 11.1mb :o  Yup, this puppy is a monster all right :D

Blade, I think if you ask Barby nicely she'll be able to upload this to the LEX for you ;). Great work on the maps BTW, I've found my map of the moment - your fantastic Naples map. It's just the right size, and has a great balance between flat and mountainous terrain.

This I know, but I always try another method first for large files before asking   Thanks for the heads up though, I appreciate it :)  I'm glad you found one of my maps suitable for your game playing.  The Naples map turned out pretty well I think.

hmmmm, the island is quite really big.. i'm not an expert in making SC4 maps so actually i don't really have a clear idea on what's the best thing to do.. blade, if u can shrink the map to 16-bit png image that would be very fine for me. as long as it looks like the real thing.. lol..

i'll just have to entrust you the best way to make the map.. coz you are the expert here. not me.. do what you can do to make the map and take your time..

and blade, thank you thank you very much for helping me... thumbsup to u dude!!! :)

Why not split the map into four sections? As you said, it's 200km long, so I'd say maybe 4 maps, each one 8x12 or so?

I hadn't figured out how many sections it be yet, but four sounds about right.  Thanks for doing the math for me ;D

Like Shadow suggested, I'm going to split the island into 4 sections and go from there.  That way you can have them accurately scaled

I was wondering, Can you do the county I live in?

It's Cambell County.

Yes, I can do that.  It'll be a 9.5x10 large tile map and will take me some time to complete.  Keep checking back for updates on it.
