Hello everyone,

It has been a little while.  I needed a break from playing the game and the holidays were very hectic and things are now getting back into swing.  I have however been working on a few other things and everyone can see them over the next few updates.

Hey, there, Robin!
I love your foundation idea, my friend! That's something I've always wanted to delve into, but never got around to it. Seeing as you've helped me with everything else, maybe you could help with this too!
I love how you've used the MAS71 under bridge pieces in conjunction with those walls, too! That's such a great idea!
Oh, before I forget, too--that stadium is Safeco Field in Seattle, WA, by teemu_om. It's not on the STEX because of the file size but a link to it can be found in his thread at ST HERE: North American Stadiums. Hope that helps!

Just wanted to stop in here and wish you a very Merry Christmas to you and your family, Robin!
Right now, your boys are probably sleeping, but not for long, I bet! The excitement has to be racing through their minds!
Enjoy it, my friend!
Dustin

Dustin, thank you very much for the link.  As soon as I read it, I remembered.  My mind must be slipping, getting old maybe.  ::)  $%Grinno$%
Also think you for the Christmas well wishes.

Your newest update there is fantastic! Nice work on that area and fantastic pictures of it...

It's always great to see you stop by, I hope your New year has been off to a great start.

Hey Robin looking real good with the experitments and testing out of the walls!!!

Pat, Thanks my friend.  I hope all is well with you and that your year is off to a great start as well.

Hi Robin!

I really wish that I wouldn't be missing so many updates all around in this month.... :-[
I really liked the second teaser there.  :)
I wish that I could help you with the dilemma that you are facing but sadly I have no idea how to work with foundations... I hope tho, that you will find a way.
"The things in life" was a funny AND scary addition.
See you around!
Karin

Hey Karin, I haven't seen you around for awhile now, I hope all is well and it is always a pleasure to see you stop by and read your comments.

You've done some incredible work with this MD Robin.  As for foundations, I'm not sure what you're trying to do, but is this anywhere near what you had in mind?

Hey Jess, nice to see you in here.  I know how to make LOTs with walls but what I was trying to do was make a TE LOT with foundation walls so I can put the LOT right up against another transportation network.

Phewwwww, Robin....
It's been quite a job to read through all of the 53 pages of your MD.
Together with Emilin's "Building ports the hard way" your MD is the most inspiring on building ports.
I am really curious what has happened to your terraformed map with all the small piers and canals.
There really is no beginning nor an end to what I could say. I should have done that in the past. But I'll promise you I will follow your thread and comment when it is useful, instead of keeping silence for almost two years and then bursting out in words.
Some very nice work you showed here!

Wow....you read all 53 pages.  That must have taken quite some time.  If you like what you have seen so far when it comes to the ports, stay tuned for a surprise in the next few weeks.  ::)  ;)

So here I am doing a little experiment to see which on/off ramps I like better, you can see both chioces.

Not too sure I like this one.  It takes up alot of space.

Now this one is more to my liking.

I'd love to hear some opinions.
Now remember, either way I go the walls and surrounding area will all be done up to the nines, so it will look alot better.

John Francis "Jack" Buck (August 21, 1924–June 18, 2002) once said, "Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out."

Makes sense to me.  ;)

I know that I said I would go over this at the begining of January, well I forgot and it's always better late than never.

So if we look at the Key we can see "/2" in the second and third position.  This is to signify that you must divide the entire code in half.  All the letters are doubled.  If you do this right you should have something like this....

So, now you are asking yourself, "What are the numbers for and the last two letters that are in caps?"
Well let's pull them out and take a look.....

I think I will leave it at this for today and see if anyone would like to give it another try.
I would also like to remind everyone that two people, Ripplejet and threestoogies have already figured it out without any help.

Well that's it for today.

Robin

PS for Barby, I know I said I was going to do something else, but I changed my mind.  I don't want to dirty my MD.
Call me Robin, please.

I think, based on the wall you are using, the MIS elevated ramps are the way to go. Using the conforming walls you have, you could use the lot resizing technique to have a base texture.

* Warning: Shameless Plug Ahead! *

If you want to be really detailed, you could check out my tutorial on how to add props to resized lots. Although, all credit goes to Paul (squidi) for discovering this technique.

* End Shameless Plug *

As for your earlier question, I wouldn't recommend using those TE lots. If you want the road to be just purely eye-candy, then you can easily make them in the LE. Instead of getting that ugly stretched-out foundation texture with the 13-tile wide lot, you can make them 1 tile wide and thus eliminating any stretch. Just note that you can't make 1x1 TE'd lots and plop them next to each other.

Okay enough of my ramblings; I look forward to see where you go with this!

Well, I'd like to your choice Robin, but I prefer the first option, because there isn't a problem of texture even if that take a lot of place...
But I think that that depend of what city style you're using, because if you see on Google Earth some exit way (like Paris's périphérique...) you can do it like it's in real.

can't wait to see more,

Arthur.  ;)

Robin,

I think the second choice is not very realistic. It would mean that first you have to dig out a lot of soil, which is expensive, and then build an onramp, which is even more expensive. In real life the constructor would make a slope with the soil that is there. So that means your first choice.
I see that it is quite wide and I think it would be better if you would make it one tile less wide. That would also correct the fact that I can see that there is some high ground between the slope and the sunken highway.
I don't know if that is possible with the RHW, I don't use it (layziness).

In urban areas, I think you should be able to make something like you showed in the earlier experiments. In rural areas, there is no need for sunken highways nor for steep slopes and tight curves....

Perhaps I can offer some input:

In the first picture, you can put the ramp 1 tile closer to the road so it intersects right after the overpass ends.  That should save some space.
-Also, redraw the RHW next to the westbound offramp, it doesn't look right.

In the second pic, watch out.  The ramp leaving the eastbound highway will not work.  You need to rotate the raised road/El-MIS t-intersection so that the lines match up, establishing a working connection.

Like Dan, I have a shameless plug.  :P
-I have recently begun work on a RHW interchange guide which may be of some use to you. Thus far, I have only written a few guides, but it will expand as more content is added.  You can find a link to the new guide in my signature.

All the best,
-Haljackey

Amazing work throughout your diary here!  So much to see; you've given me some ideas for the future in my diary.  Looking forward to seeing what else you're going to come up with!

Oh, it's a very long I didn't see your updates ::)
So, I just can congratulate you for this new introduction, which is very nice (it's .gif, isn't it?). And I see there's a morale in the end too &apls
Just a little remark I can say: I find your RHW a bit too big, but if you like it how that, I respect your choice

Hey Robin,
Didn't read the whole 54 pages but went back (so far) up to huhhh well... back to page 47, I'm always blown away by the sheer amount of details there is in your setups! In your industrial sectors for instance, we can can almost feel the soot on the brick walls! On page 48 pic 64.2 that EL train station is simply amazing never seen that one before.
I'll continue to read backwards and keep you posted.
Hoping all is going well for you and family.
Regards

Robin,

For the off/on ramps for your highways, I like the second one for playing Sim City but if you were going for a more realistic version, I would choose the first one. I think that ramps are made very small compared to what they look like in RL but it does not make a lot of sense in SC4 to make a ramp 30 - 40 tiles long for major roads.

And in other news, I have finally cracked the code, should I post it here or PM you the answer :)

Hello Everyone,

It's been quite some time and I'm sorry for that.  But once you all find out what I have been doing for the last month with Dustin, I think it'll be okay.
I have just picked up something that I have been working on for a very long time and I hope I can get it all to come together over the next little while.  I'll have to see how everything goes, but I do have a little teaser for you all.

Enjoy,

I'll do some replies in the next day or so.

Well, well, well, Robin!

Had I known you were going to churning out such fantastic seaport stuff, I would have never approached you to help me out!

I will be waiting on the edge of my seat to see what else you've got in store for us, my friend! I can rest assured that it will be amazing!

Take care!

Hello All,

Here is some more progress.....

My end goal here is to make a huge modular Container Seaport with Rail.  ;)

Sorry for no replies, I'll try to do them soon.
