Great maps Bernhard and looking forward to your new update.

Nisha

Hi Nardo,

I am truly in awe of all the realistic and beautiful details you put into every corner of your region. I spent last evening looking at your rural tutorials and it has changed the way I approach farms completely.
I shall definitely be visiting this MD frequently and look forward to future updates.

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.

Replace "music" with "update" and you could've think Don McLean thought about an Urland - update when he wrote the first three lines of his great song "American Pie ..."

Hello To All!

No, I did not stopped playing Sc4, just the permanent RLS got a bit stronger the last weeks ...  I fired up Sc4 not more then three or four times at all ... &mmm

Before we start:

thundercrack83: Took some time but here I am ...  ;)
bat: Here we are! ;)

patfirefghtr: I never thought that ..  :D

kwakelaar: Here we are! :)

Nisha: oooh ... now you made me blush ...  &blush
Thanks for the compliment. Unfortunately I couldn't deliver updates as regularly as I wanted to ...

Tonight I have it with lyrics ...

I don't know where I'm going
But I sure know where I've been
Hanging on the promises in songs of yesterday
And I've made up my mind,
I ain't wasting no more time,
But here I go again, here I go again

Tho' I keep searching for an answer
I never seem to find what I'm looking for
Oh Lord, I pray you give me strength to carry on
'Cos I know what it means
To walk along the lonely street of dreams

Here I go again on my own,
Going down the only road I've ever known
Like a hobo I was born to walk alone
And I've made up my mind
I ain't wasting no more time

(Whitesnake - Sleepless Nights)

Update 17.4: Moitzfeld

One of the two remaining villages in the Braubach map. You've seen parts of it before in the railway mini-update as well as in the picture competition - one picture made it even to the Hall of fame!  ()stsfd()

I am rather satisfied with the railwayline here ...

The Klausbach is rather channeled between St. Georg and Moitzfeld. There is a small Seddlement between St. Georg and Moitzfeld where a small pond is fed by the Klausbach as a water reservoir for the fire fighters.

The Old Mill is the oldest building in Braubach. Originally standing a bit outside of the village it survived the great fire in 1874 that destroyed the whole village. The reason of the fire never was never cleared up, most probably it was either a spark from an steam engine of the fresh opened railway line or inceniarism ...

Don't dare to think this is just an ordinary soccer match in an ordinary village! The derby St Georg - Moitzdorf is not a sunday afternoon walk but catch as catch can - especially since St. Georg lost his own soccer place 25 years ago. Don't expect to see a lot of goals - most matches ended 0-0 as both clubs have a decent lack of goalscorers - but to see a lot of red cards - the record is set at 10 red cards (5 each ...) which is league record, too ...

The biggest house in Moitzfeld is the mayors villa built in 1975. Rumours say it has been the mayor himself who set the fire to get a decent place for his house ...

Moitzfeld has two churches: The bigger catholic neo-romanic Apostelkirche - build 1875-1881 after the fire not on the basement of the old church but nbext to the old cemetary. The old church was situated at the place of the mayor's villa.
The protestantic St- Michaels - church was built in 1955 by refugees from East Prussia who had to leave their houses after WW II.

A big garbage facility has been erected at the border of Moitzfeld despite of 10 years of protests against it. At least most garbage comes in here by train (that was part of the compromise that finally made the facility possible ...)

Nice and green. Can you spot the entry signal?

Don't ask for a link for this siding. I made it just for Darmok's Anduin Valley revisited, never uploaded it anywhere and used it the first time by myself. If Darmok is fine with it I might release it at the SFBT, though

Another view to this spot made it into the SC4Devotion Picture Competition Hall of fame ...  ()stsfd()

With a lot of garbage I close this update for today. I do have another update of this map before we move on.

Untill that

@All: Have Fun!
and don't forget to make backups!

Great update, and great pics my friend.  And of course my favourite part is the garbage dump.  Altough I don't think it should be sooo clearly seen by the people driving by on that road.  I think you should put up a fence of some kind.  Just an idea.   ;)  Otherwise I love it all.

Badsim

Hi Bernhard ,

I'm not an expert of rural scenes , but yours look convincing . Maybe too much of "one building per field " ... but I think that helps to fight against the grid which would be particularly annoying for a small rural town / village . The only thing I find truly out of place are these two Maxis' high tech(s) near Peg's solar plant .... maybe because I see them for what they're ... while they're something else for you ?

I love the way you use trees and play with gentle slopes .That's important details you're mastering perfectly ...
The closer views and the several-in-one (don't find the right word ) are particularly pleasant (a lot of small details to look at ! ) .  &apls &apls

Very nice update with a lot of great looking shots from Moitzfeld.
I think this is a cosy looking village. The combinations you have made with the growables and plops, like the Mayors Villa, the Catholic Church and the Soccer field surrounded by mostly residentials, are proof of your eye for detail. The trees help to make this have quite a natural feel, although most of the landscape is covered either by farm land or buildings.

tooheys

Hi Bernhard, another great update. I guess I'm a bit slow sometimes, but I've only just started to notice the subtle changes in elevation that you build into your areas. Another small detail that makes your MD look so realistic.

Beautiful details as always.

Cheers

Hello to All!

It has been a long time - again - since the last update. I am sorry but real life keeps me occupied (will be worse next year as I am going to become father in fabruary ...  ;) )

I thought it would be a good thing to finish Braubach with the last update in 2007 ...

But as always before we start:

rooker1: Thanks for the compliment! About the street: It is not a public street but serves only the small freight station, the farm and the dump (even though I don't want to live there ...  $%Grinno$% )

bat: Thanks for the compliment!  :)

urban: Thanks for the compliment!  :)

Badsim: Well, after seeing your last update I will definitely NOT sign this:
QuoteI'm not an expert of rural scenes
About the slopes, you know I found my style with not making everything plain and flat when the BSC Farming EP originally came out and they said farm fields have to be flat. As a child from the hilly northern Black Forrest and the Palatinate however I love hills and hilly fields and never accepted this - stubborn oldfashioned donkey of me ...  :D

Kwakelaar: Thanks for the compliment, my old friend! I hope you like this small village, too  ;)

tooheys: Thanks for the compliments! Those little slopes come naturally as I don't like it too flat - just see my reply to BadSim!

And now for the update. Sorry that there are not so much pictures this time ...

Kempenich

An overview:

Kempenich is nestled in the hills behind the Klausbach Valley. Its railway connection should have become a major line through the hilly countryside but the costs the tunnels and bridges necessary for that railway  killed the project. Only the short connection to Kempenich has been realized.

An overview over the small terminus. The railway station's building was hit in March 1945 by an Allied Air bomb and was the only building destroyed during WW II. It was replaced by a "temporary" barack untill 1995 when the station was overhauled and received its today platform.

The small catholic church has been built in 1805 and marks the center of the old (=catholic) village. The village expanded later with the arrival of the railway.

The buildings were mostly row houses built of the local red limet stone lined up along the old village road.

The railway station was built at the border of the village. with the connection of the railway to the neighbours Peterstal and Rhenbrücken the village expanded to the other side of the railway.
The center of the new village became the post office and ...

... the protestantic Christuskirche (christ church) as almost all new inhabitants were protestants. Interesting thing is that the old catholic farmers and the new protestantic factory workers and factory workers never mixed - only three mixed weddings in over 110 years ...!

Maybe they didn't mix as some of the new inhabtitants became wealthy rather fast ...

The graveyard was once located outside the village. It is used by both confessions and is said as the only place in Kempenich where people come together independent of religion ...

With this overview of the new village I close the map of Braubach for now

and wish you all a

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2008!!

Have fun

Bernhard

Ennedi

Bernhard,

You know I like your pictures very much - not only railways, but also rural and little town scenes
Similar to Badsim, I think your farms on gentle slopes are perfect.
But first of all I love the quiet, a bit sleepy but nice and peaceful atmosphere of these pictures  :)
I was many times in Germany, never stayed longer in one place, but I think there are a lot of places there which are similar to your region.

Happy new year for you and your family!

I like every update. You have a knack for finding interesting things to look at as well as making short one and two sentence captions that bring those pictures to life.

Welcome back, my friend! And with such a tremendous update! I love the railroads and the farms on the hillside--fantastic work! Keep it up!

bat

Nice to see another update from you!
And great last update there of the year 2007!
Braubach is looking very nice.
Happy new year 2008 to you, too.

Nardo69

Hello to All!

I hope you are not too shocked - a full update and a Mini-Update within a week ... but there's a reason for this: My last three pictures in the picture competition all went to the Hall of Fame (Thanks to all who voted for me here on this place, too  ) and Yoman said he would like to see the surrounding of the overpass in the last pic:

So I fired up SC4 for the first time in this year and made some screenshots (including a test version of Kenworth's catenaries for the smooth railway curves ...  ;) )

But before we start:

@Ennedi: Welcome my friend!
I wish I could tell the same from your country but the only places I saw in Poland are  Warsaw Fredric Chopin airport and Torun/Thorn (made some business trips to there). I always wanted to visit Wroclaw / Breslau with my father as he was born there before the war but I missed the right time and now he's too old.
There are a lot of places in Poland I hope to visit some day, and you know, I am glad that we live in a time where we can communicate peacefully without the old unholy resentiments!

Sebes: Thanks my friend! And here is even the first (mini-) update in 2008 ...  :)

jmyers: Thanks for the compliment! These short two sentences are all I can do as I am not a gret storyteller ...  ;)

thundercrack83: Thanks for the compliment! And here are some more railways ...  ;)

bat: Thanks for the compliment my friend! I hope you like how I began 2008 ... ;)

An overview over the corner of the map of Wallmersdorf with the small village Fierhlingen. The railway line that branches off the main line in the upper halt of the pic leads to Kempenich, where we had been in the last update.
Please be aware that this is map is still under construction!

Kenny's RegionalExpress in the smooth curve and his new testversion of the catenaries for smooth curves. I just realized I di plopped them a bit wrongly ...
Unfortunately I couldn't handle the graphic glitch at the overpass ...  ()sad()

The center of the village is the St. Peter - Church. Fiehrlingen has always been a fishermen village and so the chruch is dedicated to ST. Peter, who had been a fishermen, too, before he followed Jesus Christ.

This one is dedicated to the creator of the catenaries and the RegioExpress: A freight train and a RegionalExpress meet at the railway station.

That's it for today

Have fun and don't forget to make backups!

Bernhard

kwakelaar

Yes, Bernhard I do like this village as well and great to see that you are still developing your railways, they are looking better every time you update.

bat

That's a really nice area of the pictures there!
And wonderful overview! Great begin to 2008!
Looking forward to more...

sebes

Thanks - and yes, I do like this mini update.

I agree with Kwakelaar ... your railway-building-talent is developping to extreme proportions! The catenaries cause a boost in realism
