I like the mini-update. I find it funny all we can see on the great autobahn is a pair of city buses...

Cheers,
Kevin

A wonderful highway! Great areas next to that highway! Fantastic pictures!

Nardo69

Sorry for the bump:

@tooheys:
Dave, the blue I-HT is the Metakontext - here is the Linkie on the STEX.

It's from 2004 - Had some trouble finding it ...

Bernhard

thundercrack83

Thanks for that link, Bernhard. I forgot that I wanted to ask you about that HT building, too! And thanks to you, too, Dave, for asking a question my feeble mind forgot!

You're right...not very many put the rural aspect in the foreground. I think it takes some good urban/rural planning to figure out what to do to make it a) look good, b) function correctly and c) look good...did I mention it needs to look good? You've done a great job.

The autobahn...don't you just hate how things disappear when you've paused to take pictures? I do. I'll just pretend that the cars are speeding along at a very fast 195km and I just can't see them, either.

urban

Hey Nardo

I really like your work with the railways. it is the best railway system I have ever seen and people have propably told you that before but it's very realistic, since sometimes you see railways, wich are closer to a rollercoasters than to an actual railway....

Bernhard- The glimpses that you've given us during the month into your very special take on SC4 railroading have more than justified Urland's place among July's "Of Special Interest" MDs.  Each pic is, in its own way, a mini-tutorial on how to do rail (and, not to slight, many other things) in a way that achieves both the greatest possible realism and a beauty of form all its own.

Here's to the permanent defeat of the RL demons!  Thank you for sharing Urland with us.

It has been a great run for Urland here during its time in the Special Interest thread! I can't wait to follow along with you in the days and weeks to come!

Hello to All

Late but hopefully not too late ... I tried to do a regular update after the mini updates yet RL's grip was too tight ...

A word to the empty highways:  &scl()

In theory there are two reasons why you should build a highway:

A: Traffic density This type of highways are designed for speed of 80 km/h or less. Their main purpose is to transport as much traffic as possible, for this it is accepted if the average speed drops down to 50 km/h as long as traffic is running as the drop of speed increases the overall capacity. The on/off ramps of these highways are usually close to each other as these highways are to be found within dense urban environments

B: Travelling Quality This type of highways connects big centers. Its speed limit is higher than type A depending on national speed limits. Its main purpose is to decrease travelling time and increase travelling security. The ramps of these highways ar rather far away from each other.

Of course in RL A and B mixes up in every possible relation.

In Petersberg the Highways are type B, the little local traffic does not require highways. Since SC4 does not support / Calculate REAL transit traffic and I am not using traffic generators the highways seems to be empty ...

Now for the replies:

Yoder7652: Thanks for the compliment! :) As for the highways see above!

patfirefghtr: Thanks for the compliment. :) Again look above for the highway!

tooheys: And this is definitely the second reason for the empty highways!  :D For the link see my previous post!  ;)

thundercrack83(1/3): Thanks for the compliment!  :) As for the waiting time, well, you now. RLS ...  :'(

BigSlark: Thanks for the compliment! And as usual see above ... ;)

bat: Thanks for the compliment! :)

Nardo69: shaddap!

thundercrack83(2/3): You're welcome! ;)

threeswept: Thanks for compliment. :)
Actually in my case soem basic knowledge as civil engineer for infrastructure did help a lot, another thing is severe homesickness. I live in Istanbul but almost my whole life I lived in the northern Black Forrest in SW Germany. Even my wife said Urland resembles strongly resembles that area ...  &Thk/(

urban: Wow! what a compliment ...  &blush
Actually in my first year of Sc4 I build rollercosters and circles and RR crossing and a whnole lot of  other ugly things, too. Then I read Digby - a real classic CJ IMHO. Since then I use the rather strict BRF TunnelAndSlope mod, which helps a lot of making good looking railways (after you mastered possible slopes that is ...  :-[ )

dedgren: Dave, I really do appreciate this month being in the "Of Special Interest" - Section and regard it as a big honour which I am very proud of!  :)
My way of CJ/MDing has alwas been inspire and "get inspired" so I am really glad that I could give back a little bit to the community.
I just regret that I could have been able to do some more updates ... &ops

thundercrack83(3/3): Here we are!

And let me use the last reply to thundercrack83 as a direct transition to today's

Update 17.3: Around Braubach Bhf

Braubach is rather young town. It basically was founded with the railway. A secondary non electrified railway line is branching of the main electrified railway line to Rhenbrücken. Due to topography Braubach couldn't become big as it is limited by the river, the railway line and the hills.

I like this area. All kind of industrial types next to each other and close to the railway. I always liked dirty industry in SC4, maybe since it belongs together with railways ...?!?

Not much to say. Enjoy!  :)

A freight train from the secondary railway line approaches Braubach.

An overview over the industrial area. Small but not too bad I might say ...

Some more closeups from different angles. I am really glad that Marszar's great BAT grew here as I generally prefer not to plop!

The transition to St. Georg. A lot of small houses have built there merging Braubach and St. Georg together.

Another housing in Braubach. This area isn't finished yet, I quit at least 5 times without saving ...

And with that overview I glue all bits of today's update together.

Hopefully you enjoyed the last update in the "Of Special Interest" - Section (hopefully it is not too late ... !)

BTW: I regard the railway stations I have done until now as my "Pre-Kenny-Period.". Kenworth BATted some nice RR station that are on my harddisk for modding and lotting at the moment and showed me that most of my railway stations before have been TOO SHORT!!!!
A perfect example that you are never good enough for stop learning ...  ::)

@ALL: Have Fun! (and don't forget to make backups!)

Bernhard

Andreas

That futuristic building in the lower right corner of the first pic doesn't really fit in, but the rowhouses in Braubach...! *drooooooooool* Great work, as usual. :)
Andreas

Pat

Bernhard a very good update and a awsome finish to such a great month
That building in the first pic that Andreas pointed to looks more like its supposed to a artsie type...

A fitting finish in OSITM with shots of your superb rail networks and rural areas .

It is always a pleasure to drop by Urland and hope to be doing so for quite a while to come.

Cheers

Dave

PS, thanks for the link.

A wonderful update, Bernhard! The Braubach Bhf looks beautiful, also nice picture of these towns!

Hello to All!

Seems to be I was OSITM one month too early  ... Now I have more than enough news and stuff and pics and a lot of news for you than in he last two weeks of July ....  :D

@Andreas: Thanks for the compliment! :)
I guess I'll try the method you proposed over at Simforum.de (where any one interested may find the German version of Urland)

@patfirefghtr: Thanks for the compliment! That mentioned building is already doomed ....  $%#Ninj2

tooheys: Hi Dave! Faster than usual ... and again back to rural railways ... :D

@bat Thanks for the compliment!

Today - due to actual development in the SFBT experimental laboratories - this time by royal:

Mini Update: Railways like in the good old times

When railway signals where mechanical semaphores ... you may find the last exemplars of those in Germany, Austria and Poland but most probably not for much longer ... but now they are becoming available in SC4!

In addition to this royal made also new German RR crossings signs that replaces the ingame American style ones

Note: These are shots from the Betatesting - the oldest 24 hours old. Please don't ask for release date - they will be done when they will be done ... as usual ... ;)

These trials I made on the map if Silberstein, a nice peaceful hilly rural map that I might show in regular updates after Braubach:

The first trials of the new German mechanic signals .. I dreamed of doing something like this since 2004 ...  &hlp

Second try - I made these pics not yet 1 1/2 hours ago - this time in Braubach! The area around Moitzfeld is designed to be the content of the next regular update ...

Isn't this a nice group?

Do you remember the small freight station? Just have a look on the new German Type RR level crossings ...  %BUd%

The other head of the RR station Braubach-Moitzfeld. Again - the level crossing, the semaphores ... *sigh*

This overview over Bhf. Braubach-Moitzfeld shows perfectly the weakness of my old RR design: the station is waaay too short ...

Approach Signal with approach signs and suicide cows - diagonally!

In the neighbour map "Buckelstein the railway line coming from Slberstein ends at the Railway line coming from Braubach resulting in a small secondary railway knot:
(please note that there are a lot of construction sites on this map ...)

The railway depot and the freight station with the switch box

A bit further up to the station.
Note that royal has chosen a different level crossing sign for the grey streets - the older version which can still be found mostly on smaller streets in Germany!

Different angle

The other head of the RR station

The entry signal and another RR crossing with a grey street.

Please note that all shown railways are not main lines but secondary railway lines!

Have fun! (and don't forget to make backups!)

Bernhard

What a great update. I like the suicide cows and the rural aspect of it all. Super!

Hi Bernhard.
That is a lovely update.
Great rail as always.
And more diagonal farm fences, to die for.

Take care
Phil

bat

Wonderful pictures of that railway, Bernhard! Great looking areas around it!

thundercrack83

Poor cows! I guess the stress of life was more than they could bear...

Anyway, everything looks great here, my friend! I missed an update, but I'm caught up now and I must say (if I haven't before) that I love your railroads! And your farms are excellent, too! Keep up the fantastic work!
