The update!!
I started Liaane some time ago on ST,but i closed it down for some time ( just untill ST cleans up his act regarding to CJ and new members bashing)
So i brought Liaane here to show you all what i got! ( altough playing for a new audiance makes me nervous;))
I'll start from the begining...when Liaane was still young . i re-invented Liaane through the ages and it keeps on looking better and better.
Liaane-Old center
I'll take you back to the year 1457
The city of Liaane is a small inland village in the kingdom of Jubbela
.
The king of Jubbela, balthasar the 3th is only bussy with his wars against his neighbouring countries.
The people in the nation of Jubbela are poor because of the high taxes and are very unhappy with the king.
The people of Liaane were very upset with the last war, that literly took place in their backyards!
They decided that it was time for a change...a big change.
Guided by their beloved major Dennis, they started a revolution that would change the looks of the world!
In the year of our lord 1499 the people wrote a letter to King Balthasar

Again a very nice update from this city looking so much like the real thing, although the GLR station with the palms takes away some of the illusion ;D But with winters like we have now, you probably will see palms in the streets of Amsterdam any year now. %wrd
Sorry, no real Dutch bats from me, vanderAap and Haarlemmergold are the masters in that area, and Tag also of course.

guess this is the same situation as one of my collegaues had, he had his 2 cars nicely parked in front of his home when late at night a drunk driver hit one car, that hit the next which smashed into the tree. Three cars wrecked a light pole fall over and hit his attic too. alk about bad luck (the drunk driver managed to survive it all with only some scratches)

it's been a while, but i'm back!
i had a corrupt file in my plugin folder a few weeks ago and i lost 497 files!!
thank Madonna i saved my main building map somewhere else...so that one was saved!
anyhoo after many hours of re-downloading and re-instaling Liaane was back up and running again ( for about 95% )
so when i looked at the city i was ashamed what i did to her, i made her look ugly!
i was getting sloppy and hasty at the end. so i demod a lot and rebuild it again!
she looks far more prettier now...but you can enjoy the new pic in a few updates!!

This is the big pond.
The big pond is the end of the northern canalway
In the 60's The city council puted low resedential housing along the pond to coop up with the high housing demand.
The most of them were replaced in the late 90's by bigger and nicer houses.
The remaning rowes are stil an ugly scar on Liaanes beautiful face.
The people of Liaane love peddleboats.....so they put them everywhere they can :)

Opera square
The opera was built in 1876 and is loved by the cultural liaaners.
The Odeon was added in 1998. Which in his turn is loved by the youth of liaane.
After a viset to one of these two ( ore both) you can enjoy a nice dinner in one
of the nice restaurants along this square

After the people of those ugly 60's houses were kicked out of their houses they had to be placed some where else.
The city has built a nice residential area at the far westend of the city.
These apartmentblocks are low in rent so many poor and "starters" are living here.

so i had to zone...let grow..demo...let grow..demo and so on till i found the building that i wanted. But now with this amazing Mod i can just zone...let grow and remove the repeats. that makes it a lot easier for me, but for every "city Zone" i spent about 2 weeks to realise and make it perfect.
This tile is Liaane-old center, and Liaane-new center, Liaane-Haven and Liaane-... ( <---name yet to come) are going to be build when Liaane old- center is done :)

Very nice update again Fledder. I see quite some building that I've never seen before - you have quite an interesting plug-in folder there. The park and houses surrounding the Midnight Star Church is very much to my likings, with fantastic detail :thumbsup:

I took the decision to "LotEdit" an entire city , it's an hard decision (due to the time requested ) but when it's done , the way is so easy ,... trust me ; I'm not sure at all that I would be as good than you using only existing Lots . You know, I love your building style and your pictures are awesome, but if I could make one suggestion, it would be to get a sidewalk modd. I personelly hate the red brick sidewalk. Jeronij has a great one where you can decide what stays and goes. I have decided to make mine all low wealth (grey brick). Just a thought.

Very nice updates and very nice comments. Biggest laugh: "The That".
I love that Christmas market. Did you notice (of course you did) those well illuminated houses. Great Nitelighting, but why is the rest (the other row houses) so dark?
The Queen's concert hall is also well done. Well done those arabian canal pieces! Makes that building very special indeed.
The opera square (back at page 3) is a gem very well done and good placement of the buildings.
The titan hotel.....wow, I would liketo stay there just once.
The renovationof old Kingssquare is very well done. Nice to see those seldom seen construction lots in action. You just showed there one of the Dutch authorities favourite pasttimes: Breaking up streets and reconverting traffic (hey, there is a traffic jam...DÛH).
The park is a great place to spend some time. I love that ruined builing, once again great use of a seldom seen lot.
The midnight star church is very well placed. I love the way you put it in a park. I always thought that church on a "terp" (what's the English word for terp?) but in this way it looks great too.
Anyway, I am glad that the great and warm weather is over as I hope to see more of Liaane now ;D

im back! for now at least. things will clear up by the 24th. missed 3 updates, too. very lovely ones at that! i like a lot of things in those updates. the big dig, the queen's new crib and theater look smashing! so... which one's my house? ;D

All parts show that a great city architect has been sculping there. I think Rotterdam needed you back than after WWII when rebuilding the city center. ;)
There are several pictures that pleased me extra much:
- the Blahdy tunnel entrance: I never, ever, got the idea to replace existing tunnels with it. (It will keep me busy for the next weeks probably :P)
- the picture with the no-arrow OW street: it looks so "Jan Evertsenstraat" that I can almost picture myself strolling there! But what pleased me the most is the number of people of the street! In other Liaane updates I always noticed that there were hardly people walking, but here it's like the gay-pride-parade passsing by ;)
- the open bridge in SG canals... So realistic! (but if this was RL I'd not wait for the bridge to close, but just take the other one ::)
- the second but last pictures deserves an award &dance It also makes me think that you emptied your plugins and only have buidling froms VDA and Haarlemmergold left there?
- you made me decide to take the SFBT sideway mod as well, it realy does good the city!
And a question:
Would you mind posting areal picture again, covering the blue area, to compare the differences?

What a renovation! Everything looks even better now, Fledder--and that's a bold statement because Liaane was fantastic before! I can't wait to see more!
That's a wonderful update, Fledder! I really like those overview shots too. It gives a much better idea of what Lianne really looks like when you can see how the parts fit together. Looking forward to more. :thumbsup:

Oh well, here is my chance to make up for it. I like the "no on-way arrow" street pic. the uniform building is so riminiscent for that typical mass building of similar houses in the 19th century. and the wijtenbachstraat building is perfect for that use. many complain nowadays that builders build entire streets at the same time. but many streets or blocks from the 19th century were made in the same way. only with slight alterations in the facades. great job on that one :thumbsup:

i know in 100 years everybody wants to live in the mordern houses from this age..but i truly love those old 18th/19th century houses...they breath history and life and it looks like every house has a story to tell!! I don't try to recreate rotterdam as it should be

Another great update. I would really appreciate the info on your GLR and how many passengers you have. I want to see if I am doing as well as others. I have about 13000 passengers on the GLR now in a city of 28000 sims. &mmm

well i looked it up for you
the average usage is between 300 and 600 comuters per station...BUT...yes there i always a butt
this is only in the new part of Liaane ( the part i am renovating).
In the old part i forgot to connect the stations with the Elovated rail track..so the trams disapear when tey hit the station and only have a comute of about 50 people.
I would love to have 13000 people on the GLR! LOL

I too am sorry I haven't commented in a while, but believe me, I have been popping in to look around and it all looks great. I am expecting something spectacular (or rather more spectacular) now that the new NAM with its GLR delights has been released. The restaurant on the pond and your warehouse apartments from the most recent update are really well done and a pleasure to look at. Were the apts. plopped, or grown? Either way it looks great.

RL is soaking up more time than I am used to so I only follow the MD's that are close to my heart among which Liaane. Why, because it is a town as I always envisioned to build myself.
I can see I even missed quite some great downloads such as the canal pieces and the new "Restaurant" and canal fountains. Do you have a linkie for me?
I realy love that week market. it's so Dutch you know.
I also wonder when a corpse might float up in that new pond that is build on the spot where the graveyard used to be (yeah I have a sick mind).

Wow!!!!.....Super update and so many mosaics. Awesome work. I really like when people make mosaics, it gives the viewer and better perspective over the standard pictures. You usually can see how things start and end, in general just a better view on how everything is put together.

Since it is fresh in my mind, let me start with the mosaics which I can only think to describe as splendidly long. I kept expecting them to end, but much to my delight (and surprise) they kept going. The 4-way glr-road intersection looks like it would be interesting (to say the least) to get through, but it looks great. However, I do have one comment regarding the track just above the tram depot at the end of the last mosaic (I know... me giving the glr master suggestions he he): it looks like it could be improved from its existing s-curves to a section of diagonal track to minimize the forces on the riders (unless that's what it was designed for). A quick question if I may: what is the bridge on the canal in the 4th pic in the top left corner/where did it come from? The new area (Dierwijk) looks pretty good, however, I am curious to know where the animals are while the new zoo is constructed. One last question and I'll quit pestering you (for now): what exactly is the HFSGOL? Or rather, what does it stand for? (it looks like I'll be able to see it in the next update so I'll find out what it is then). Well done as usual.

Ah how lovely Liaane has developped to.
Burying people with iron boots on? Strange customs you have in Liaane. Wonder what the story of that tradition may be. My mind is starting to wander off to a forlorn time when supersticion was commonsense.
The Zoo is well replaced, great shops!
That Rent R us head office is well placed, just one large building there is very realistic, especially considering the colourfull " new" housing project next to it.
I just love the mosaics, they show some great buildings I especially like that corner building in the street with the police station, the one with the little ball on top of it. Very well placed (or did it grow?).
That Park-a-Lot is also a very nice lot. Never noticed it anywhere before. The churches are so Dutch that it is aching. I especially like the housing very near to the cathedral, that's realy like Holland. Great stuff

the s curve is put there on purpose...when a tram goes by the people will be smacked against the windows...just to wake them up!! :)

Place of infinity is a huge square in Liaane. Every year the biggest Cristmas markets and shows are held here.
groups of carrolers, cristmast trees and santa make this square the place to be in December.

Again, suitable words fail me (and yet I continue to write). Liaane looks like a marvelous place to live, and the streets have a very natural look to them (particularly around the Hoek building). One other thing: the Gaumont: for having only five screens, they must be huge to fill a building that size (or rather small and they just fit many people in). Enjoy the trip, 3-4 weeks sounds like a great time. See you when you get back.

And yes the dining room walls are bloodred. and the paintings in their heavily gilded frames depict hunts and battles. for some reason many dinnerguests turn pale when I host a dinnerparty in it. I...I...simply don´t understand it. I think it is the light emanating from the oversized crystal chandelier. perhaps I should get another one.....what do you think...

although the small houses (and typical Liaane houses) dominate the view in East park, New high rise and modern buildings are growing fast.
Many blocks in East park are being demolished because of the bad state the houses are in...we all know that students aren't that keen on upkeep

Liaane-historic city museum is a large building on DEVOTION SQUARE, the museum is full of old paintings,sculptures, old people and things.
This used to be the old Goverment building, but was renovated and turned into a Museum in 1876, when the new Goverment building was ready.

DEVOTION SQUARE is a small square behind the Museum and Libery, but it played a huge role in the history of Liaane.

it was a small line in the Liaane gazet in 1899,a small cry for devotion towards the Royal family.
120.000 people showed up that night (the population was about 130.000 back than) and marched with torches and flags towards the royal palace.
When King Edward the 5th stepped out of the palace the crowd began to sing the National anthem ending with :
"devoted to our great King, devoted to our great nation,devoted we are,hand in hand united we stand"
The next day, king edward the 5th changed the name Butterplein into DEVOTION SQUARE.

Nope, i LOT them myself (the ones with the big tree) and they do nothing (besides looking nice).
some others (the ones with the lightpoles in the cornors) are 1x1 parks I downloaded on the STEX..ages ago.
but to answer your Q: no they are not NAM-pieces....sorry :(

Wow....super update. It took me a while. I had to look at the pictures a couple of times. I wish there were more pics of the train station. I like the tram line and how you laid it out. There must be no high commute times here with transit like that. The city looks very historical. I love the choice of custom BATs.
